half elf summoner questions

I am looking at a half-elf summoner. Taking the alternate racial trait of arcane training would do what for me? Not sure if I see how the trigger items or item completions figure in. I just know I will not be multi-classing so the two preferred classes do nothing for me.

Also how do things like gifted adept or spell specialization work on a spell like monster summoning? I take it monster summon 2 is a totally different spell than monster summoning 1, but would increased level get you a chance of more mobs of the level 1? or are extra Cls wasted on a conjuration spell?


Extra CL only extends duration of summon monster and feats that refer to specific spells would affect only that particular spell (so Spell Specialization for summon monster II won't help you with summon monster V). Also, as far as I can tell, most traits and feats affect spells, not spell-like abilities like Summoner's summon monster ability.

If you wait a bit, there will be Advanced Race Guide available in half a week, which contains new alternate racial traits, including something that replaces half-elven multi-classing bonus.

ARG 42:
Drow Magic: A few half-elves with drow ancestry exhibit
the innate magic of that race. Half-elves with this trait
have drow blood somewhere in their background, and can
cast dancing lights, darkness, and faerie fire each once per
day, using the half-elf ’s character level as the caster level
for these spell-like abilities. This racial trait replaces the
adaptability and multitalented racial traits.

ARG 42:
Water Child: Some half-elves are born of elves
adapted to life on or near the water. These half-elves
gain a +4 racial bonus on Swim checks, can always take
10 while swimming, and may choose Aquan as a bonus
language. This racial trait replaces the adaptability and
multitalented racial traits.

Those are the only others you get.

What I've been wondering is whether half-elves can trade out elven immunities for other elven traits that replace elven immunities.


Any that DON'T also take away the adaptability trait?

The problem w/ Half-Elf racial trait alternatives is they're so few, they're pretty weak with the exception of Ancestral Arms, and nearly every freaking one of them takes away Adaptability. :(
Like...nearly every other race can potentially get 2 or more variant traits if they wish; why's Half-Elf locked in like that?

Dual minded for half-elves is pretty dog gone good, but yeah, it replaces adaptability, it'd be nice if they received more options.


Yeah... Just wait for the ARG. At the same time, you'll cream yourself at the wild caller, and wonder why you'd play any other race as a summoner when the Half-Elf can get 50% more evolution points.
