Trait question

Rules Questions

So I don't know if this is the right place but I started a fighter and chose "Rough and Ready" as one of his traits which allows me to use a tool from a profession or craft skill I have 1 rank in as an improvised weapon without penalty and with a +1 bonus as well. I'm just wondering what would be considered tools for profession soldier?

MRE's?

Shovel, canteen, sturdy boot, mess kit?

Drill Manual ?

Thanks for the advice.

Is Profession:Rock Farmer a choice?

Sovereign Court

Armorer or blacksmith both use heavy hammers. Farriers had hammers to shoe horses and sometimes carried large axes to put down injured horses.

thanks,

Kodger

Hard tack as a thrown weapon.

To be fun, how about a Torch? (Soldiers often need sentries who carry light about, this would make you a talented burner of folks!)

A shovel is a great choice, gritty and true-to-life... entrenching tools were very often improvised weapons both world wars.

Or if you were TWF, you could count your scabbard as a tool, slashing with a blade and smacking people with a weighted scabbard.

Soldiers often carry rope to scale obstacles or tie/secure/drag stuff... so if you weaponized rope it could be a trip weapon if your GM approved, or have whip-like traits.

Sovereign Court

Profession (Butcher) for cleavers and mallets. Or Profession (Hatter) for vats of mercury.

For a solider, how about his helmet?

I'd probably pick a shovel for that Soldier profession.

So, here are some objects that I am unsure what Profession/Craft they relate to:

1) Rocks.

2) Arrows.

3) Rope.

4) Umbrella.

5) Corpse.

1) Profession(Quarryman) or Profession(Convict Hard Labor)

3) Profession(Trick Rope Specialist) or Perform(Rope Tricks) or Perform(Shibari)
4) Profession(Mary Poppins)

Grand Lodge

Unfortunately, Perform is not covered by Rough and Ready.

Only Profession and Craft.

3) Tight Rope Walker?
4) Lady in Waiting
5) Undertaker

I'd say anything in the Fighter's Kit would be fair game:

1. Miner. Geologist. Paleo-*. Jeweler. Smith. Metallurgist. Alchemist. Soldier or Guard (rocks are a common battlement weapon).
2. Fletcher. Bowyer. Soldier. Pretty much any martial profession.
3. Sailor. Engineer. Mason. Carpenter. Soldier (again).
4. Courtesan. Aristocrat. Umbrella-maker? (Maybe a general Artisan profession.)
5. Mortician. Gravedigger. Physician (ha!). Necromancer (in the strict sense).

I'd probably vote Shovel for a soldier. The Tool that Conquered the World, indeed. Also, role players will appreciate the reference to "shovel heads"

What about:

a Grappling Hook,

a Crowbar,

or Portable Ram?

blackbloodtroll wrote:

Profession: Physicist.

Grappling Hook: I don't know if "Sherpa" is a profession.... So I'll go with Soldier yet again, and possibly Engineer.
Crowbar: Engineer.
Portable Ram: Oh come on.

Uhm, Grappling Hook & Crowbar? Seriously, you guys are going with engineer and physicist?

How about Profession (burglar) for the win?

Because Gordon Freeman, really.

Profession (Gardener/Landscaper) is great for this trait. Flip through the catalog from a hardvare store: Everything bigger than a dagger that's at all wieldable is a gardening tool, basically.

One of my fellow players has a PC with the Profession (Courtesan).

The mind boggles as to what tools she'd use for the Rough & Ready trait!!

Everything with a handle becomes deadly in your hands.

"Fear my posthole-digger... OF DOOOOOM!"
"I always keep a trowel ready for trench warfare."
"Ahh, but this is a masterwork rake."

I keep meaning to port this over to PF.
