Name: The Empyrean Order
Alignment: Neutral Good
Preferred Alignments: LG/NG/CG
Role: Player Nation with a Guardian/Peacekeeper focus.
Player Roles Accepted: All
Website: theempyrean.org

Idealogy: The Empyrean Order believes that just because you can do something in a game, that doesn't necessarily mean you should. To that end, we want Pathfinder Online to have a community where -- even though Open World PVP is enabled -- random Player Killers are a fringe element rather than mainstream, and griefers are nearly non-existent. We believe in helping new players, reaching out to the rest of the community, and generally making Pathfinder Online a better world for people to enjoy together.

Who Should Join TEO?: Everyone who agrees with the above ideology and wants to be a part of an organization that puts it into action. Beyond our military and militia, we have five guilds: one focused on combat training and creating combat events, one focused on helping people and community outreach, one focused on scouting and exploration, one focused on crafting and trade, and one focused on knowledge and study.

We cater to every playstyle; from people wanting to be part of an elite military to pacifists; from people looking for a heavy role-play experience to those who'd prefer to avoid it; from Americans and Europeans to Australians and more. We are one of the largest organizations in the Pathfinder Online community, and we make use of the talents of our members to create an environment which allows for many styles of play.

Our Rules:

1. No Random Player Killing. One of the main ways we distinguish ourselves is by only killing when we have good reason to do so. More details on what constitutes good reason will be given as we get more details on the game, but for the most part this constitutes enemies of The Empyrean Order and those who are a threat to the general public.

2. Do not make agreements you do not intend to keep. Nobody in The Empyrean order will demand you make promises or enter into contracts, but if you do, then you should honour your word.

3. Respect other members of our order, and try to respect those outside of it as well. I know this rule is very difficult and can rarely be followed perfectly, but know where to draw the line, especially in a public setting. This one will be enforced the hardest on inter-guild drama, any rivalry between members should be friendly.

Joining The Empyrean Order:

1. Go to the Pathfinder Registration section of our forums.
2. Register an account on our forums using the name you plan to use for your main character.
3. Once your forum account is approved, log in and follow the instructions found in "How to Register for Admission."
4. An admin will approve your TEO membership if you are accepted.

Teamspeak Usage: The Empyrean has a dedicated 24/7 Teamspeak 3 server. Teamspeak usage is a requirement for all members, but a microphone is not required unless you are part of the military. This is because Teamspeak is where most of our conversations happen, and if you aren't in there, you really will not get integrated into the community as much as we would like. Teamspeak does offer text chat options and if everyone in-game is using the Teamspeak then you can likely reply to comments on the Teamspeak via our in-game chat as well.

In order to setup up the Teamspeak you will need to:

1. Download Teamspeak 3.
2. Create a bookmark for: 216.52.148.11:4450
- Label the server: The Empyrean Order
- Nickname yourself with the name you intend to use for your in-game character.
- No password is required at this time, but you will need an admin to set you up to access most channels.
3. Once in a channel, if you need help configuring your sound feel free to use the text chat at the bottom of the Teamspeak.

Meetings:

We have regular meetings on our Teamspeak channel, so we can get to know one another and everyone gets a chance to discuss our decisions and the direction we're going. Information on these meetings can be found here.

Ranking Structure Overview:

This is a very basic overview of the ranking of The Empyrean Order. More specific details are still being debated, and will be sorted out as the game draws closer to release. Right now, we know we want to divide ranks into a few categories: political ranks, military ranks, and guild ranks.

Political Ranks: These ranks are the ranks which make decisions about our structure, how we are run, diplomatic relations, etc. Currently, there are two established political ranks: The Grand Master and the Council.

The Grand Master is the highest rank within our order. They are a member of the council and have the right to make major decisions without consulting the council first if they feel a quick decision is needed, or that the issue is not major enough to require a council vote. They are held in check by the fact that they can be removed from office by a two-thirds council majority, and that they cannot remove council members from their office.

Council Member is the other political rank. The council is a group of individuals which have the final say on all major issues concerning The Empyrean Order. Council Members can only be instated or removed by a two-thirds majority vote of the current council.

The Military and Militia: The military is the elite fighting force of The Empyrean Order. Their sole focus is PVP; promoting The Empyrean Order's causes, keeping it secure, and enforcing its will. Tryouts based on your skill as a warrior and ability to function as part of a group will be required to join. It will likely have uniforms, and promotion will be based upon leadership ability. Members of the military are expected to constantly be bettering themselves, because they represent the strength of The Empyrean Order.

The militia is a group for more casual or less combat-focused characters who wish to take part in battles, especially when our homes and assets are directly threatened. Training courses will be offered but the militia is generally meant not to intrude on its members regular activities unless they wish it to, or we are in dire need of their help.

The Guilds: The Guilds are far more PVE and knowledge/training focused than the Military. There are five guilds specializing in five different areas. Players may only choose one guild as their primary guild, but they may join as many as they like in a secondary capacity. Periodically, guild masters will be elected by the primary members of each guild. Guild masters work with the members of their guild to organize their guild and its events in the way that helps them most efficiently fulfill its duties. Each guild is responsible for building its own internal ranking structure. The guilds are as follows:

The Argent Guard: A group for organizing combat training and events.
The Explorer's League: A group for scouting, prospecting, and exploration.
The Seraphic Commission: A group for diplomatic relations and community outreach.
The Azure Astra Arcanum: A group focused on knowledge, learning, and magical assistance.
The Golden Scales Trade Guild: A group focused on crafting, trading, and economics.

Medals And Rewards: In addition to ranks, expect to see medals, titles and other rewards in recognition of accomplishments. For instance, we intend to grant Knighthood to those who distinguish themselves in battle, and hold a periodic tournament comprised of several events to determine a champion of The Empyrean Order. There will also be awards for non-military accomplishments, or even meta-game accomplishments such as devoting time and talent to our technical and art assets.

Joining us as a Company or Settlement

As a player run kingdom we are not only recruiting players but also companies and settlements. As a company or settlement considering our kingdom, you need to understand that should you join us your actions will effect how TEO is perceived. Because of this, we expect you would adhere to many of our more basic rules of conduct such as no RPKing. For a company already adhering to these kinds of practices you will enjoy few limitations and a lot of freedom. You will also gain:

•The military backing of one of PFO's largest organizations.
•Access to our top-of-the-line training programs.
•The ability to headquarter yourselves in TEO-controlled settlements and hexes.
•Political representation within a large and powerful player nation.
•The pride of taking part in taking part in our movement and championing our ideals.

If you are interested, please register as an ambassador on our forums. From there we can schedule a meeting between our leaders to make sure both sides understand clearly what they are being offered and what is expected of them.

Goblin Squad Member

Andius, I've replaced the old GL post with this one in the Guild Recruitment & Helpful Links list.

The Keepers of the Circle would like to welcome you to Golarion (except I think you beat us here? :P) and extend the hand of friendship. We wish you long lives, full bellies, and excruciating amounts of enjoyment in all you do.

Yeah we've been here awhile. We were formerly "Chartered Company :: Great Legionnaires" but we decided to change our name and up the scope of our ambitions.

Anyway I would love to sit here and chat but I was just about to write a welcome to some group called The Keepers of The Circle.

The following are notes from the meeting on the evening of 07-Dec.-2012. We plan to continue our meetings via Teamspeak on Friday evening.

Transferred over from our original thread under our former name:
*******

"The Empyrean" is the name for our gaming clan, and "The Empyrean Order" is the name for its Pathfinder Online division.

I (Kevin C. J.) suggested "Order", but I give credit to a Thesaurus.com search for pointing out the simple answer to a question we were all overthinking. There was wide agreement that it felt like the right name, with one concern raised that it could still sound too militaristic and strict (taking orders). There are a lot of other ways to take 'order' which aren't necessarily martial or overly lawful. The group will remain Neutral Good and appreciate both the efficiency and focus of our Lawful side with the freedom and fun of our Chaotic side.

Within TEO, we currently have five guilds which focus on jobs or functions in our communities and future settlements. Certain classes may fit some of them more naturally, but there is no assumed tie between the class of a character and the guild they may work with. The guilds have formal names and colloquial nicknames. The nicknames will generally be based on the guild's insignia.

Below are the suggested names and roles, which are subject to some change and reorganization as these guilds form.
-------
Formal: "The House of Steel" [12/12/12 note - currently changed to "Argent Guard"]
Colloquial: "Silver Blades"
Roles: combat training, military & militia organization, strategy & tactics

Formal: "The Explorer's League"
Colloquial: "Green Cloaks"
Roles: exploration, scouting (some espionage), resource prospecting, wilderness & hunting guide

Formal: "The Seraphic Commission"
Colloquial: "White Staves"
Roles: diplomacy, public relations, recruitment, celebration & hospitality

Formal: "The Golden Scales Trade Guild"
Colloquial: "Golden Scales"
Roles: traders & merchants, crafts & artisans, economic relations

Formal: "Azure Astra Arcanum"
Colloquial: "Blue Stars"
Roles: information, magical services, linguistics, education, political & military intelligence
-------

We plan to start a new thread here on the Paizo board very soon (before Christmas) which will have a revised presentation of our name, vision, goals, and other aspects of our group identity. This should hopefully help with recruiting people in the Kickstarter and beyond.

We also plan on setting up a website at www.theempyrean.org, on which will be pages for different games the clan is involved with, and a phpBB forum which should provide easier communication. The TeamSpeak server settings should also receive an optimization review.

As the group grows, future meetings may need a tighter agenda, with fewer topic-jumps, tangents, and other distractions. Our good humour and rapport are vital to the group's fun social character, but we can get business out of the way a bit easier if we have purely social meetings at other times. Again, we're trying to take the best from both the Lawful and Chaotic sides while minimizing the drawbacks of each.

Thanks!
Your 'scribe' Kevin C.J. aka Keovar

Anyways it's good that this is set up. All our current info is up front and easy to see. No more searching pages for old posts. That and we have the boards up to!

I'm curious, will your emphasis be more on building your own kingdom, or on settling peace between others, or fighting lawlessness?

Goblin Squad Member

One than two and three near our borders I would guess.

Blaeringr wrote:

We will be be doing all three if by "lawlessness" you actually mean evil. The proportions in which we do each will depend upon the assets at our disposal. I am planning to focus a lot of effort on building a strong military with which to combat evil but I am only the leader of The Empyrean Order. I will not tell each member what to do with their own time unless I am asking them to defend our own assets in a time of crisis.

I believe a strong military is crucial for success in an Open World PVP and I hope to build one strong enough to do more than just protect our own assets. These changes are not shifting our focus if that is what you are asking.

I cannot wait to hear what they have in store for the guilds today! I hope it is good!

Yes I am very excited as well.

In other news my Laptop can be repaired hopefully within the week. Going to set me back about $240 for a new Hardrive and all the installations since my disks are back in edmonton.

Glad to see the new thread is finally up. Nice work guys!

oh dear, looks like I have some work to do on law enforcment. (sigh) A spellcasters work is never finished.

(low bow) well done Andius & company for your work on The Empyrean Order. It is good to see such efforts made for the future of these untaimed lands. I do hope we can do buisness for the continued benefit of the laws of the River Kingdoms.

Congratulations on leading the Land Rush :)

Thanks. It makes the work we did together as a guild during meetings; discussions online and extra work put in by us feel really rewarding.

Also Paizo.com seems to be back. So that’s good as well. Also my computer may return to the land of the living shortly. Things are looking pretty good today!

Almost makes me forget being nervous that I am presenting to my boss, his boss, his boss, his boss and the guy in charge of the whole mine site I work at today.

Goblin Squad Member

Put my vote in for the Land Rush, backing at the "Pioneer" level. Lets make sure we've got everyone that's backed the Kickstarter at $35 and higher get thier votes in.

Goblin Squad Member

Good luck, JakBlitz :)

Goblin Squad Member

IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE: The Empyrean Order is also a multi-gaming group. We aren't sitting around twiddling our thumbs waiting for PFO for the next two years. We routinely host pen and paper games as well as play a slew of other games from Planetside 2 to Mechwarrior Online.

That is what I felt missing, couldn't pin point it till today.

Goblin Squad Member

Put my vote in as well.

Grand Lodge Goblin Squad Member

My vote is in!

Goblin Squad Member

My vote as well.

Silver Crusade Goblin Squad Member

Good to hear guys. We will have to add The Land Rush Promotion to the topics for Fridays meeting.

Goblin Squad Member

Holy crap guys our registration is exploding.

Goblin Squad Member

Yes it is! I am really excited about all the attention the poll has brought us!

This sounds like a group that could be a good fit for me. I expect to try out everything PFO has to offer before I decide to specialize in anything. Hopefully, the game will support being able to do multiple professions reasonably well even if not specialized.

I have a question regarding the teamspeak. I can't guarantee being able to be on it every time I'm playing the game, how much of an issue will that be?

Goblin Squad Member

I doubt it will be an issue. But if you're participating in an event or other group activity, you'll need to be on. If you're just doing a little character maintenance, it shouldn't be required.

This ain't WoW raiding. I can't think of anything short of an invasion where we are gathering the army that we would "strongly recommend" you be on TS for.

Mechwarrior Online however don't expect me to be your lancemate if you ain't online. ^_^

ok, sounds good

Truth be told I am almost tempted to start out as a LG player that slowly falls into LE. Gives it a more rp feel to slip slowly into the role of a fallen hero. What do you think guys and gals?

Silver Crusade Goblin Squad Member

I think if you drop to LE, we'll have problems ;)

I would prefer people be on TS as much as possible just because it's where we do most of our socializing/joking around/coordinating groups etc. It's largely about getting to know your fellow order members.

We aren't super strict about it. It isn't like some guilds where if you are in-game but not in Teamspeak we are going to start screaming at you. I understand sometimes the girlfriend/spouse is sleeping or you just want to sit back and enjoy the sounds of the game. As I write this I am in the "Quiet Room" because I find it hard to talk and read/write at the same time.

But if I see you all the time in game and never in Teamspeak you'll get asked about it probably. You probably won't get hassled about it much if you spend most of your time in the Quiet Room though. That way we can poke you if anything important happens, and you can pop in and be a part of the group whenever your need for silence is over.

Goblin Squad Member

You guys are looking sharp. :)

Myself and a buddy will be in on the first month of Beta, so I'm scouting things out.

How do you guys feel about someone who can't actually see the screen to play the game being a part of your group?

Goblin Squad Member

Do you mean one of you is blind? If you are able to play the game we will be glad to have you. We will hold you to the same standards as others when it comes to military tryouts but those are not required to join us or fight in the militia. And we certainly won't hold you back if you CAN pass tryouts.

Goblin Squad Member

CJ Solo I am intrigued! I can tell you from my personal experience that The Empyrean Order does not discriminate and we would welcome all to join us!

Is there a piece of software that is run in conjunction with games that helps by providing verbal cues?

By "being a part of your group" do you mean chatting on Teamspeak and using a screen-reader to use our forum, or do you mean actually playing in the games? I have a vision impairment myself, due to optic nerve damage, but even I can't imagine how one would work around being completely unsighted! I'm certainly open either way, but if your friend can work around that, I think AbleGamers would love to do an interview.

Silver Crusade Goblin Squad Member

You've got a nice rundown of your goals, perspective on gaming and resources there. Voted for ya!

Grand Lodge Goblin Squad Member

You guys are great! I'm going through a tough time with my vision right now, I actually had a battery of neuro-optomology tests earlier this week. Luckily they all came back no change, which is great since its not expected to get better, only worse. I love Pathfinder because I don't need my vision as much, just imagination. I guess that is why I've been told I'm a great GM! Anyway, I was wary about pledging for a game I may not be able to play when it releases, but what's life without hope? I was then worried I couldn't be a contributing member of a guild, but I discovered that you guys weren't nearly as strict as other groups, so I committed to helping you further your goals. I especially liked the teaching aspect. Even if I can't fight effectively, I could teach new players the ins and outs of the game! I don't know if you guys know just how much good you're doing now, before the game even releases! Thank you.

Goblin Squad Member

Well thank you. Yes even if you have a hard time fighting I am sure there are things you can do with us even if it's just helping organize and take part in our roleplay events and competitions like the song-writing one I'm trying to put together at the moment.

However after watching man missing both legs run in the normal Olympics, I've gained a lot of faith in what people can do despite a handicap. I'm sure you may be able to contribute in ways that surprise us all, and I look forward to seeing what you are capable of.

@Vorduvai. Thanks. :) Planning to join us or just showing support for the cause?

Sounds like retinitis pigmentosa, maybe? My vision issue is optic neuritis caused by multiple sclerosis, but I've known and worked with people with RP and other vision issues. I want to advocate for making the UI moddable so we can make it more accessible to players like myself who can't make out tiny, cluttered details or small text. Even if someone can't reasonably play a combat class, crafters are definitely needed as well, and our subguild, the 'Azure Astra Arcanum' (Blue Stars) might be a great fit for someone that is a Golarion lore-master.

I was tested for that this week, it looked normal but the results were sent to a specialist to analyze. The best explanation is latent optic nerve atrophy resultant from my tumor 20 years ago. The MRI six months ago didn't show it recurring, though it's likely to happen eventually. So it's basically straight up nerve damage and decay. I'd like to be a ranger, giving combat support with a bow if needed, but mostly exploration and collection of crafting supplies. Crafting itself doesn't interest me much, except alchemy which hasn't been announced yet. I could be a guide or mapmaker...
