Advice

Hi I have a half-orc paladin 4 sorc 1 who next level is going to go into dragon disciple. My question is what should I do for armor now. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

For armor, I'd recommend mithral celestial armor, or mithral celestial plate armor. Both are good and have low arcane spell failure chances.

Not that he could likely afford either at level 6.

One solution is to use [I]mage armor[I/] a lot. Another is to use spells like [I]true strike[/] with no somatic component. A third is to eat the arcane spell failure chance. A fourth is to cast long-duration buffs and only then put your armor on; unfortunately there are not so many of these at first level.

I'd probably eat the spell failure at low levels and just consider yourself to be a paladin with cantrips. True strike isn't a bad option. You can pick up or craft the armor yourself later.

You are a 4th level paladin and a 1 level sorcerer. Smite first, cast later (or buff before). Use armor.

A quick glance shows the following level 1 spells without somatic components and therefore unaffected by armor:

Feather Fall
Flare Burst
Hold Portal
Liberating Command
True Strike
Ventriloquism

Of these True Strike and Liberating Command seem the most usefull, but Feather Fall isn't so bad in some oh crap moments (remember, you can cast it on allies or say a falling boulder)

At low levels use Mage Armor and Shield until you can afford mithril armor and/or invest some feats in arcane armor training. Don't forget your bonuses to natural armor and the bonuses from your Smite's.

Hopefully you chose Oath of Vengeance for your Pally. Also, your Paladin spell needs to be Heroic Defiance.

I did take Oath of Vengeance and my paladin spell is Heroic Defiance. Think I will just work with the penalty for now and see about the Mithral armors a little later. Thanks all for the advice. Greatly appreciated.
