(I hate to add to messageboard clutter, so let's use this for all technical questions that aren't quite related to the contest itself so much as the boards they take place on.)
So I have a little question:
I would like to use an alias I've made (It's a secret, no peeking!) to make comments on people's entries and some other threads, but on testing it out it seems to automatically revert to Chris Shaeffer (the same as it would for my default account name). Is there any way around this, or will I just have to make a second account for the purposes of cheeky fun?
When you have an alias set up on your account, your main name is usually the default.
Now I suspect you don't want all your posts to default.
So when typing a message, if you look below, to the left of Preview, Cancel, Submit Post will be a drop down box, showing who you "Post As"
Click the drop down and choose the alias, then hit Submit.
When I created my Template Fu, Map Fu aliases, I found I had to close the browser and reopen to get things working properly (I use Chrome).

But if you think an alias provides you anonymity - you would be wrong.
a) They come out as purple in Chrome (cant say for other browsers)
b) Hover over the purple alias name and a pop up comes up saying
"Alias of main account name"
Chris, I think once you've been in the contest, it defaults to your real name in the Superstar area. Not sure if there's any way around that.
On the plus side, if it shows your real name and that you are a superstar, people will give that much more weight and credence to feedback you offer :)
I basically knew everything you told me, but thanks for confirming that I wasn't doing anything wrong. I'm sure other people will benefit too. :)
So Anthony, be prepared for Template Fu and Map Fu to no longer be usable if you get in the top 32 this year! Maybe they'll fix it in the future. (Or maybe they don't want people sidestepping regulations by "hiding" behind an alias.)

If that happens, I promise to take my C#, Python, HTML-5 and Java beat sticks around to the programmers and use on them mercilessly until they fix it!

I blame Spicer and in-character Gulga Cench commentary during his run at it. I had a plan to use a villain alias to post my "vote for me" posts a few years ago when I noticed these boards ate the alias.
It's really for the best, I promise. It makes it far easier to not get yourself disqualified.

Trevor and I got a little loose with the in-character posting and banter between our villains. We were careful to only do it during the "downtime"...i.e., not during voting. But still, it wasn't in the best interests of the contest. So, Paizo locked that down quite sometime ago. And it's for the best. As much fun as it can be to develop a second persona, Superstar competitors shouldn't be able to shill publicly for votes. You should be focused instead on developing your true persona. They want to advertise you. Not your alias.

Hmmm...well, then...

Ah well, the evil persona of round 1, Template Fu, will merge with the evil persona of Map Fu and together they shall live in my subconscious, only coming to take over in the months of December thru April :)
Funny thing is, I only got around to checking alias and how it works on the forum this month >.< - ah well, at least I managed to get on the boat this time :P
