Master of Many Styles Archtype question

Rules Questions

On a Monk's Master of Many Styles archtype, it says that, with the bonus feats, that you can take Style feats after you've taken the main style feat, with worrying about pre-reqs.

Am I reading this right? Does this mean a 2nd level Monk could take Snake Style with his 1st Monk bonus feat and then Snake Fang (skipping Snake Sidewind) with his 2nd bonus feat? That seems crazy powerful for a 2nd level character.

Shadow Lodge

That only applies for the top of each Style tree. The styles feat later in each tree still need the prerequisite Style feats before getting the third level of the tree.

Not true.

As long as you have the first feat in the line, then you can take any other feat in the line.

Shadow Lodge

Ahh, I see how I misread that.

I did not know this. Is this only for combat style feats or any feats? For example, can you get light armour and then skip medium and go straight to heavy?

Only for style feats, and yes it is crazy-powerful for a 2nd level character, although in many cases (eg Crane Riposte) there is no benefit in getting the third feat before the second.

Then again, I'm pretty sure this class was designed primarily as a 'dip' class for other combat classes to take some monk features without having to be burdened with all the monk's baggage. As such, it works perfectly.

No flurry for this archetype though.

If a Monk is powerful for a few levels, let him have it.

K, just wanted to make sure I had the rules right. And yes, this is a "dip" into Monk for a Fighter build, so I'm not worried about losing Flurry.

Thanks!

Why is there no benefit to skipping Crane Wing? The way I'm reading the feat description is:

Having Crane Riposte as a feat changes the attack penalty for fighting defensively to -1. Additionally, if one activates crane style, you gain additional benefits contingent on having Crane Wing.

One would not receive not the whole benefit of the feat (and it may not even be a good decision to go this route) but to me it looks like a bonus without having to spend a swift action to activate the style.

Most people would say that the riposte is the big part of Crane Riposte, so you lose the majority of the benefit.

Thanks Dabbler. I wanted to make sure I wasn't misreading the feat.
