The TEO meetings don't work for me I'm afraid. 1800 PST is 0200 GMT, and that rules out my participation.

From my standpoint, it will depend on the topic and it will depend on whether or not the point will serve me better ICC or OOC.

I concur with this. If we are discussing mechanics and such, then there is no feesable way to do that IC, but if we are just discussing things that can be done IC, then why not. Obviously not everyone wants or is good at RP (especially impromptu as this would be) so it shouldn't be required to be IC. Just my thoughts.

Goblin Squad Member

Then i would like to ask that if there are discussion in character that is is pointed out because I have no interest in RP and do not appreciate if it is forced on me.

Provided I make it to the meeting because of similar problems as Sadurian mentioned.

There is a difference between Role playing and speaking from the character's perspective.

There is the difference between the interests of a particular role, and the player's interest in playing a role.

These are sometimes so nuanced that even the speaker / writer may not know he/she has transitioned from one to the other.

As for "not wanting to be forced to RP", you do not have to. Judge each comment made on how you wish to interpret it. Whether its ICC or OOC should make no difference in your opinion.

Hopefully the conversations will remain civil in both ICC and OOC. Hopefully, everyone also will be wearing their moderately thick skin and or their "Big Boy Pants".

Goblin Squad Member

I'm sorry but if you are IC you are roleplaying. Also it's incredibly irritating if it's not clear if one is talking to the player or the character.

Goblin Squad Member

I would suggest we avoid IC conversation. It only becomes confusing. Speaking of topics from a character perspective is alright, but do not speak as your character. We do not want to have to decipher whether someone is a jerk in character (a likely scenario with so many evil characters lined up) or if they are just like that in real life (hopefully less likely).

Goblinworks Executive Founder

There's a very small difference between e.g. Someone discussing his opinion and intentions and policies in-character versus out-of-character.

It's possible for the character to have a discussion with a player, even.

Goblin Squad Member

If it is your own character chatting to you and it happens regularly, you may want to seek therapy.

Goblin Squad Member

That very small difference is what can make it so confusing. Whether it is IC or OOC makes A LOT of difference. It makes the difference between considering someone a decent writer/actor versus considering them a disturbed individual. And we do not need to be losing meeting time jumping between two states and trying to sort out which statements should be judged in which ways.

Goblin Squad Member

I would welcome IC discussion before and after the meeting, however. The idea is to simply keep business as brief as possible, as it will be extremely late (or early) for various members due to our broad assortment of time zones. We wish to be respectful of their time.

Goblin Squad Member

Thank you. The clarity is appreciated.

Goblin Squad Member

My (player) view on the meeting IC vs OOC is simply this. Actually bludd already said it. I (Player) intend to attend this meeting (work willing) as a Player but using my IC thought process. Meaning I intend to play a bandit/assassin IC so I do want to ensure they (Bad guys) get a fair shake and are represented properly. Me (player) consider myself a fairly kind and forgiving person and would never consider doing anything, or desiring anything that my IC character would want. I (player) fully support sharing and fairness, exterminating all bandits and assassins because I don't think that is an appropriate avenue of acquiring wealth. IC, it is the ONLY way to acquire wealth.

The point I am getting at is that I will not be talking or saying this as IC professional assassin would. I will be discussing as a player to other players, but keeping the IC best interests in mind. I hope that clears it a bit better.

I would never force someone not wanting or desiring RP into an RP. Just saying, I find that to not be enjoyable for either party and that is what we are all here to do, have fun.

Goblin Squad Member

That is perfectly within reason, Milo. Andius will actually have final say. Just trying to influence towards efficiency.

There was. I was helping chaperone a group of kids who went to a youth conference in Indiana. It had me very busy for awhile and I didn't realize you had sent another PM. I'll try to read over your PMs and this topic and have a response within 48 hours.

Where are you from? and where to in Indiana? I live in Indiana which is why I ask.

I'm from Alaska and the conference was at Purdue University.

On the subject of the OOC/IC staus of the meeting, generally all of our voice communications are considered OOC unless otherwise specified. The topic we really wish to discuss with UNC heavily involves game mechanics and the meta-game, so I feel it would be easiest to keep everything OOC.

Tigari wrote:
Where is this meeting being held at, I may try to show up and represent The Bloody Hand

I would be glad to see you there. Just a forewarning though, the first part of the meeting will be a lot of internal TEO politics. It's not really top secret, but I'm not sure it's anything you'll find very thrilling, and our meetings run on a fairly rigid structure (One person allowed to talk at a time with a moderator deciding who that is.)

If you want to hang out in another channel or Teamspeak we can send someone for you once we reach the topic of Stand and Deliver and loot dropping.

Goblin Squad Member

Well, as I said, the IC isn't so much RPing during this meeting, it is more meant as a "talking from my character's perspective" type of IC. I hope to be there to support why I want in-game mechanics and opportunities for my "bad guy" character. That is coming from a IC mentality. Ultimately, all we from the UNC want is balance. We should not be gimped for playing the bad guys and if you read our various posts you will see that. We don't want to be all powerful either BTW. Hopefully this same message will come across at the meeting.

Goblin Squad Member

It is fully understood that you will be discussing from the perspective of how you wish to play. We encourage that and it is why the invite was opened. But keeping the discussion OOC as players is meant to promote speed and efficiency of conversation, as well as to promote professionalism.

I think that we are all okay from a, and I quote, "Big Boy Pants" perspective. But if it comes to that point that we feel we need them, then communication is breaking down and failing. I can imagine a deal of adult language being thrown around between adults and I hope we are mature enough to not get offended or break down giggling if someone uses 'swear words' or references human anatomy.

We should not tolerate insults being levied at each other. Thick skin should only relate to the discussion of ideas. Some folks get upset if their pet idea is disagreed with, and we need people to be able to accept and move on. But name-calling, antagonizing, or provoking others should be avoided. This behavior would be expected at an IC meeting between many of our characters, but it should not be expected at an OOC meta-game discussion.

TLDR; Speak OOCly about how you wish to be able to play your character. Please maintain a degree of professionalism during the meeting. There will be ample opportunity for screwing off both before and after the meeting. We won't mind that at all.

Goblin Squad Member

I think the OOC is more needed for us than for you. IC if you are robbing anyone other than evil people without some good justification I disapprove. IC any method people can use to avoid being robbed is fine with me.

OOC I see the need for bandits, and not just ones that rob evil players. OOC, I think exploiting mechanics to rob you of loot, or keep you from issueing a SAD is poor sportsmanship

IC Andius wants world peace and to see all evil and strife wiped from the world. OOC Andius wants to see violence and strife that promote meaningful player interaction.

IC Andius has no reason to cooperate you unless it serves the greater good. OOC Andius can see how bandits are healthy for the game.

I know there are several people I invited to speak with me on Teamspeak today.

I'm probably going to slip away for lunch in a few hours but I should be here a substantial amount of the day.

Quote:

In order to setup up the Teamspeak you will need to:

1. Download Teamspeak 3.
2. Create a bookmark for: 216.52.148.11:4450
- Label the server: The Empyrean Order
- Nickname yourself with the name you intend to use for your in-game character.
- No password is required at this time, but you will need an admin to set you up to access most channels.
3. Once in a channel, if you need help configuring your sound feel free to use the text chat at the bottom of the Teamspeak.

Goblin Squad Member

@Andius, if you're going to be on later tonight, there's a chance I'll be able to get on then.

Grand Lodge Goblin Squad Member

Recruitment is still open for anyone interested in joining The Empyrean Order (TEO). Just pop by our website at theempyrean.org (or google search for The Empyrean Order) and see what we can offer you (and hopefully what you can offer us). We have many wonderful members, strong leadership and a growing community.

We are always looking for some like-minded, community oriented members.

Regards;

Brax the Sage, the Frozen Prophet.

Goblin Squad Member

@Andius, the wife will probably be spending most of the day studying. I'd like to chat with you if you're going to be on TS.

Goblin Squad Member

TEO Members: If you have not already done so, I would like to invite you to visit our forum and register. If you have already registered, please check that you have access to the The Empyrean section as opposed to just public.

We have a significant number of users that have registered an account, but have never filled in a Registration post for either Membership nor Ambassador access.

Forum activity is not required at this time, but we would like to make sure that everyone is aware (remembers) that we do have one, that discussions do occur there, and to make sure you are not missing out on opportunities to better know your comrades during the march to Early Enrollment (or Open, if you intend to join the game later).

http://www.theempyrean.org/teboards/index.php

Also, as Brax has mentioned, we are indeed still recruiting! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask here, on our forums, or through private message.

Thank you for flying Empyrean Airlines... wait, wrong game!

We never stop. Every time we appear to be getting full I just spawn more overlords.

Goblin Squad Member

TEO Members: We've got a new Minecraft server running. I believe it currently supports 15 concurrent users. Details on the TEO forum.

Goblin Squad Member

I'd like to welcome our newest member Jonkar Sebatine.

I'd also like to call attention to our newly formed Steam group. More details about that are available to TEO members here.

Joining that group is a great way to stay connected to other Empyrean members as we wait for the release of PFO.

Goblin Squad Member

Valinar is preparing to set up a Terraria server for members. It's a good game if you want something a little more action-oriented and faster paced than minecraft.

Goblin Squad Member

I will be looking at getting Terraria up and running again tonight!!

Yes right now we can support 15 players on our Minecraft server... This is coming out of my pocket monthly so if we need to upgrade I may need to ask for a couple dollars a month donation from those that are playing. We can do this through paypal if and when we decided it is time for more slots, bandwidth, and memory.

That being said I can tell you Lifedragn and I have started to clear and flatten a nice chunk of land to make TEO's base of operations. If you log in and head South you will eventually see a tall beacon that will show you the way. Right now there is not structures but that is going to be changing very soon. I am working up a layout and hope to have the first couple of buildings up in the next couple of days.

Hope to see you on!

Or if you prefer, Alexander Damocles began mining down near the starting outpost and has opened a number of tunnels into chasms. So if you find clearing land and planning out a village to be monotonous, feel free to go delving!

Exploration is also an option. We've not yet located an NPC village, for example.

UO was my second MMO, most folks have not heard of The 4th Coming which was my first, and held a very sandbox-style approach. Not everyone has played it, and those who have may not have touched it for a while.

I found this somewhat recent article. I would suggest my fellow TEO members give it a read. It mentions some of the ups and downs of various additions and how it affected the overall feel of the game. These can be some useful notes to keep in mind as we are asking for features and modifications during the crowd-forging period.

http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/06/28/second-wind-ultima-online/

Additionally, the notes about guild chats are something to keep in mind. We foster strength within the guild, but we need to remember to engage those around us in the game as well. We should be aware of such community pitfalls. We should be willing to interact socially with other players even if there is no events running, player-driven or mechanical.

Goblin Squad Member

UO was my first MMO after playing MUDs for a few years. I played until the Renaissance expansion and left before the whole PvP exodus really happened.

I'm actually quite sad to hear about the 'eerily silent' towns and lack of chat, and over the powercreep/gear treadmill that has appeared. The chatter and the wearing of basic crafted gear was one of the appeals to me really. Make some friends, craft some gear, get out and about and have a good time doing it.

I'm hopeful that PFO will address the missing second M in online games. and push players towards interacting with one another, and indeed forcing it if a successful settlement is the players end game.

For an update, we're currently running a Minecraft server and restarted the Terraria server for our community (big thanks to Valinar), not to mention our presence in several other games including Eve. Currently looking into Wildstar and some other games in addition for the future.

While the wait for PFO continues, we're definitely staying active and always looking for more members with a righteous spirit to join us!

Greetings to the incomparable The Empyrean Order,

I'm going to reach out to you guys with a consideration: Crowdforging: A Confederation of Communities

I'd be most grateful if The-Empyrean-Order could have a look through this early draft and have a think about it's possible merits and where it might align with your goals and aspirations.

Please feel free to post in that thread, at any time, if you feel there is something serious to consider here.

Respectfully, AO.

Goblin Squad Member

If any White Staff / Seraphic Commission members are active here but not on our forums, please go check up on our forums. We have renewed discussion of leadership and purpose in this sub-guild and I would like to be sure that our primary members have the ability to provide their thoughts, if any.

Thanks!

TEO has been running a similar program as well. Our program is intended to allow chartered companies and settlements under our protection a high degree of freedom. Beyond that, our ties to TSV allow us to really offer variety. You want to tie yourself to a neutral good group with a powerful military and champions? Charter with TEO. You want to join a true neutral group with a focus on knowledge and learning? Charter with TSV. You want to run your own settlement, according to your own rules? Settle nearby us and sign a mutual defense pact.

Either way you enjoy our protection, can charter groups with us to train in our facilities, and will not be required to take part in any non-defensive conflicts of ours.

We do however, only offer this to non-RPK groups, and to charter with TEO you need to be good or neutral. Chaotic forces are welcome though, and TSV may not have the same restrictions as us.

If anyone is interested PM me or register as an ambassador on our forums.

Added since it is relevant and we're always looking for allies and chartered companies to sponsor ready to fight the good fight (or scholars, merchants, mercenaries, crafters, and more).

On meeting times:

Though we have a number of non-North American users our majority of users as well as the leadership does reside there. The meetings we have tend to be small already, as many folks understandably await EE to draw closer. My question is this...

How many non-NA members would like to attend a meeting focused on summarizing and continuing discussions from prior meetings?

Or, would you favor a more social event where a lot of us North Americans try to get on and do some mingling at a time more convenient to Europe? Did we have any Australia folk? I know they very often get the short end of the gaming stick...

Goblin Squad Member

Also, if anyone that signed up as a primary of Azure Astra Arcanum (The Blue Stars / Scholarly Faction) is about. Could you please speak up here? Wanting to see if the faction still has any pre-EE folks active or if everyone is waiting for the game to come next year. No problem with the latter, but it would be nice to have some representation from that angle of interest.

Goblin Squad Member

If time permits I would be very thankful for meetings or activities that are timezone friendly for me :)

Goblin Squad Member

We shall see what we can arrange.

What are your typical time availabilities? Please provide in GMT/UTC. It may be the software engineer in me, but I would like to get everyone used to that time zone for organizing, if possible.

Goblin Squad Member

I would actually really like to do a European timezone. On one of my days off it isn't that hard for me to drink a bunch of Mountain Dew and either stay up until, or get up, at some obscene hour of the night/morning.

The only thing holding me back is I wonder how productive we can be at a meeting that many of our US based players will miss. I don't want to give the European players their own meeting and not be able to accomplish anything at it. If enough US based players give a "I will drink Mountain Dew and go to the meeting if at all possible!" statement, I'll start searching for a date and set one up.

To US based players, our euro-buddies do it for us all the time. So lets do for them for a change ok?

Timezone: UTC+2 which is 6 hours ahead of NYC-time

I don´t have usual gaming hours as i work shifts.
-when i work late shifts i usualy start between 10pm & 12pm and say goodnight around 2 or 3 am and possibly again from 10-12am.

-early shifts are a matter of negotiation;)

I recently mischaracterized a settlement's plans, but I wanted to have it confirmed or denied an question about alignment access and TEO's national / kingdom aspirations.

Will your primary settlement or any settlements within your future Kingdom provide access and training facilities for Chaotic or Evil skills / professions?

More specifically can rogues get rogue training and or assassins get their training?

Goblin Squad Member

I find it revealing that you mischaracterized my position, and by implication The Seventh Veil's position, yet you come to TEO's thread to ask for clarification.

You have repeatedly tried to paint a picture that is simply not true, and I hope Andius simply refuses - as I will - to engage you about any of our plans, separately or together.

I have no doubt that you would use whatever was said in that regard to further misrepresent us, since that has been your consistent behavior so far.

I just want to clarify if TEO will in fact provide access or training for chaotic and or evil aligned characters, or they have no intentions of not offering such access. This is an important question to be answered by one of the land rush settlements. There are many chaotic and evil PCs who would benefit from knowing what settlements might support them.

I'll wait to speak to Andius on the subject or for him to post something here, since he is the only one who could say for certain.

So, your would have us believe that your desire to "have it confirmed or denied" was unrelated to the fact that you "recently mischaracterized a settlement's plans"?

Goblin Squad Member

TEO primary settlements will most likely not cater to Evil skills. Should we reach a point of nation-building, it may be that some Neutral settlements join that have access to such. I am not sure what our policy will be on that yet.

As a Neutral Good aligned organization, we will probably have our share of both Chaotic and Lawful skill trainers though they may not offer max-level training as we do not focus on Law or Chaos (a personal speculation on how settlement alignment might affect the quality of trainers).

You stated that your plans were to have your own settlement, Shadow Haven. I take your word that its goal of being NE is still intact.

My question is now to TEO, if they have any plans of granting access and training to Chaotic or Evil characters. I mischaracterized your intentions, I did not want to do the same with them, so I asked THEM, what their intentions are?

The question no longer has anything to do with you or TSV, I accept your stated intentions.

With Settlement Acheron out of play, Chaotics and or Evils are or will be shopping for settlements.
