Maybe. The tech team is hesitant to add more subforums, but perhaps we can find a place for it, depending on activity.

Wow... well ok, I guess i'll make a character on BT

Or a forum full stop anywher? Paizo is the only forum I frequent so it would be convenient for me to have a one-stop-shop. However, and to my annoyance, it would seem the world doesn't actually revolve around me, so any low stress solution for keeping in touch out-of-game is fine by me.

Cheers Sean.

You don't need a forum to have a guild clubhouse.

On facebook we have a group for both guilds combined. ;o) Let me know when you become a member of either guild and we can add you to the facebook group! ;oD Generally, if we have events we put them into the calender on WoW so you can see what's coming up for the guild. Hope that helps!

There are a couple pending guild requests and we will get to them as soon as the people log on, I'll invite them ;o) I put a note in the message of the day for anyone who has the authority to check requests and invite them if they're online so hopefully it wont take too long to get added!

So I have a problem with seeing an empty character slot and having to fill them, then hopping from one character to another as the mood takes me. I know some guilds have an issue with alts, so I guess my question is are there limits to alts?

Damn, now I am going to be tempted to go back to WoW. Damn.

Ah, alt-itis.

As someone who had over a hundred City of Heroes / Villains characters, I salute a fellow sufferer of that condition!

Sigh. I subscribe to that, being under the same curse.

Maybe that's a form of schyzophrenia, with multiple personae...

I don't personally play, but I just emailed a link to this thread to two very good friends who do and who are Paizo enthusiasts. :)

I should be doing homework. Instead I'm logging in to WoW to make a new toon on Borean Tundra.

Dang you Paizo! Why do you have to be fun?!

I LEARNED IT FROM WATCHING YOU!!!

I logged in last night on my priest and immediately saw 2 dailies left undone and remembered why I stopped playing last month. The rep/valor grind this time around really sucked. 80 valor for the first 5 man, etc. I know they added the tokens before I left if you were revered iirc, I used most of them back then so getting exalted wont be that bad.

Still thinking about it though. :)

A very tempting offer and a very nice offer. I like the idea of saying "-50 DKP" to Paizo employees. :) I just wish I had the time, I'm drowning in a sea of personal, work, and other commitments. Having children probably didn't help. lol.

I'll see what I can do in a few months.

Oh mannnn, server transfer incoming?

Sean, do you guys have any class needs at the moment, I have an ample supply of chars :).

Liberty's Edge

I'll look into this a bit myself when I get home. I'm on Moon Guard which is always giving out free transfers off server to other ones so I'll see if BT is on that list. I might finish up my worgen tank over there if they are. 88 so almost at the end unless I just transfer the monk. Thanks for the invite.

Designer, RPG Superstar Judge

Ol' Nejj, on the Alliance side we don't have an active 80+ rogue or warrior.
On the Horde side, our 85+ mains are a druid, hunter, mage, and shaman, so we can use whatever.

To reiterate: I want people to play characters they want to play, not characters they feel they have to play. :)

Dark Archive

I almost forgot to mention this! We do a lot of retro-raiding for achievements, transmog gear, and the new companion pets that they've added. It's A LOT of fun to get to experience the old raids without the stress of dying instantly. Some of them are still kind of hard. Firelands seems crazy. I'd love to get a group of 90's together to blast through Firelands. I absolutely LOVED the molten front dailies and such. Would love to have some closure on that storyline...let Sectumsempra know if you're interested hehe. So, if you like doing that older stuff too or never go to do it, chances are we'd love to do that as a big group even if it's mega easy. It's just sorta fun to do when we're not in the mood to do anything hardcore or stressful. AND what's REALLY awesome about retro-raids/dungeons is that usually any levels can come that meet the requirements. ;o) I've been soloing a lot of the dungeons/raids for companions but AQ isn't possible by myself because of the prince bosses have to be fought separate. So lots of fun stuff!

Has anyone else been working on Pet Battles?

We do that all the time lmao! Sean does it way more than I do LOL! I usually only play alts when my main character is maxed out on the content, which she currently is on MoP stuff. Even professions. So, instead of doing the raids and getting sick of them already I'm sort of hanging on to the legendary questline for later ;o).

I hear so many people complaining about all the dailies in MoP but I absolutely love them and am somewhat sad that I'm exalted with everything. They're such a blast! I will admit though, the Master of the Ways was a little exhausting to get!

That'd be great if BT is on there. If it does end up on there, let people on here know and maybe they can check for it too!!! ;o)

Ballpark it for me....,
What side do you think you will spend the most time on? :)
Horde would be a cheaper transfer for my priest (also maxxed enchanter) since he's still a Goblin. Also have a 90 Resto Druid on horde. My Resto Shammy is the best geared of my toons but alliance.

I bit the bullet and brought my Level 85 Human Warlock (Alchemy-Transmute/Tailoring) over last night. Name's Tormentt, I'll happily make anyone whatever bags they want if you provide mats, and I'll be buying up all the cheap netherweave and filling the guildbank with 16-slot bags for people to use on alts and in their bank tabs.

He's fully Cata Raid-geared, and can jump in to pretty much any old content pretty easily. I'll be leveling him up to 90 so I can get in on Heroics and LFR soon. I'd love to go run through the WotLK dungeon and raid achieves, and I'm still looking for the mounts from OS with 3 drakes up.

I'm also more than willing to boost lowbies through instances now and then, it's fun to pull an entire instance and then burn it all down every once in a while. I've got a 2-seater rocket as well, so I'm not averse to occasional taxi service.

Designer, RPG Superstar Judge

Sunderstone: I'm on both factions every night. We're setting up a scheduled dungeon night for Horde (Mondays) and need to determine a good dungeon night for Alliance (formerly Mondays), but that's just to give us an incentive to do something together on that night for a couple hours. So no matter who you bring over, you'll have people to play with.

Also: Welcome to Marshall and the other people who've joined us in the past few days! :)

If you do still play, are you excited for the 5.2 update where one of the rare mounts is a triceratops?

Dark Archive

They totally should have made Raptors the new playable race, instead of Pandas. Then James could make a Raptor Hunter with a Raptor pet and a Raptor companion riding a Raptor mount. :)

Liberty's Edge

And I imagine the optimal name for such a character would be something like ... Larry?

Larry The Raptor? Nah, something is not clicking here.
Rarry The Raptor?
Larry The Laptor?

George The Raptor! You can't go wrong with George!

For Goblin names, Ripnugget was taken, but Licktoad was available. Woo!

Probably for the best, since my next choices would have been Riptoad or Licknugget...

Liberty's Edge

Oh and for others, no, currently transfers are no longer free off Moon Guard to Borean. Ah well. If they ever open up again I'll hope over and might bring others with me. We've got some raid experience if people WERE interest in that kind of thing one day albeit nothing past 10 mans. 25 mans are just too many people >_<.

Designer, RPG Superstar Judge

You could always create a new character on BT and level it up, gives you time to get to know people. And it really doesn't take that long (Jodi got her BE warrior to level 30 over a weekend, though she had several heirlooms).

Grand Lodge

Looks like its time to do up a new toon.

I did a WoW free trial once years ago but stopped in because I was bored to death of collecting ursine hindquarters and killing twenty wolves to find out only 5 had skin. Plus I didn't know anybody. I think I made it to level 11. I know it's changed since then and this is moderately tempting.

So a couple of questions:
1) How indicative of the whole game is the currently free content?
2) Is any of it especially demanding on the hardware? My machine is five years old now.

Former Hardcore raider here getting back into the game as a casual. I will be playing a Worgen Mage name Malacarth on Borean Tundra.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I only played enough to get a flying mount so that I could explore :)

Also, I liked dismounting high in the sky over Stormwind to litter the streets with my Hordie corpse :)

I might have to dust my Belf 'lock off soon...I haven't played in almost a year, and I do miss playing.

1) The revisions they made to most zones with the Cataclysm expansion has made leveling much, much easier. Jodi and I found ourselves outleveling zones before we finished all the quests in them (i.e., the quests in the zone went "green" for us, meaning they weren't worth as much XP because we had leveled up). And that was before we had heirlooms.*

I've played a LOT of characters, and starting up in 2011 was still fresh and fun because of all the changes they made. They've gotten a lot smarter about designing quest tasks. For example, in the old days they might have sent you to kill 10 kobold sappers, 10 kobold miners, and 10 kobold earth priests (which could be annoying if you're running around needing only 1 sapper to kill and none are spawning), nowadays it's more like "kill 30 kobolds," doesn't matter which type.

You should still be able to start up on a free trial (I think they let you have up to 5 free trial characters) and poke around a bit. Or message me with your email and I can use their website to send you a recruit-a-friend request (which I think gives you some extra benefits for your character during the trial period).

2) My old comp was 7 years old and wouldn't run Cata, but it's a Mac and I don't know how flexible the PC hardware requirements are over the years. Here is a link to their tech requirements.

* At higher levels, you can buy (with currency earned in-game from dungeons, pvp, etc.) gear pieces called heirlooms that you can pass around to any of your characters, gear that's good-quality for your level and levels up with you. Most also include an XP boost so you can get through the old content faster (because you've already played through it once). Jodi had 5 heirlooms on her new warrior character for a +50% XP boost, which allowed her to go from level 1 on Friday night to level 30 by Sunday evening.

Hah, this is kind of amusing. I was a guild master on Borean Tundra for a while during Wrath of the Lich King. As a more hardcore progression raiding guild, though, we found the server fairly poor in terms of recruitment pool. I don't have a clue what the server is like now, but if you wanted to, you could probably manage to push yourselves pretty high up the server raid progression rankings. =P

I may have a character or two left over there... Not really sure. If I do, I might well ask for an invite at some point or another.

Got a Male Human Hunter done up, and put in an add request. Declinmoor

I had some freelance to take care of last night (if I failed to finish it, Adam was given permission to punch me in the stomach and put the video of it on YouTube) so I was barely on long enough to say hi, but I'll be on tonight to invite anyone I've missed. :)

I joined up last night and started a character in both sides. I'm pretty encouraged by many of the changes in place since the last time I really put some time into it.

So is the Horde side the place to be? Because I have been on the Alliance side most evenings and not seen many folks?

Fitz

I tend to prefer the Alliance side, but I agree, Fitz and I seem to be the only ones on a lot of the time. I've got a baby Belf Pally on the Horde side, though, and will want to play him some more, but right now I'm on a mission to get Tormentt to level 90.

Can anyone recommend a good solo-friendly, fairly simple starter race/class combo for each side? I'm not new to MMOs exactly, but I've only played City of Heroes and it was very casual-friendly.

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Especially these days, soloing with any class is pretty easy. Mechanically, race selection doesn't affect your character very much. You might end up with a 1% improvement in DPS, but it's pretty negligible except in guilds that are going for hardcore progression.

Really, don't sweat it -- you can't really go wrong. Pick a class that sounds fun and a race that sounds interesting, and enjoy the story. WoW actually has some pretty interesting lore, if you pay attention to it.

So glad I came across this thread! I've now got a blood elf rogue started out on the server named "Villainous." I'll try to log on during a high-traffic time and get acquainted with you fine folks.

Classically, the friendliest classes are pet classes... Hunter and Warlock especially.

For race, the best ones are:

Panda (choose horde/alliance later)
Goblin (Horde)
Worgen (Alliance)

I pick these because they're the newest and so have really nice 'new style' starter zones.

If you aren't interested in those races, I am a huge fan of the Undead starting zone for Horde, and I'm also fond of the Human start zone. But any of them will work.

This is sound advice.

Warlocks and then Hunters are the two easiest to level, and the most forgiving of a new player, thanks to the pets. Hunters have more of a 'game within the game' going on, thanks to the ability to tame different sorts of critters, but, for the most part, you can't go wrong with a cat as your pet. (Ditch the starting pet for a cat at 10th level, unless you're undead, 'cause the spider's pretty hot.)

For Horde, I would every single time and twice on Sunday recommend playing a starting Goblin just because the first 10-12 levels are friggin' hilarious. Plus you get to name yourself after Paizo goblins or goblin tribes like 'Birdcruncher' or make a hunter with a boar pet and name it 'Squealy Nord' or whatever. (Or go with something more old-school like 'Breeyark.') The Blood Elf starting area is also a 'new-ish' zone, and their city is crazy beautiful, but they don't feel as 'Pathfindery' to me as the goblins.

For Alliance, the Worgen is way more serious and less of a whacky thrillride, but their starting area is the most modern and streamlined of the non Pandaran starting areas, in my experience. The Draenei newbie zone isn't bad, either, and the female Draenei in particular have some fun appearance options, if you're like me and can spend an hour in the City of Heroes character generator trying out looks instead of actually playing the game...

Liberty's Edge

To add to hunters, things have changed a bit recently. Pets have the same simplistic style that characters got with Pandaria where now you just pick WHAT role you want them to do and that's it. No more stat points to allocate for them and it's amazing. Leveling wise, I haven't given too much time with the warlock but found the hunter very fast. No mana is always a plus to me and most every ability (along with the warlock now I guess) can be cast WHILE moving at the very start (only marksman has an ability that you have to glyph to make this possible).

Also as a hunter if you pick up the glyph at 25, you will have a permanent ability to dump ALL your hate to your pet 24/7 instead of a 15 second cooldown. Once you hit level 30 (I think) you can pick the ability to let you regen 2% of your health every 2 seconds. This might seem like a minor amount but what this DOES is make it so you NEVER have to stop to refresh your life. It just does it naturally for you at an easy rate.

Honestly, I loved my Hunter. I'm acting like a spokesman for the class BECAUSE it was fun. One of the BEST and WORST things the Hunter offers though is it's pet. It's NOT just for you. It can pretty much bring ANY important group/raid buff you're missing if you grab the right pet for the job. This is amazing!

And now the CONS.

The first one is a personal con of mine as I get obsessive to catch that ONE rare pet or whatever. This leads to hours of camping or farming a spot in hopes the rare pet spawns to try and tame while also trying to do this with other Hunters usually trying to do the same thing. It sucks ... but eh.

Another big CON is there ARE some raid/dungeon fights where pathing is an issue and your pet goes nuts. BEST case scenario, he despawns and you summon him again (which still is annoying, especially in a middle of a fight as you sometimes don't REALIZE for some time he's not up) or the worse case scenario is he DOESN'T despawn and is taking a super long backwards one of getting to said location.

All that said, Hunter = awesome (and with the way transmog is setup for them as well, they are the only class that can transmog weapons not of the same type right now which is another fancy term for Appearance Item. So as a hunter you can be wielding a gun but make it look like a bow, or the opposite).

After being distracted by A Memory of Light I finally put some time in. Thanks for recommending goblin, guys. The quests have gone very smoothly and once I figured out how to use the map I even stopped getting lost trying to remember the way back to the contacts.

And, um, I killed a giant shark with a mecha-shark with a frickin' laser on its head. Didn't love sitting behind a trio of NPCs and killing 100 respawning plants with my warlock (8th level now), but that and getting lost a lot were the only downsides so far. Might have to cough up $15 a month.

Many quests will give you an item of sorts, that you can click to change the conditions of an encounter, such as a 'shrink ray' that reduces a powerful monster into something easier to kill.

As a warlock, you will *often* totally miss such things, and 'accidentally' murderdeathkill the epic mob you were supposed to shrink or web or otherwise reduce to a more killable level first, and not realize that you just did the impossible, again. (Happened to me all the time.)

For the 100 plants encounter, you were supposed to click such an item in your inventory and a giant sword would equip and you'd start spinning like a crazy weed-whacker, and then buzz through the swarm of plants killing a dozen a second or whatever. Much faster and kind of fun.

Keep your bags open on the side, and it's easier to see when a new quest item like the 'weed-whacker' appears, if you find reading all the quest dialogue a waste of time (even when I promise myself I'm going to pay attention, I so rarely do...).
