Does anyone in the Guild make Glyphs? They seem in short supply on the Auction House (and kinda pricy, when they do appear...).

Licktoad's now 87, so I guess it's time I picked a few up.

I'm looking for Minor Glyphs of Aspect of the Cheetah, Fetch and Tame Beasts, and Major Glyphs of Endless Wrath, No Escape and Pathfinding.

I imagine that the materials cost a fair bit, which I'll happily dish out (plus extra for time spent) but finding that information online is like pulling teeth...

I remember reference to someone doing Inscription when I was asking advice on professions to take, but I don't know if that character was Horde or Alliance.

If the game keeps my interest (and it's doing well so far) I think I want to pick up the rest of the crafting professions (working Alchemy right now) on future characters to help teach myself the systems, but that's no help right now.

Kevin (Anthahuul) is a scribe. And my rogue Ghostwalk on the Alliance side can make them and post them for pennies on the neutral AH for you.

BTW if you open your Guild pane, then click the Roster tab, click "show offline members" in the lower left, and then in the upper right click the selector over to "professions," it'll show you all the profs, and you can click a prof to see who in the guild has that prof, what their skill is, and even look at their profession book to browse what they can do for ya. :)

Welcome! I'll remind Jodi to check the invite-requests page while she's on today. Unfortunately it can't invite you when you're offline, so we'll need to coordinate a time that you'll be on and can get an invite. OR... do a /who anvil pounders to see if anyone else is on, most people now can invite others to the guild.

Sorry about the second Nexus run, guys. My net got laggy, but I assumed I'd just blinked and lost sight of the wagging bear tail until I caught up and no one moved because the connection gave up the ghost halfway through. :(

Got some great gear from the dungeon quests, though.

Ooh, I did not know that. Thanks!

I suppose I should learn a trade skill, so that I can do stuff for other people...

Random thought;

I laugh and laugh at the concept of 'item level needed to get into instances.'

While I was leveling, dozens of cool items that really benefitted my class sat in my bank, while I was pretty much required to wear a motley collection of cloth and leather, and trinkets that did things that matter not at all to me like 'when hit, +X to parry!' or 'has a chance to summon a little dragon pet that doesn't successfully target anything before it disappears again!,' because the stuff-that-isn't-useful-for-me happens to have the higher item level, and allows me to get into heroic instances.

I was regularly wearing stuff that added to Spirit or Intelligence (stats I don't use) instead of Agility, just because of the higher item level needed to get into dungeons, and even had a nice trinket that added to my Spell Power.

It's just hilarious that the game *requires me to gimp myself* to get into the tougher dungeons.

And, sadly, there was always some other DPSer below me on the damage chart, which made me wonder what sort of random junk that poor schlub was wearing.

At least the Lunar Festival is over, and people aren't waiting for all the Haste procs to go off so that they can spend 10 seconds shooting off fireworks in the middle of a boss fight trying to get some 'shoot off 10 fireworks in 10 seconds' Achievement. :)

Resubbed with Rift a few weeks ago instead. I'm kind of burned off of WoW after playing since release. Good Luck to all involved with the Paizo WoW guild. :)

I have a little ways to go yet, but anybody want to recommend a reasonably lucrative alchemy specialization? (Doesn't have to be ridiculous, but something I could do a round or two of crafting with every day or two and sell at a steady profit.) I know I can only pick one so I want to have a piggy bank if I can manage. My other profession is Herbalism, if it's significant.

From my time playing in WoW, flask spec seemed to be the best money maker, I haven't played since the end of Firelands, so I have no idea if that changed.Wouldn't think it did though.
One thing I will suggest, esp. if you have an alt that is high enough level, is to have 2 crafting professions on your main, and let the alt farm. My Main (hunter) was an Engie/Enchanter and my warrior was a BD/JC, both of whom were fed by my rogue, who was Mining/Herbalism.

Occasionally I get the urge to log onto Cyl and mess around, but then I remember the grind of hardcore raiding, and I slap myself until I forget the notion :)

With herbalism, I'd probably say to go Flask spec. My alchemist is a transmuter, which means every time I transmute gems or use my living steel cooldown I have a small chance of getting a huge payday. If your other profession was miner or jewelcrafter, I'd still say go transmute, but with herbalism, you can go Flask.

My favorite alchemy moneymaker right now is to turn Golden Lotus into Potions of Luck. Those seem to be a steady 20-30g profit each in relatively large numbers.

BTW on the Fishing Charm - it's bind-on-pickup, so you've got to camp the guy that hands it out. He's a ghost-panda north of Halfhill & The Hearthland, and spawns in a little nook next to the river. He vanishes once he gives out the charm, so best to camp him at the server reset.

Everyone's always messing with me. No one ever cleans with me. This is the sole reason for the disarray of my bookshelves, my receding hairline, and the tragic fact that seasons of Mad Men are so short.

So, if we are doing Obsidian Sanctum (25 man) tonight, I just did it Friday (on another server). My roommate and I couldn't two man it, so we conscripted his 11 year old son, and after six wipes got it done.

It's just a tad tougher than the 10 man, obviously. :)

.5 (Optional) In Dalaran, pick up Sartharion must die quest.

1. Clear everything but the miniboss dragons. Cakewalk.

2. Engage Sartharion. Do not cut loose / blow cooldowns, just slow and steady DPS. Save your good stuff. Standing in front of the head of Sartharion subjects you to his occasional breath weapon, which isn't terribly deadly these days, but is still damage you can avoid, and damage avoided is always better than damage taken. Standing behind the dragon opens you to a tail slap that stuns for ~2 seconds, and being stunned is never fun. Standing directly to the sides is best, for people not the tank, except during the lava waves...

3. During the fight, fire elementals called 'lava blazes' will spawn. They are wimpy and non-elite *until* a lava wave passes over them, then they get a buff and do 4x as much damage, and are quite nasty, in groups. Burn them down ASAP, and especially after a lava wave.

4. The lava waves themselves were brutal back at 80, but are no big thang at 90. They do some damage, and, more importantly, buff the lava blazes and debuff you, so that you take more damage from fire and shadow attacks, IIRC. Each wave has breaks in it, generally around the head and tail of the main dragon, which can lead to being breathed upon or stunned if your timing and / or positioning is inopportune.

5. Sartharion calls first miniboss, Tenebron, to aid him. Tenebron isn't terribly interesting. Switch off of Sartharion and burn him to death. Blue swirly circles will appear where the dragons are dropping damage / debuffs. Don't stand in them. :)

6. Sartharion calls second miniboss, Shadron, which, unless we kill Tenebron super-fast and are totally awesome, will mean we have two minibosses, the boss, and probably some loose lava blazes that we haven't killed yet. Shadron will complicate things by summoning four to six Twilight Drake Hatchlings, which are elites and harder to kill than the lava blazes. Murphy being Murphy, there will probably be a lava wave around this time, 'cause things weren't crazy enough... Kill lava blazes. Kill Twilight Drake Hatchlings. Kill Tenebron, if he's still alive. Kill Shadron. Nobody should be doing damage to Sartharion at this point (or even since Tenebron appeared), and if cooldowns have not already been used (like Stampede or Crate of Puppies or Mirror Image or whatever) on Tenebron, now is a good time to dump everything.

7. Sartharion calls final miniboss, Vesperon. Kill everything left standing from previous waves, then turn on Vesperon. Vesperon will create a portal at some point, and Sartharion will become completely invulnerable to damage. Some DPSer needs to click on the portal and enter a twilight phase with two elite dragon/centaur things, who are channeling the spell that is making Sartharion invulnerable. DPSer kills them, Sartharion becomes vulnerable, and, fifteen seconds later, somewhat anticlimactically, Sartharion dies a horrible death, as all remaining firepower is concentrated upon him.

8. There are usually a few lava blazes clinging stubbornly to life after Sartharion dies, and are sometimes hard to see through the ginormous dead dragon cluttering up the screen. Kill them.

9. Loot. Somebody gets shiny new mount.

Designer, RPG Superstar Judge

3. Good to know about that extra damage.

4. Good to know about the debuff (while tanking it I really didn't have time to read my debuff text...).

5. WOW! Okay, didn't know you could kill the drakes after the pull, I assumed they had to live until Sarth died. Now it'll be much easier...

6. Same as 5.

7. I was tanking and didn't use the portal, I don't know if anyone else in our group did, but we managed to kill her. Maybe she loses invulnerability after a time, or I just didn't see someone use the portal.

Good tips, it'll be much easier now, woo!

Titles to be had...

"Of the Nightfall", kill the boss without killing drakes. 10man
"Twilight Vanquisher", same as above but 25 man, both are easy as hell. 10 man was easy even when it was new content.

Which faction are players most active on? Alliance or Horde? I was on the Alliance guild and it was kind of empty.

Andru Watkins wrote:

I picked Horde purely on the recommendation to level a goblin. I have a 50ish druid on Alliance side but I never quite got how to play him so I've left him idle for quite a while. I like what I see of Alliance, where it differs from Horde, though.

My current leveling project is Horde because it made him easier to sugar daddy on my own. Mostly gold, but I've also fed him herbs off my goblin so he can level inscription easier. Alas, that guy too is stalled out. I wanted to level him mostly by dungeons, but I've had incredible bad luck with the dungeon finder. I think for every good group I've had, I've gotten two or three of:

1) Very dysfunctional groups where healers don't heal, tankers don't tank, or DPS go wandering off on their own.

2) Sudden group collapse. Usually the tank or healer quits for no stated reason, even if things have gone well, followed by a DPS or two.

3) Groups I end up joining in progress and have to race across half the dungeon to catch up, often dying several times, in order to hopefully tag the end boss.

So I've been doing endgame content with my goblin, where surprisingly LFR has been mostly good. After sticking through with two trolling tanks to the bitter end, I had enough of the warning signs down that when a troll or just a very incompetent tank (charging blindly into every group and clearly not knowing or "not knowing" what to expect) appeared in my second LFR run last night I bailed on the group.

Once I get the hunter higher up, I might turn him into an Alliance guy. I do want to have something on both sides. But given the late discouragements I've been happier just sticking to my 90.

Right, topic. I'm on most nights, but I think a little earlier than most. Some nights I seem to be the only person, but others I see three or four of us online. Horde dungeon night usually gets that many, sometimes more.

Designer, RPG Superstar Judge

I think there are more people active on the Alliance guild, but they tend to do their own thing (particularly in LFR, Looking For Raid). We may have more midwesterners and east-coasters in the Alliance guild, which spaces out when people are online.

I think there are fewer people active on the Horde guild, but they tend to be more open to grouping up for dungeons or whatever.

Now that my move is done, I hope to "rally the troops" a bit on both sides and get more group activities going.

I started the new 5.3 content last night, it's pretty cool so far!

What spec is your alliance druid? They have so many roles, I've found it's best to pick one role (healer, moonkin, cat, or bear) and stick to that... but have awareness of how the other roles work so you can pinch-hit if need be (frex, if you mainly play as a cat, you should know how your heal spells work just in case the healer dies and you filling in will prevent a wipe).

1) With 8 million players, you're going to run into some dummies. Fortunately, you'll meet some good ones, too. And for the bad ones... the dungeon will be over in half an hour... or you can leave the group and do quests for 15 minutes until you're allowed to queue again.

2) That can happen, too. Could be DCs, could be parents calling them to dinner, could be a bootie call. Fill in the lost role, or (if you're down to 2 or 3, especially if they're all DPS) drop the group and re-queue, it's usually easier and faster to start a fresh group than try to fill 3 roles in a half-finished dungeon.

3) Are they skipping packs of mobs and you're having to run past or through them to get to the main part of the group? Also, normally doesn't it put you where the party leader is?

I started as a bear tank, but didn't like the solo experience and didn't feel confident enough to queue for dungeons as a tank so I switched to pussy cat. Mainly I could never quite get the hang of managing combo points or energy. I could usually kill steadily, but ended most fights bottomed-out on energy and feeling like I was missing something. I've thought about switching to ranged dps, since I mostly know how to play that [citation needed :) ], but I want to learn other ways to play the game eventually.

Yeah, I've had bad groups before back on City of Heroes. It just seems like I get them half or more of the time in leveling.

I had just the opposite expectation, but I defer to your experience and will keep it in mind next time I try.

Usually I get killed by skipped mobs. I don't remember the last time I properly telported to wherever the group leader was, though. Several times I ran through a mostly-empty map trying to find them. I used to think you got deposited at the last completed boss, but I guess my experiences there were just good timing. Or maybe it varies by map?

I leveled Oome to 75 in Wrath as a cat, it plays much like a rogue. Yes, combo points can get tricky. There were (are? I switched to bear with the late-Cata reboot to talents and haven't checked cat stuff since then) some "your enemy is at 20% or less health, here's a free instant attack for extra damage" abilities available for cat form (and rogues, warlocks, and warriors have them, too), and there are prolly some abilities that add extra energy or combo points (IIRC, there was one that adds +2 combo points when you use it right before an attack out of stealth).
The trick for things like that is to build a macro that activates those abilities automatically so you don't have extra buttons to hit. I dunno how familiar you are with macros, but for my rogue I made a macro that would pickpocket the target whenever I sapped or ambushed, and another that casts my +2 combo points spell whenever I ambush.

That said... I leveled my druid Haskell as balance for solo and resto for dungeons (fortunately, the gear is almost the same, just spirit instead of hit for resto mode). Balance is... I guess it's easy, just a little weird in that you're constantly cycling between been in "moon power mode" (where your lunar attacks deal more damage) and "sun power mode" (where your solar attacks deal more damage)... I put all my lunar spells on one side of my main action bar and solar spells on the other so I can just work one side or the other and switch when my focus switches. Resto healing is pretty easy (with a slight shift toward more group heals once you get to the Cata levels). I'd be happy to talk about my specific keyboard and Healbot setup any time you like. :)

I honestly don't know. For the past few months most of my dungeoning has been on the Horde side with a full or nearly-full guild group, so I haven't "zoned in" on an existing party recently enough that I remember.

Hey now, Alliance is always up for group activities! :) Let's go PvP since it's been changed in 5.3, yar?

Frankly, I'm already experiencing LFR burnout, but it's a default thing to do when you sign in - queue up for the option 30 minutes later.

I almost said wipe instead, but that sounded dirty.

I'm a complete macro novice. I used a few back in City of Heroes, but by design that game had very limited macro functionality. (They wanted to prevent botting as much as possible, so nothing like chaining a bunch of attacks together.) I read a guide and tried to set up something on my warlock ages ago, when he was young and full of kajamite, but couldn't get it to work and gave up the effort. My usual play is a combination of WASD movement and number keys to fire powers, with the more situational ones reserved to mouse clicks.

I was talking to Samnell about macros, and here are some of the macros I use:

Target Macro:
If I'm trying to find a particular named mob or a type of mob that drops a rare pattern, I put this on my action bar so I can spam it. And I use the "archery target" icon so it's easy to spot on my action bar.

/tar CREATURENAME

Bandage Macro:
Rather than keeping track of all my separate bandages as I level up First Aid, this macro uses up weaker bandages before getting to the strongest ones, allowing me to more easily clear out my bags when I have "lowbie" bandages left. And I use a blue cross icon for easy spotting on the action bar:

/use wool bandage
/use heavy silk bandage
/use mageweave bandage
/use heavy mageweave bandage
/use heavy runecloth bandage
/use netherweave bandage
/use heavy netherweave bandage
/use frostweave bandage
/use windwool bandage
/use Heavy Windwool Bandage

Farmtracker Macro:
Ever go farming for mats and don't want to keep opening your bags to see exactly how many you have? Frex, if you need 20 motes of harmony so you can craft something with 2 Spirits of Harmony, you might be grinding a while. Put this "macro" on your action bar and you can keep an eye on how many you have without having to open or close your bags.

#show ITEMNAME

Fishing Macro:
I have different fishing poles on my characters, and some have the Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat. This macro equips whatever pole I'm carrying, and the hat if that character has it, and uses the hat's lure on the pole, and casts for a fish, all with one click:

#showtooltip fishing
/equip Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-5000
/equip Seth's Graphite Fishing Pole
/equip Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole
/equip Jeweled Fishing Pole
/equip Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat
/use Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat
/cast fishing

Battleground Warning macro:
If I'm on defense in a battleground and I spot enemies approaching, one click puts warning text in the battleground chat channel and says exactly what part of the BG I'm in. Frex, if I'm in Arathi Basin at the stables, this'll say "-- enemies approaching Stables --" ... faster than typing it.

/script SendChatMessage("--- enemies approaching "..GetSubZoneText().."! ---","BATTLEGROUND")

Repeatable Turn-In macro:
Ever need to do multiple turn-ins to an NPC, like a reputation turn-in? With this macro you can click the NPC, then spam the macro through all the dialogue options instead of having to hunt for exactly the right dialogue and then click "continue" and "complete quest." (If you change the (1) to a (2) or whatever, it'll select the 2nd option presented by the NPC... handy for Scryer or Aldor rep where you can turn in 1 or 10 of something for rep.)

/script SelectGossipAvailableQuest(1)
/script CompleteQuest()
/script GetQuestReward()

Coordinates macro:
I know you can get an addon to put the coords on your map or minimap, but using this macro means you don't have to load another addon for that purpose. Clicking it outputs chat text to your screen (other people can't see it) with your current X and Y coordinates.

/script px,py=GetPlayerMapPosition("player")
/script DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage(format("[ %s ] %i , %i",GetZoneText(),px*100,py*100));

There's a command you can do, I think /whoall Paizonian Horde, which will return online members. Send someone on the list a whisper. I think most of the regulars have invite powers. If one of the characters you see is Oodledoodles or Momorka, it's me.

Used to play religiously until wrath of the lich king came out. The loot die are never in my favor lol. Gave it up and gave my account to some friends. Just bought it again because its on sale for 5 bucks and wondering which side yal mainly play on. Allience or horde?

Alliance is generally more populous, but there are some Horde regulars too.

Are these still fairly active? I've had the game for a good year and a half but never really sat down and put any time into it because I have no one to play with, and now that Warlords is off on the (admittedly distant) horizon I really want to get more involved with the game.
