This year, when you play or GM a PFS scenario, you will receive a wooden coin. You may trade in two of these wooden coins at PFS HQ for a roll on the prize chart. There will be 18 different, special boons for Gen Con this year, including some new races. If you roll a 1-18, you get the special Chronicle sheet corresponding to the number you rolled If you roll a 19-20, that is a crit hit.
If you confirm your crit hit with an 18-20, you get to look into the treasure box and choose one item from inside (that could possibly include signed hardcovers, flip mats, and the like) or you have your choice of any of the 18 boons listed. If you don't confirm your crit hit with an 18-20, then you don't get to look in the treasure box but you do get to choose any one of the 18 Chronicles available.

Two coins per chance for a boon, huh? That will be disappointing for the people who are only signed up for one game at the con. :-(
I will personally Promise all players that only play one game a Hug from me so they will not leave disappointed...;)
Small print-
The Coin will have to be surrendered to me before hugs are rendered.
No inappropriate hugs will be accepted

Understood. But, as last year, where some people tried 9 keys and never got anything because they didn't open the chest once, everyone who trades in two coins is assured of walking away with something.

Just like last year, we will likely have a general boon for playing Pathfinder Society at the show even for just one session. We'll do a badge punch like we did last year.
This is awesome.
As nice as the coin idea is there are a few of us (my little group) that is only doing 1 PFS event.

Fair enough. And if there's a general boon for everyone, as Mark indicated, I don't think people will be too disappointed.
I wonder what the secondary market for coins between people with odd numbers of sessions will be like ;-)

That was something i was wondering as well.
will you be writing our # on the coin? or can we trade/buy coins from people?

We didn't track who got specific coins last year. I know there were a few hard-core players that accumulated as many of the Ruby Pheonix coins as possible over the course of the convention, including asking other players at their tables for theirs, and then turned them in on Sunday for a bunch of keys.
I know at least one player had a lot more than the total he could have gotten for playing every slot.

would it be that hard to track them?
if they are wood a sharpie would seem to do the trick.
We had 200-300 player every slot at GenCon last year. The time it would take to write the numbers on every coin would be ridiculous for the questionable benefit of keeping players from giving or trading their coins to other players.
The coins were also re-used during Gen Con and later sent out to regional conventions across the country in order to run prize support. Writing someone's PFS number on the coin would mean that they would be one-use, which is a pretty big waste of cash when you think about it.

You could always pool your points together too. Of course then if you'd have to fight over who got them. I'd roll off. That way at least one of your "little group" would get to win something.

It's not too late to sign up for more Pathfinder Society events!

It would be nice as it is a slot being used for a PFS event

- Easy to manage.
- Should be quicker at the prize table per person. (and you should be running about 2,000 different prize chances).
- One guaranteed prize for every two games is much higher than the key thing last year.

Yes, we can offer wood coins for people who participate in the GM 101 sessions also!

That is awesome guys!! I really do love PFS and Paizo for the fact that they are willing to listen to their fans. Cannot wait for my first GenCon ever!!

I was thinking people would need a hug after that.

Well, we definitely have the tables required. Is it just because Gerry didn't ask?

Most likely, if you don't ask, you can't receive :)

I still use my one kept Ruby Phoenix coin as an enlarge marker.
As somebody who used around 20 keys last year and didn't open the chest once, and this is a welcome change.
I was one of the lucky ones last year I guess, I opened up the chest 6 times, I got 4 boons, and gave away 2 prizes I owned.
But I am usually lucky in stuff like this.

Its all good WJ, Gerry does a great job, and the Tampa Venture Officers have been supporting Orlando and Statewide events, on top of the Tampa tasks. I appreciate Joe and Kristie taking time to travel to more than a few events outside Tampa.
I have given them a list of Florida events that historically have Pathfinder Society RPG as a focus.
Boons have only been coming regionally in the past few events. Paizo supports conventions better than other companies do right now. Historically, other companies are a lot harder to ask for support, I recalling having to verify all kinds of things for a simple boon to another outfit.
If I can compliment Mike Brock without sounding like a brown noser, I like the cut of his jib. He takes an interest in the game, and is making great choices. I have no doubt that Mike knows how to help an organizer, and will give me cause to quote cliched compliments in the future.

Don't give Mike a bigger ego than he already has. His office barely fits his giant head as is...
