I've been thinking about why a wizard wouldn't combine a pearl of the sirens with a huge swimming pool for a terrain advantage: a movement boost to her and an impediment to melee characters. The answer is that every magic item has a hard counter.
* * * *
SORSHEN appears!
SORSHEN casts mass charm monster on SEONI and KYRA.
SEONI resists!
KYRA resists!
SEONI casts quickened mage's disjunction on pearl of the sirens
*fizz*
It's super-effective!
*SPLOOSH*
SORSHEN has been dunked!
SEONI casts cone of cold. The water becomes an ice floe. SORSHEN is helpless!
MERISIEL laughs like a goblin on qat. SORSHEN is annoyed.
KYRA casts summon monster ix. An ASTRAL DEVA is summoned!
ASTRAL DEVA uses disrupting warhammer on SORSHEN
*SMUSH*
It's super effective! SORSHEN's head explodes like a watermelon!
SORSHEN has fainted!
KYRA gets 410,000 xp!
SEELA gets 410,000 xp!
SEONI gets 410,000 xp!
MERISIEL contributed nothing to the fight. MERISIEL gets squat!

On the plus side, Merisiel and Kyra now have a swank honeymoon suite, as soon as they clean out all the dead bodies.

More like:
SORSHEN is helpless!
SORSHEN's Contingency activates, Teleporting SORSHEN to safe house, because SEONI was an idiot and used Disjunction as a targeted spell.
SORSHEN plots another, better Scry and Die.
There are dozens of other little holes in this scenario, I just picked one to point out.

Possible, but there was no mention of the method while there was mention of the target. There was only the word "cast". Still, rod or no, it's an effective 13th level spell - I said nothing about it being impossible. The point was along Elamdri's: that's a lot of spellpower just to un-magic one magic item!
Also, Seoni is a she. :P

Why does Seelah get XP when Merisiel doesn't? She didn't do anything either. Heck I didn't even know she was in the party until she was mentioned in the XP handout.
Merisiel DID so do something; she laughed at Sorchen, which annoyed him (I mean, its even emphasized in bold in the OP...)
Besides, the reason why wizards don't fight in swimming pool is because wizards don't wear swimsuits (and therefore also don't play beach bloodbowl). I though everyone knew that...

That's not what the XP summary says ;)

I know! She got totally short-changed!

Poke away, that's what simulations're for.
The point of this post, besides humor, was to point out that reliance on a magic item isn't a good idea.
Anyway, some explanation of why the tactics were how they were:
• Seoni wanted to make sure that pearl of the sirens was shut down, thus the targeted disjunction. By the way, would a disjunction field prevent a cone of cold?
• Yes, Seoni did have a Greater Quicken Metamagic Rod.
• Yes, I completely forgot about a contingency spell. However, one set to "cast greater dispel magic on me when a spell effect keeps me from acting" wouldn't help against frozen pool water.
• The pool was 4' deep, and calm enough to only require a 10 on a Swim check. Since Sorshen didn't use any other water breathing magic, a deeper pool would've resulted in a longer battle ending in a humiliating drowning -- assuming that scenario doesn't have any holes.
• Seela's contribution was her aura, the one giving +4 against charms and compulsions.

The rules say to award XP to each PC that participated in the session. Did the rogue not participate in the session?
Keep a list of the CRs of all the monsters, traps, obstacles, and roleplaying encounters the PCs overcome. At the end of each session, award XP to each PC that participated.
