So has the Ranger got anything new?

Advice

Dark Archive

So what has the Ranger received over the past little bit that may help him shine even brighter than before if anything at all?? I love Treantmonks Guide to Rangers but its a bit outdated and the other two guides aren't the skirmisher type that I enjoy playing so much. I know Marc Radle put out the Spell-less Ranger which everyone should check out...highly recommended and that is what I am getting ready to play finally in a RotRL campaign but I haven't kept up with anything regarding beefing up Rangers or if they have gotten any new feats/weapons that can help them shine even more so any info is appreciated =D

Check out Clustered Shots. They also got quite a few things in the APG and Ultimate Combat. It just depends on what you are looking for.

The big one is Horizon Walker prestige class w/ Instant Enemy. :)

Oh I love Clustered Shots and it will be fitted into my build at some point but basically I am going with the Switch-hit skirmisher with the Spell-less Ranger. The Spell-less Ranger has sneak attack damage to his favored enemies and enemies in his favored terrain and a Ranger Talent called Skirmishing Attack that is basically the level 8 equivalent of a Rogue Scout so basically I'm looking for nice bow feats or feats that help improve skirmishing...plus any new items that have came out in UE would be handy because I do not own that book yet either

Snap Shot & Improved Snap Shot are pretty cool feats, they let you make AOO's with your bow at a distance of 15'.

Point Blank Master is a very good feat that is added to a Ranger's 6th level bonus feats.

Anyone have anything else to add before I go off to the drawing board

Check out the archetypes. The guide is my favorite, it's always an amazing choice, and probably the best one at low levels.

Where did u find the ranger with sneak attacks?

To the OP : I play a spell-less Ranger with the Archery style in RotRL. Due to RP and unforeseen circumstances, I am adding 5 levels of Paladin to the mix, which make feats like Clustered Shots less needed.

My advice : go for the Dual-Style archetype (in the Expanded Spell-less Ranger book itself). It is a great boost in power for the spell-less Ranger (and broken IMO for the core class due to the Instant Enemy spell).

My build features the following goodies :

Talent = Scent : works quite well with Pheromone Arrows (from Elves of Golarion)

Feats = Savage Terrain Warrior and Additional Favored Terrain. Your abilities depend so much on being in a Favored Terrain that the latter is a must have. Boots of Friendly Terrain can be quite useful too especially at lower levels.

Equipment = Weapon Blanches are quite good for arrows, especially the one that gives them the Ghost-touch property (not available for ranged weapons otherwise). Sniper Goggles are a must-have.

I have not yet taken a good look at UE. Still the Hosteling property for magic armor looks interesting. Also the Adaptive ability for bows will help make STR drain less crippling

What is the difference between a spell-less ranger and a skirmisher ranger?

UE adds ranger traps. It also adds a trapper archetype that you wouldn't be able to take, since it sacrifices spells; but you can still use the new traps with the feat Learn Ranger Trap.

Since you are playing RotRL like myself currently, would you suggest Underground, Urban, and Mountains in that order for Favored Terrains and going with Dual Style take Giants as the only FE along with the campaign trait that gives you a +1 against giants for RP purposes??

@JMCampbell
The spell-less ranger and skirmisher are actually somewhat similar in the way they play however spell-less imo play a whole lot better. the skirmisher is very limited on ranger talents and they aren't very good to begin with whereas I have no problem picking talents for the SR. The SR however is a 3pp class from Kobold Press so you would have to ask your GM to allow you to play one. Raven posted the link to the pdf for purchase and it is very worth its weight in gold, silver, dollars, and pennies so pick it up asap

Sorry for not answering earlier.

I answered the part about Favored Terrains in your other post ;-)

Check with your GM about which only FE he would advise you taking with the Dual-style archetype, but yes, I believe that Giants see a lot of use in this AP.
