Useful languages at low levels?

On PFS scenarios what are the most useful languages at low levels?

Grand Lodge

Ancient languages, regional human languages and planar languages can all help with faction missions and particular scenarios. Planar languages could become more useful at higher levels if you plan to learn higher than 1st level summoning spells.

You could consider picking languages spoken by foreign and isolated characters who are unlikely to speak Common, such as humans who live a long way from the Inner Sea or creatures of the Darklands. However, on the other side of that coin, it might be a long time before you meet a speaker of the language. Kelish and Skald, to name two, are spoken both in distant lands and by frequent travellers to the Inner Sea region.

Any Tians you meet in scenarios probably speak Common, but I've had an experience late in season 3 where enough of the PCs could speak Tien that the majority of the party could talk among themselves and not be understood by Inner Sea NPCs.

You might find that languages that are needed in one scenario are likely to come up in another, so at 2nd or higher level you could let your character's experience guide you.

As with many areas of the game, it may be best to read a bit about the setting, then form a concept for your character and concentrate on it, so that any random group of different people who have done the same thing are more likely to cover a broad range of abilities.

Depends. Go with Common for all purpose and your racial, then look to your faction for guidance.

If you use Summoning spells, Celestial, Ignan, Terran, Aquan, and Aural (I may have misspelled a lot of those). Also, if you have party members you are particularly attached to, you may learn their language out of respect or what have you.

Thanks for the tips. I ask because PFS scenarios can take a character to any place in golarion. But I guess that some areas and creature types "goblins" are more common at lower levels. For example I might be wrong but I don't think I usually will speak with dragons at low levels.

However to be more specific what languages do you think could be useful in the current PFS season? I guess goblinoid is a good guess :)

Dragons, no. Kobolds, yes.

In season 4, Varisian, Goblin and (not to drop spoilers or anything) Thassilonian seem relevant.

I was expecting that!

giant, goblin, and other core languages if others don't have them. It also depends a lot on the campaign.

The thassilonian language is available on PFS? Which rule book allows it?

Dunno, I always like learning Draconic, Sylvan and Undercommon. And the elemental languanges for casters.

Celestial and Infernal/Abyssal could help too. Infernal is particullary useful if you live in Chelliax.

I've always liked picking up Celestial and Draconic as extra languages, not so much because you are gonna run into any celestials or dragons, but because you can oftentimes speak freely in those languages without worry of anyone understanding you.

In one campaign I'm currently in, the group uses Celestial for calling out strategies and directions and such in combat.

Heh, we use Skald, Sphinx and Drow Sign Language for that. But most human racial languages will do.

PFS Additional Resources wrote:

Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Inner Sea World Guide

..
Languages: all languages on page 251 may be learned via the Linguistics skill;

Thassilonian is listed on page 251 under Ancient Languages.

Except every planar aligned outsider speaks both of those, including demons and devils.
