The woes of the reincarnated gunslinger

Advice

Me and my party are playing through RotR and last session I failed a massive damage save against an outerdimentional overweight lava spewing ... thing. 60 points of lava damage almost cooked off my ammo, and definitely cooked me up.

So the druid in her infinite kindness reincarnated me. Surprise, I'm now a Snirfveblin! None of my clothes fit, nor does my armor and my gun is a size category larger than I am.

I've looked up the rules on oversized firearms and this is where I'm looking for advice. I'd be taking a-2 penalty for using my current gun. Now I was already considering making a new gun once we got out of our current predicament. But I'm seriously considering making my next firearm a medium sized firearm as well, instead of making a small sized version. -2 to attack rolls at level 12, even considering all the other penalties I can choose to tack on (Rapid Shot, Deadly aim), and given that my attack bonus went up by an additional +1 seems like it wouldn't penalize me as much as it might otherwise.

What do you think about it?

(From a character perspective I believe that my character would want to see his appearance and size restored, so it would make sense that he would craft his next weapon as if he's going back to that size. I myself am going to hope that my party members will want to help me find a way to restore my towering stature and rugged good looks, as getting a wish spell seems remote at best and the party's wizard has already scoffed saying there are much better uses of a wish spell.)

I'd say go for it. Someday you can eventually be brought back in your original form(I believe a wish/miracle spell can do it); and in the mean time you can just get potions of enlarge person for when you want to ditch the negatives(since then you'll be the right size). Just remember to give your buddy your gun while you drink the potion... Lest your gun change size with you and you run into the same problem lol.

Embrace your gnomishness:

+2 Dex, +2 Wis, +3 AC, +6 on Stealth, +2 o all saves, SR 11 + class level !

Though the permanent 2 negative levels might be a problem.

The Dex bonus gives +1 ranged so in total you're only -1 with an oversized gun. And your daily Grit goes up by one due to the Wis increase!

But still you might want to perhaps grab Jotungrip or Goblin Gunslinger somehow! (Ask the DM if he allows it to be reskinned to Gnome gunslinger?) Otherwise this clause might give you some trouble:

The measure of how much effort it takes to use a weapon (whether the weapon is designated as a light, one-handed, or two-handed weapon for a particular wielder) is altered by one step for each size category of difference between the wielder's size and the size of the creature for which the weapon was designed.

Or simply craft a small weapon. When you are higher level it will be easier to either get a new weapon or enlarge the small one. Falling behind with your BAB will not be worth it...

Fun questions:
Could a reincarnated gunsmith retrain the experimental gunsmith, a gnomish archetype?

What weapon/armour do you use? Someone needs to paint a pic of a badass svirfneblin Gunslinger...

That is what restoration is for...and then cast it again 1 week later and the negative levels are gone.

I think a deep gnome (Snirfveblin) is a great gunslinger class! Just be careful of SR...and how it is handled by friendly casters with buffs and heals.

Man it.... or gnome it up. It could have been the old school reincarnate where you'd have come back as a badger.

I believe that guns bypass the normal restrictions for size increases. I can't find it on the d20PFSRD, but it's there... Somewhere.

Still get the to-hit penalty, though.

Good thing you have the gun-smithing feat.

FAQ
Inappropriately Sized Firearms: Does this rule (page 136) allow a Medium or smaller creature to use larger firearms of any size?
The text of the rule is, "The size of a firearm never affects how many hands you need to use to shoot it." The intent of that rule was to prevent a Medium character from using a Small rifle as a one-handed pistol; it wasn’t intended to let a Medium character use a Large, Huge, Gargantuan, or Colossal two-handed firearm as a two-handed weapon. Just like with non-firearms, a creature cannot wield a weapon that’s far too big or small for it. Specifically in the case of firearms, a Medium character can’t use a two-handed firearm sized for a Large or larger creature, and a Small character can’t use a two-handed firearm sized for a Medium or larger creature.

I'm a horrible liar. Seems strange that they would make the Goblin Gunslinger feat when that ruling exists. Do they intend for Goblins to wield medium pistols over small rifles?

The only thing the feat would do is let you not take the penalty for using a Med. Pistol 2 handed.

Now I'm confused. I was asking if it was a good idea to use a medium sized firearm as a small creature given the conditions I've mentioned, or if I should craft my next firearm as an appropriately sized one (small). I thought it was possible to do wield an oversized weapon (as in my character wielding a medium sized weapon) albeit with a -2 penalty. I've looked ta the FAQ and it was my understanding that that was just a clarification on whether or not the -2 penalty per size difference would apply. What you seem to be suggesting is that it's not possible period?

It's possible if you're wielding a Medium sized pistol, not if you have a Medium sized rifle.

As usual, it's up to the GM, too. So there's that. But under this FAQ, you can only use an over-sized pistol. I'm not entirely sure if this pistol would take up 2 hands in this case, though. I've been wrong already in this thread so I won't say much past that, heh.

It still is very contradictory and unclear to me but this line.

"The size of a firearm never affects how many hands you need to use to shoot it."

Coupled with this line.

Seems to be saying that you can use one handed firearms sized larger than you one handed.

Yes, it is saying that. One size larger is the limit, but there it is.

So, as a small character, you could use a medium 1-h gun just fine with the standard penalty and it will still be a one-handed gun. You couldn't use a large 1-h gun and there's no "light" equivalent for guns that I know of.

I'm pretty sure you only substitute your bonuses/penalties to physical stats when reincarnated.

Nowhere does it say anything about int/wis/cha in the rest of the text either.
