Hi, I am currently playing a level 8 sorcerer and I'm thinking of multiclassing as a oracle because our GM said we will get killed off because we are "a group of glass cannons". So I figured why not take the second spell caster of the group and become a oracle instead so at least we'd have a healer then.
So anyways my question is if I take my ninth level use it as a level 1 oracle I gain several spell slots because my current charisma modifier is +9. So if I couple that with the human class bonus which says "Add one spell known from the oracle spell list. This spell must be at least one level below the highest spell level the oracle can cast." does that mean I could take Breath of Life for example since it is a fifth level spell and I can technically cast a ninth level spell?
I got that off of the d20pfsrd site for Oracle.

Well, for one you can't cast 9th level spells on level 9.
Second, as Seranov said your classes are seperate, you DON'T have any oracle spell slots besides the level 1 (and 0) ones.Edit: And the bonus slots for high ability scores only come into play once you can cast spells of that level.
Okay but what about the metamagic feats which allows me to use the higher spell slots?

You mean Heighten Spell? That doesn't give you access to higher level spell slots; it lets you cast a lower level spell using one of your higher level spell slots (which gives it a higher DC). Or do you mean metamagics in general? Because for those when they adjust the spell level it means that it costs a spell slot of the level it gets raised to in order to cast it. For instance, a first level spell with Silent Spell (+1 to the spell level) would take up a second level spell slot, and if you didn't have access to second level spells you wouldn't be able to cast it.

I mean in general, the way i figured was those extra spell slots that I receive from my high ability score are pretty much only good for using metamagic feats with spells that I CAN cast. So from there I thought applying say maximize spell to a 1st level spell is like casting a 4th level spell since it uses the 4th level slot. So since I have a ninth level slot to use once per day that would be like the ability to cast a ninth level spell and then I could use the class bonus to select a 8th level spell since its one below the max level I can cast.
This may be completely wrong....now it seems

Can you tell us about your sorcerer? (level, attributes, feats, bloodline, school) There are probably better ways to toughen up than multiclassing.
I'm mostly worried about the rest of my party, we have a barbarian fighter rouge monk and me and another sorcerer. So were pretty much just straight damage output. What I do is have mage armor on like all day and cast shield on myself when we get into fights so I don't get hit often even though I'm technically "squishy". :P
So I was just looking for a way to keep everyone else from dying. May be a lost cause...

You cannot cast spells above the level you get from class levels, even if you would normally get bonus spells of that level. So you'd need to be a level 10 Sorcerer to use your 5th level bonus spell slot from having 20 Charisma, for example.
So then I could only use maximize spell on a first level spell and never anything above that?

You could cast Maximized 1st level Sorcerer spells right now, but you cannot cast Maximized 1st level Oracle spells, because you don't have 4th level Oracle spells at all, yet.

Oh man so as a sorcerer I couldn't maximize a second level spell and use my 5th level spell slots?

you don't technically gain those slots until you reach the lvl on the table that says it adds them...and if you multiclass you have to use your lvl separately for each table. If based off your CHA you get 2 extra 1st lvl spell slots for being a lvl 1 oracle then thats all you get until you lvl more as an oracle
