What skill would be used to identify a SU ability?

Rules Questions

Ok,

So lets say a bard fascinated half of your party, but you made your save..

1) would you know

2) if not what skill would be used to identify what took place

3) even if you knew SOMETHING happened, what skill would you use to figure out what happened?

Ty

1) Pretty quickly, when your friends stood entranced, I would imagine.

2) Perception. That guy is singing, and my allies can't seem to stop staring vacantly at him.

3) Sense Motive (gut instinct). If I kill that guy, maybe they'll snap out of it.

Those are all DM calls and, while I don't disagree with them, I am assuming OP wants as RAW an answer as possible?

If it was a spell, it would be an Arcana check DC 25 + spell level. There are no rules for SU, as far as I have been able to find. The closest thing would be a Profession (Bard) check DC 25 + ...? Class level? Profession checks can be used in place of knowledge checks when a 'question' pertains to a the profession in question.

You can use sense motive to determine if someone is under an enchantment effect. Fascinated is an enchantment effect:

Sense Enchantment: You can tell that someone's behavior is being influenced by an enchantment effect even if that person isn't aware of it. The usual DC is 25, but if the target is dominated (see dominate person), the DC is only 15 because of the limited range of the target's activities.

As you will see, it is actually kind of hard to notice people would be fascinated with a DC of 25.

I have never liked the way Pathfinder handled SU abilities and I think this is one of the many holes. If I am missing something, I would love to be corrected.

Kn: arcana should do the trick. Sense Motive may help in this particular case. I'd possibly permit an appropriate Perform check to identify bardic music effects.

I thought so as well, but seeing the skill it seems to skip over SU abilities.

Makes me want to play a bard.... also remember you don't have to sing, you can be a Orator.

Yeah I always forget to call it "bardic performance" instead of "bardic music." Old habits die hard.

I would say an apropiate knowledge skill.

Arcana or Sense Motive probably. Since Sense Motive can sense when people are under enchantments.

Anyone else love that skill as much as I do? Probably my favorite skill in the game.
