Shouldn't it be safe to say that if the author misspelled the title of their own item that an RPG Superstar win is not in the cards for this year?

Dude, you're a little more cruel than I expected.

I have a feeling Paizo (i.e., Gary and Ross and Vic) will likely tweak the voting method a bit in the future. But, for now, it's important to ride this out and see how it goes first.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Oh, I wouldn't give up this experience despite its flaws and I fully expect that there will be lessons learned for next year. Its the first time with a whole new process, there are bound to be things we figure out together.

I am voting voluntarily and will continue to do so, whether from a sense of duty, self-edification or masochism I'm not sure.

Its just that the misspelled title caused me physical pain and I had to share. It wasn't even a big word...

EDIT: I'm sure the judges are enjoying watching us all squirm, knowing that we truly grok your pain now.

Didn't he die to a poison needle trap, before Fred the Dwarf looted his corpse?

(yes, I am that old.)

I am worried that this year's experience will do little to ease the judges' pain next year. I expect lots of the submissions to come from people who will be new to Super Star. Large part of the rest of submissions will come from people who didn't read this section of the forums anyway.

I honestly feel sorry for the judges for submitting bad items in the past two times I entered.*

Oh, wait.** :P

Spoiler:
Items, no. I still read the comments on my round 2 entry in 09 whenever I feel the need for more humility

Spoiler:
and I'll be the first to say the bracelet of shields wouldn't have survived the past couple years.

Wasn't the last covered in great detail, by the Magic Item Compendium, for late D&D 3.5?

I didn't want to go all maximized and mythic, because I don't actually want anyone to take that way out. Just rough them up a bit before I push them back into the voting line. ;-)

I wouldn't worry Neil, over the past few years, a few of us regulars, having taking daily runic doses have now become immune, so there will always be some voters :)

I've encountered at least one item whose name was misspelled. (I won't be more specific about the number and nature of the various errors I've seen in item names so far.) In at least one case, I gave the contestant the benefit of the doubt, assumed the contestant had dyslexia, and read the item anyway.

Not really sure about this. If they misspelled it once, I could chalk it up to a typo. If they misspell it throughout their item's description, in the header and the body, I would certainly be concerned.

One typo won't disqualify an item for me, especially if the item is cool, follows the format, doesn't have run on sentences, etc. I mean, even Paizo's great products have typos in them.

One typo might help me make a decision about which item is better between two cool, well formatted items, however.

Spoiler:
Shouldn't it be "a win", not "an win"? :P

Indeed you are correct sir. The virtual keyboard/autocomplete on my tablet is unforgiving. Sometimes I am lazy about correcting when I post. But not on my item!

Actually, both of the first two pages on my google-fu lookup say you were correct. It's the word after a/an which determines which you use. Since you used an abbreviation with a vowel sound, "an" was correct. Darn, can't correctly remember any lesson I learned back in the days before my hair turned grey and/or fell out.

I'm hoping you meant "entries." Otherwise, you're eating way too much as you vote. ;-)
