Great Gnome characters?

Pathfinder Society

Silver Crusade

I am specializing in Gnome characters as i study the race book and the advance race book. I was wondering what is the best Gnome character has anyone encountered/created during there whole time playing pathfinder.

He's only got 2 levels but i really do like Shamus Woodgear.

Channel heavy build, going for versatile channeler and control undead. He wants to have his own undead dance line, because being dead is no excuse for being boring.

He joined the lantern lodge because he's a cleric of the lantern king, and thinks the organization is his cult. He refers to amara Li as "highpreistess" or "Your great watermelonness)

Wears scale mail and a traditional mawangi formal dress, with a crocodile skull for a hat (from first steps)

By definition gnome characters and great characters are mutually exclusive.

The answer to this question is simple. There are two gnome characters who are "the best." Both of them are mine. Next question!

The Exchange 3/5

Kyle, you will have to see my Gnome in action at Rock-Con this year. He's a bit of a skill monkey with Dex, Int and Cha. If he makes it through one more scenario, his Str penalty will be essentially erased and his melee attacks will be as good as his ranged attacks. Not a lot of levels yet, but with several modified rolls over 30 so far, he has carried the party where brute force wasn't enough and spellcasters weren't available. And it's always enjoyable when the little guy deals out damage at just the right place or time and saves the bacon of some big fighter that has neither the skill set nor good luck in combat.

The Exchange 3/5

Unless you're planning to play solo (translation: seek professional help), the best character is one who brings something to the party that nobody else has, which helps make it a fun and successful adventure for everyone there. I played an online scenario recently that ended up having 4 gnomes out of 5 PCs - and there wasn't another one there that was at all like mine. Play something you think will be fun, play it over the top, and don't worry about being the "best". Just make it the best time you can and have fun.

Dark Archive

I have a gnome cleric of Milani from Galt. He's.... less funny than you'd think.

I also have a gnome bard (save or suck / save-the-day spells). He's pretty awesome for boosting other players.

Silver Crusade 4/5

I have a Gnome Deep Earth Sorcerer who is pure controller. He does no direct damage. Ever. He doesn't have any direct damage spells, nor does he own a weapon. At level 4, the only two times he's directly damaged enemies, it's been with alchemist's fire.

Despite that, there's only been one encounter in four levels of play (Pathfinder Society, playing with different people and characters each time) where his companions have complained about him not having anything useful to do in combat. Giant spiders were tough for him at level 2, as they were immune to his mind altering spells and impossible for him to trip with his Tremor power because the extra legs make them so stable.

3/5

Locally, we have a gnome themed fire sorcerer that can put out a lot of damage, and I play an Archivist bard who doubles as rogue, healer, and wizard, and is septimdecalingual. On the whole, not a heavily played race in the boulder/denver area.

Shadow Lodge 4/5

I concocted a gnomish troublemaker of sorts. Powerful, yet subtle, she specializes in all things arithmetic and pounding, preferring to let her brawny compatriots do the stomping, the tearing-of-the-flesh and the meandering scoutswork. Her lot is her brains and her lips. Oh, she is very good with them. Very. Left her home in Wispil early on thanks to them. Found herself in Kaer Maga later and realised her lips were exactly what the city wanted. Now though, the Society has found her, by accident or by intent - no matter, after following the trail of one of her employers. Something about Shadows perhaps? In any case, she bid Miss Feathers a courteous farewell, asked her to not trust the Ardocs with the girls and left for the Jewel of the Inner Sea.

Oh, she's an Oracle(seeker) of Lore. Hadn't done a pure skill monkey in a while. Yes, she's got the Charming trait and yes she is all about making GMs facepalm.

My gnome is great fun to play, and while it took a few levels to get her to pure awesome, it was well worth it.

She's a Druid 6 (Bear Shaman) and Oracle 1 (Life). Bear shamans get to function their wild shape ability as if their druid level is two levels higher after level 6, so at six she can wild shape three times a day into a dire bear (could go bigger up to huge, but large is usually all that fits in combat with an average five other PCs, in my experience). She also has a medium bear companion that follows her around and that, if she wants to be in melee without being a bear, she rides into battle. Because she's a druid, she can pull Summon Nature's Ally without having prepped it as long as it takes up a spell slot. As a Bear Shaman, she can cast Summon Nature's Ally as a standard action when summoning bears, applying templates to change the level of spell required to summon it, or the number of bears you summon based on the level of the spell.

So, when she sees fit, she sends in her companion, summons (right now) 1-2 bears (I think--I'll have to double check), and then becomes a bear herself. Before she changes, she yells out, "You get a bear! And you get a bear! And you get a bear! And you get a special bear!"

Then she has the Natural Spell feat, which lets her cast as a bear. She took the level of Oracle so that she can channel. Her purpose is to keep people alive, whether it is through standing near them with a wand or standing over them as a large bear with 95 hit points that channels. She doesn't like to see people die, because if they die, they can become undead, which is a slavery she hates in particular (Andoran, with a grudge against undead--You Only Die Twice was fun).

Story wise, she is an animal wrangler with my family's circus of characters (The Flying Flutterfoot Family (and Co.) Circus--perhaps you've heard of us?), as well as being the cook. She grew up among druids, where she learned all of her skills and grew rather fond of a certain bear, and then was a typical "teen" who ran off to join the circus.

My favorite story of her adventures happened when she was in a party with Gruk the Half-Orc Barbarian, with Throw Anything and a whole bunch of bonuses to throwing things. She was presented with a ten-foot hallway and a dire wolf blocking a doorway, so she came up to Gruk and told him to throw her (readied action). He shrugged, and picked up the small creature and threw her. Right before she made impact with the wolf, she wildshaped into a large bear, hitting him with 4d6 impact damage plus 7 from Gruk's throwing improvement and whatnot. By far the best story that those characters share around the camfire: "The time with the flying bear."

I play a couple of gnomes:

Venture Captain and Knight Captain of Andoran Utan Nidantan Kipon "Hoppy" Wortmuddler. Utan's an oracle of battle, who worships Caiden Cailean. His bright blue eyes appear to be made from gemstones and do not function as normal. Utan is unable to see anything beyond 60 feet, but has remarkable vision within 60 feet.

Utan's collects languages. He is currently fluent in 36 and working on learning Tengu and Nagaji. He owns a very successful caravan and is a trained scribe. In the field, he can be found in a magical suit of mithril full plate with two heavy flails strapped to his back -- one silver and the other adamantine. Currently he has been working as a venture captain at large, working as a healer -- removing curses, diseases, blindness, deafness, restoring sanity, breaking enchantments, and raising pathfinders from the dead.

Theologian Ranzwick Sprocketminder is a cleric of Brigh and a bit of a pyromaniac. He was born a mathematical prodigy -- being particularly good with three-dimensional spatial geometry. Ranzwick is a vocal advocate for engineering, alchemy, science, and large, fiery explosions. He claims to be an expert in all matters, however this has been repeatedly shown to be patently false

Ranzwick is completely bald, but has a spectacularly bushy, blonde mustache. In combat, Ranzwick usually can be found with a heavy mithril shield in the shape of a single-toothed cog and, rather than a weapon, an open flame burning in his weapon hand. Out of combat he can usually be found working at the forge. He is currently trying to devise plate mail barding for house cats.

Lantern Lodge 4/5

This is my first an currently only Pathfinder Society character.

Rija Bookbinder is a pink haired and eyed gnome that currently calls Absalom home. She visited the Shrine of the failed during her travels and ever since that day has been completely deaf. Well she constantly hears a chorus of voices, which she assumes belonged to the failed, and can hear nothing else. After that she chose Absalom as her homebase and has remained there ever since when not traveling for the pathfinders.

Rija makes a living with a booth she has established on the Avenue of the Hopeful. Every potential god needs a holy book and she is willing to provide them with her scribing and bookbinding skills. If some hopeful happens to pass the Test of the Starstone then she would be more than pleased to mass produce the book. In her time at this task she has collected a great many holy symbols and holier texts of potential deities.

She is an oracle of lore and has an obsession with collection knowledge in her books. Also after grappling, pinning, and dragging a hobgoblin across a room she is feels learning more about grappling would be a good idea.

I'm sorry, I can't hear any of you gnome detractors over how awesome my Flying Carpet is.

Dammit, Will - when do we get to sit at a table when you're playing, not judging?

Hmmm - I see we're all playing level 4 characters in slot 1 at Pacificon.

I'm looking forward to it. You and Wendy-Ann are a treat to run a game for. I'm looking forward to playing side by side with you as well.

I'll be playing Janx Zigswift, a Besmara worshipping Tempest Druid from the Sodden Lands. Janx is a child of the bayou. He's a skilled boatman, relies on swamp magic, and likes to wrestle.

Gnomes make for excellent fun to play. Their general enthusiasm and personal motivation adds immensely to the games I play in with mine. I give 'kudos' to the designers for their work on the gnomish backstory, the departure from 'cousins of the dwarves' and making them into their own unique and quite interesting race is what drew me into pathfinder.

Good Job Guys!

But the most important details that very few people have mentioned in their gnome descriptions: What color are they?

My Deep Earth Sorcerer is actually pretty subdued coloration for a gnome - greyish skin and brown hair. He looks the part of a tunnel dweller, which goes with his bloodline, but he's still got a normal gnomish personality.

Answer: All Gnome characters are great. Viva la Gnome armada!

Honestly have not seen a single Gnome PC, except for my myself, so I guess by default I'm the best I've ever seen.

While only second level, I am loving life as a sylvan sorcerer. My Giant frog mount, George, is also great.

Being of an undead bloodline I have a somewhat pallid complexion. My naturally purple skin has taken to darkening around my eyes and cheeks. My hair is a bit less exotic than my brethren, although it is a marvelous raven black color. None of this doesn't tends to sour my disposition too much... and certainly the dead are so very fascinating... don't you think?

Silver Crusade

wow. this is a great outcome. didnt expect so many people to respond. i made a Gnome rogue that is a Skill beast. still havent made a offical PFS Gnome but i will now look into it. i enjoy making a character with a challenging class.

Liberty's Edge

I have three gnomes PFS characters.

Bowawa (Bowawamadamatamightagoay) and his riding dog companion Ruffus (Ruffustallusbarkus). Bowawa is shades of Green from his forest green hair to his pale green eyes. He even colored his compound bow green. Bowawa is a gambler by trade but can't get anyone to play with him. He keeps getting thrown out of gaming dens because he gets so excited that he uses his skills and magic to help the other players and the owners toss him out. One day he heard about how the Andorans are all about freedom and since he thinks everything should be free he joined them. Only later did he realize that they were talking about slaves. He is level 8 but plays at the 9-11 tables because of the damage he does. The other players keep him in the back for his own safety.

The Amazing Sollertalica is the worlds greatest illusionist (at least in his mind). Dressed in the latest of Taldorian fashion which highlights his bright red hair and blue eyes. He was encouraged to explore the world as a pathfinder by his master, who claimed that knowledge of the world would make his illusions more believable. The truth is that Talica's arrogance was driving off other students and master got tired of him. He has been known to both hold enemy's attention with his illusions and sit on the sideline firing magic missiles while everyone else fights. He is almost level 6 and despite his arrogance very popular at the table.

Wa-Chan samurai of the Lantern Lodge has porcelain white skin with pitch black hair. He looks like a Asian doll dressed as a samurai. He has no memory of his life before being found by a samurai on a trade mission. He was taken in by the samurai and the masters family. They named him Wa-Chan which means beloved small one. He trained as a samurai and holds the ideals of honor above all else. His master asked him to join the Lantern Lodge as a favor to Amari Li and to send back information about new trade possibilities. He works as a translator and is always looking to learn another language. He is only a level two and has yet to make a name for himself.

Yeah, I can't recall having another gnome at the table. Halflings galore but gno gnomes

There is a gnome in my local group that my gnome has played with before. He's addicted to Color Spray, and whenever the party is doing something role play heavy, he sits in the corner and Color Sprays himself. We played at a table with a cool player who gave our gnomes something shiny as a keepsake.

You poor people and your limited gnome exposure.
