Help with a fallen Paladin character idea

Advice

Silver Crusade

So I was playing around with the idea of a character using a scythe and being a guy that wanted to be a paladin and got so into the killing that he never made it through basic training and got kicked out (so class wise he isn't a paladin). So he the idea is that he is this rim reaper guy coming out of the shadow to take out enemies. But of course he has a big ass scythe so in game terms what class should he be? Something with stealth but rogue can't use a scythe. A ranger maybe since they also get stealth?

Any thoughts?

Might be best, thematically, to be a cleric of a (neutral) death god. If his favored weapon is 'big ass scythe' then you'd get it as a martial weapon - and your 'fall from grace' isn't quite so far, just means you didn't measure up to Paladin standards. You'd also have access to similar divine power; although as a self-aknowledged sociopath, you're probably neutral evil, chaotic evil or chaotic neutral. Depends on the spin you want this character to take and what your GM feels is appropriate.

Urban Ranger all the way. You'll have Scythe proficiency and bonuses to Stealth and Survival in favored cities. From there it's simply a matter of filling your Favored Enemy bonuses with all of the humanoid races and voila.

You should be an inquisitor. Inquisitors are basically the divine "I'll kill you in the name of my god" warriors, like vigilante clerics. They get track, they get 6+Int skill points per level, and they get better spell progression than a ranger. They also get Judgments, which are like Smites that apply to any enemy but with less powerful abilities.

Now, the inquisitor does not get scythe proficiency. No problem. Either find a deity who has the scythe as a favored weapon, or heck, just take Martial Weapon Proficiency (Scythe). I know that's going to raise your eyebrow, but humans get a free feat, half-elves can take it with Ancestral Arms racial trait, or you could just spend a feat to accomplish your character idea. (But most likely, just find a deity who has scythe as a favored weapon)

When I think of classes that support the Kenpachi play style (violence is really fun so booyeh more blood)then I think anti-paladin or Barbarian probably chaotic neutral to evil.

If you still want to be a divine class, Urgathoa's favored weapon is the scythe, and she can support neutral characters.

Thanks everyone I'll have to investigate the inquisitor. The character is a batman/punisher type mentality so they are good but not sure if it is chaotic or neutral.

Grand Lodge

Oh yeah, Inquisitor all the way.

You could be a swashbuckler rogue, too.
They can chose one weapon to be profecient with.

What books are allowed?

What Races are allowed?

Way back in 1ed AD&D, I played a Lawful Good fighter who fancied himself a paladin, but his wisdom was really low (7), so he didn't realize that he wasn't actually a paladin. Fun character, but he got himself killed holding off a horde of ghouls while the rest of the party escaped. At least he died a hero's death!

EDIT: Sorry for the non-advice. I thought I was on the "Gamer Talk" board.

I'd go for fighter... or maybe a ranger with the "two-handed" combat style. For a failed paladin who wasn't sufficiently "good", I'd go with a LN alignment.

Grand Lodge

Just how "fallen" do you want to be?

Silver Crusade

@blackbloodtroll. Fallen in that he is too quick to use violence and spent to much time trying to get revenge. So he isn't above using evil to beat evil. As for books. the main ones. core, APG, UM, UC and ARG.

@Haladir That's a cool idea. that was my first take was to just make him a fighter but then i got into the idea of this stealthy grim reaper type character and needed stealth so i came here to see if anyone else had any ideas of what would work well.

If you're interested, also take a look at the chevalier prestige class.

Three levels isn't a whole lot, but you get Aura of Courage, Controlled Charge, Poison Immunity, and Smite Evil, though this may not work since the character seems a bit more Neutral than Good (which the Prestige class requires).

I created a scythe using antipaladin. Its a lot of fun. Focus on strength, get Power Attack at level 1, work towards Hamatula Strike(every time you hit the enemy with your scythe, you get a free grapple check) and Cornagan smash(free intimidate check every time you hit with scythe).

One thing to point out with scythe, if you ever crit, the enemy pretty much dies.

Infiltrator Inquisitor is what you want.

Cast good and evil spells with impunity, have the holy warrior feel.
