MOUNTED COMBAT AM ALSO GOOD FEET IF NOT ALREADY GOTTEN. ENEMY AM ALL LIKE 'ATTACK MOUNT' AND MOUNT AM ALL LIKE 'EEP' AND THEN RIDER AM ALL LIKE 'NUH UH RIDE CHECK' AND ATTACK AM ALL LIKE 'MISS' AND ENEMY AM ALL LIKE 'WHAT AM EVEN DOING WITH LIFE?!' AND THEN DIE BECAUSE LANCE TO FACE.
ALSO RIDE-BY-ATTACK AM MAKING KINDA DIFFICULT FOR ENEMY TO GET MORE THAN ONE ATTACK. SO AM PRETTY ACCURATE SUMMARY, ACCORDING TO BARBARIAN.

It's definitely worth taking four levels in cavalier so you can qualify for Horse Master. Afterwards you can focus on fighter if you like, and your mount will scale up to your total level instead of your cavalier levels.

http://paizo.com/pathfinderSociety/about/additionalResources A cavalier of 4th level or higher may take the Horse Master trait, ignoring the expert trainer class feature. A cavalier who trades this class feature for another as part of an archetype can not take the Horse Master feat.
Horse Master is delicious cheese, and allowed at our table! (Unless you are a Beast Rider--I think that's the only archetype that gives up horse master, but I didn't look at all of them that closely).

Small lances do 1d6, medium lances do 1d8. Small sized mounted characters are very popular because their medium sized mounts fit inside buildings and dungeons.

Sorry to reviving an old thread, but I was wondering about the damage calculation of OP's power attack.
3d6 + 24 => the 24 is 3(STR) + 1(+1 weapon) + 4(power atk)
Wouldn't it be
3d6 + 30? => Since the power attack for lance (regardless of using 1 or 2 hands, according to paizo's FAQ) adds +50% bonus; it should be 6 damage instead of 4.
So 3 + 1 + 6 = 10, then x3 = 30.
I'm totally lost on calculating Crit dmg however. :(

They killed that FAQ and replaced it with the universal "it's treated as however you're wielding it" FAQ, so no two-handed lance damage unless you're actually two-handing it.
Crit damage would multiply the static modifiers plus the base weapon die, and 3x + 3x = 5x in PF math, so:
Base damage including PA - 1d6 + 8
Spirited Charge + PA - 3d6 + 24
Spirited Charge + PA + Crit - 5d6 + 40

Doesn't look like they've killed it.
That^, and it's still in the d20pfsrd.

Completely irrelevant. Paizo doesn't maintain the d20pfsrd and it can take time for changes to trickle over to them, especially ones for things like a FAQ being removed or amended.
That being said, it does look like the FAQ is back in place (I'm certain that it was taken down for a while... maybe I'm crazy), so it looks like you do get your -1/+3 spread, at least for the time being.
