Adding Summon Nature's Ally to a Summoner

Advice

Liberty's Edge

How can it be done without

1) Multiclassing (which hurts your Summons SLA)

2) Replacing Summon Monster (ie, not the First Worlder or Wild Caller archetypes)

Are there any trait, race, item, feat, whatever that can do this ?

The idea is to qualify for the X-light Summons feats (from UM) and use them with your Summon Monster SLA

You beg your DM for the substitution because the archetypes listed are the only rules based mechanics for doing so.

The Feats still will not work with Summon Monster as they are specifically targeted for the SNA spells. Or of course Improved DM Begging is required.

As a DM I'd be extremely reluctant to approve any buff to a Summoner's SLA.

Liberty's Edge

Actually, the feats target "Creatures you summon". Nothing in the RAW states that you must use SNA spells, even though they are part of the prerequisites.

By RAW, you can use them with Summon Monster (or any other Summoning spell really)

Doesn't the Samasaran race allow you to learn spells from another classes spell-list?

Liberty's Edge

Samasaran will allow this but with some restrictions.

If you are a standard wizard then you are limited to spellcasting classes that also use INT to cast spells.

Cleric uses WIS so you can pool spells from the Druid lists.

Summoner I think uses CHA so Bard and I think Witch?

Some of the more obsure classes may allow you to do this. and I think you can only choose a single class to pull spells from.

Not checked out the race in a while.

Actually not quite. Samsarans can add spells of the same type, as in arcane or divine. Since no arcane casters get summon nature's ally on their list this is a no go for the summoner.

Try a Ring of Spell Knowledge II or higher. Since Summon Nature's Ally I is not on the standard summoner's spell list, it would count as a 2nd level spell for that ring. Get that spell into the ring, and you qualify for thos X-light Summoning feats as long as you wear that ring.

A Witch with the Animals Patron adds some of them to her list and so does the Animal Speaker Bard archetype. The "divine vs arcane" divide is far from clear cut.

Nice one

Also I found out that an Agathion-Blooded aasimar can cast SNA II as a spell-like ability once a day. With their +2 CON, +2 CHA, they are an almost perfect fit.

Since this thread touches on the issue, can people please FAQ this post?

The Ring of Spell Knowledge can only be used for Arcane spells unfortunately, it's in the UE Errata.

Good catch! Should work then. That's a serious problem with the divine/arcane thing though, it is not at all clearcut.

I seem to remember an arcane school from the Ineer Sea Magic Book that lets your replace a spell two levels higher for a druid spell once you get enough Prestige Points. It was the school in the Mwangi Expanse, Magaammbya Academy (?).

They don't admit Summoners. or Sorcerers. Wizards only.
