Liberty's Edge

Is Perform Sing the same as

Perform Oratory ??

Dark Archive

No, the are two different types of performances. Excellent rules question.

Nope. Oratory (that is, speechifying) can be used in place of Diplomacy and Sense Motive, while Sing can be used instead of Bluff or Sense Motive.

Totally read that in the voice of Malcolm Reynolds.

And Bardic Performances using Oratory can be used for Distraction versus sight effects, while Sing can be used for Countersong versus sound effects. Never could understand why Oratory is visual since it kinda involves speech in a fairly direct way.

Think of Oratory as the preacher in his pulpit, or the televangelist; while Sing is what the choir does.

Perform (Oratory) is, as mentioned, speechifying, or, in more general terms, the guy/gal standing on the stage "selling" the crowd on his product, Oral Roberts, Ron Popeil, etc.

Perform (Sing) is Johnny Cash, Elvis, Olivia Newton-John, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, etc.

Oratory is partly visual, since that person making the speech s also usually making grand gestures to help keep the crowd involved in his talk.

So it wasn't just to split up the perform skills into categories & that's where this one ended up to keep things even? </sarcasm>

I guess since the root word of oratory is the Latin word ora which means mouth or opening... oh, wait.

Um, well, the last part of the word is tory which is a political party that grew out of the cavalier faction & we all know cavaliers are all about looking good, so bingo! visual it is.

I like how at least 3 different unasked and unprovoked questions were answered here :)
