Forgemaster Cleric & Stonelord Paladin

Whoever designed the Forgemaster Cleric and Stonelord Paladin archetypes for dwarves deserves some sort of amazing prize. These are two of the most well though out archetypes I have ever seen. They're flavorful, cool, and quite balanced just at a cursory glance. They embody what people think of when they think dwarves, and provide meaningful and brilliant substitutions for them. Stonelord Paladin in particular is just a stroke of brilliance. I never thought I would want to play a Dwarf Paladin, and now I absolutely NEED to.

Thank you, whoever you are.

Thanks for the kudos. I hope you have as much fun playing them as I did writing them!

Yes uber thanks! I have been wanting to play a dwarf pally and though I will miss smite evil. ....nevermind Stonelords are really cool!

Yeah, I'm gonna third the sentiment. Both those Archetypes are awesome.

It's not often you read an Archetype and realize that while it removes an integral ability like Smite Evil, Divine Grace, or Channel energy it's replacement is actually something at least as good, and that it simultaneously removes the need for an entire stat the base class requires (Charisma in these case).

That's some exemplary craftsmanship, there.

They're pretty great. I don't even like dwarves and even I'm tempted to play them with these archetypes just for how mechanically and favorfully strong they are.

I've never been a fan of dwarves myself but the Stonelord is the best looking archetype in the book, chock full of flavor and looks like a blast to play. While I'm not a fan of the replacement ability for Smite Evil (because its less useful in PFS), I look forward to seeing how it measures in play.

I really like the stonelord, great concept, great mechanics.
But... one thing which bothers me are the skills, I think a small "dwarven" change at the class skills would be nice. (e.g. ride <> know. dungeoneering).

Thank you very much for the Stonelord I love the mechanics and theme.

I also have to second everyone here. I never thought I would want to play a dwarf, paladin or cleric, and now I can't get over how damn cool they are with these two archetypes. The removal of charisma as a necessity for both was simply brilliant.

Only change I made was to give forgemasters the rune domain as well as artifice as it seemed to fit thematically (even though the domain would not normally fall under torag). It made sense that the dwarven clerics that put runes on things would have access to those powers. It also helps to address that some people were upset that they were stuck with only one domain, and it's artifice.

I do like the idea of this separate sect of dwarven clerics as crafting for dwarvens often times holds the same devouting one might associate with religion.

Since this is already Necromanced, might as well put in that I wish they would do an equally cool Dwarven Wizard archetype to go along with these . . . .

what book?

The Advanced Race Guide has the following archetypes for Dwarves:

  • Exarch (Inquisitor)
  • Foehammer (Fighter)
  • Forgemaster (Cleric)
  • Stonelord (Paladin)

A Dwarven Wizard is still a wishlist archetype . . . .
