Domain Slot

Rules Questions

On the chart in the corebook for the cleric under level 1 for spells per day it has 1+1. At the bottom it says that the +1 represents the domain spell slot.

So I am curious does 1+1 mean the cleric gets 2 spells from level 1? One of them being a non-domain spell and one being a domain spell?

Or does it mean the cleric only gets 1 level 1 spell and that spell has to be the domain spell?

And he always has to have a domain spell from each level of spells he picks?

Also he can have more then one domain spell regardless of slots? Meaning he can have 2 domain spells at level 1 instead of one domain spell?

Thanks for answering.

Yes to the first, no to the second.

Yes

Not unless the spell is normally on her spell list, and they commonly won't be.

You're welcome.

Yes. Plus the bonus spell(s) from his Wisdom score.

No. Domain spells can only be prepared in the domain spell slots*. You CAN choose to use a higher level domain spell slot to memorize a lower level domain spell if you really need multiple castings.

*(If the domain spell is on your spell list as a standard spell, you can of course use standard slots to memorize it).

Thanks for answering one last question it may be a stupid one sorry if it is but this was listed in the book for domains:

If a domain spell is not on the cleric spell list, a cleric can prepare it only in her domain spell slot.

So does this basically state what you guys said that only a domain spell can be in that slot? Cause every level for domains has at least a domain spell that can be put in there. Can anyone clarify it more?

That is just so Fire domain clerics don't try arguing that they can prepare fireball intheir normal slots.

Domains and domain slots are a separate entity from the normal spells. There is no crossover so domain spells can only be prepared in those slots and those slots can only hold domain spells. If the spell is ALSO on your cleric list, as is the case with the Healing domain, then you can prepare those spells normally as well but this is separate from the domain spells.

Thank you for your help.

darkkeepr:
There are workarounds regarding the number of times per day you can use domain spell slots. With a Pearl of Power you can cast them more than one time per day. There are probably other methods out there as well.

I was wondering the same thing. I was also wondering about switching spells for Cure light wounds. Can you switch out your domain spell or is it just your normal spells. Does it matter if the spell is in both Domain and normal spells selection?

You may not spontaneously case a cure light wounds out of your domain spells (barring an exception such as an archetype).

The cleric can “lose” any prepared spell that is not an orison or domain spell in order to cast any cure spell of the same spell level or lower (a cure spell is any spell with “cure” in its name).

It does matter which spell is your domain spell. Keep domain spells separate at all times.

Sweet. Thanks everyone.

Can a cleric use a wand of a domain spell that is not otherwise on the cleric spell list?

Yes, if they have that domain. Because it's then on their spell list, even if it's not on a generic cleric's spell list.

What Bobson said. The real trick is when you hit scrolls. Then the scroll also has to be Divine to be able to use it.

Example: If the cleric has the spell shield she cannot read an arcane scroll of shield (which would be about 99.9% of all scrolls of shield).
