How my players have decided to handle death..

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

So they have no cleric/druid in the party, and die from stupidity with alarming regularity. Like, killing each other over items or try attaching the head of vecna or something like that. So, what they've decided to do is have the wizard animate dead on them, and play as the zombies/skeletons until they finish rolling up characters/ I find a way to put them in the campaign. Is this clever or lazy?

Both.

And crazy.

Yes

As long as they are having fun with it, it's clever.

Sounds like they're just having some fun and trying something different. If the party is all on board with this, I say go with it and see what happens!

Is everyone having fun, you included? Then carry on, nothing to see here...

Are there any rules against it?

You might have to houserule them retaining their intellects upon becoming undead, but otherwise not that I know of.

Sounds like fun. I've always wanted to do a "everyone dies in the first session, you're all undead now" campaign myself.

Grand Lodge

There are no rules against, however, as mindless undead, they won't gain experience or levels from their adventures. Mindless undead can't learn. The only way you have more powerful zombies or skeletons is by animating more powerful corpses; they don't grow in power.

This is not a fix to the problem. I'd suggest that the next time they die, they learn from their mistakes: someone take one for the team and play a character with healing ability (even a ranger can use a wand of CLW) and quit doing stupid things.

If everyone in the game is having fun, does it matter if there are rules against it? As far as I know, there are no rules against this.

...Yeaaaaah, not gonna happen.

In the same vein, I suggest having your players regroup in hell if they ever suffer a T.P.K

Rule of Fun is always the number one rule in any game.

That's actually rule number two for me, rule number one is occupied by RULE OF FEAR! (yeah, crappy pun, but if I didn't say it I wouldn't be able to get a wink of sleep)
