I wonder what it would take for Paizo to contract with Bioware for Mass Effect Pathfinder?

Liberty's Edge

Having just finished the game, and knowing already that we have a good base to build from, using Pathfinder, adapting d20 Modern/Future, I'm wondering whether a Mass Effect Pathfinder game would have an appeal and what it would take for Paizo to develop such a campaign setting.

Considering that Paizo is just barely keeping up with the workload generated by regular Pathfinder stuff: unlikely.

Game licensed games almost inevitably suck, because a good deal of what would go into paying for development has to go to paying for the license itself. Staff time is not free.

No. Just no. Bioware works for EA, and the last thing I want to see is EA getting involved in Pathfinder.

This. A thousand times this.

Would I like to see that: Absolutely, but these kind of things usually are best kept to fan conversions.

Have you seen the series of blogs talking about the hard early years of Paizo? All of the pain and heartache came about due to Paizo's dependence on licensed properties. EA/Bioware would have to let Paizo literally write their own license terms for a Pathfinder-Mass Effect game to even have a snowball's chance in Asmodeus's throne room.

Now as Kazarath said, Pathfinder-compatible fan conversions of the Mass Effect universe? Hell yeah, I'd be all over that. "Yeah, my new character is named Blasto. He's a Hanar Evoker in C-Sec."

He'll have to look out for my Batarian Diabolist and his Pyjak familiar.

Rationally I's say Mass Effect would work best done by Green Ronin, using the "Adventure Game Engine(AGE)". They are already using that for a bioware licensed product, and I don't think it would be much of a stretch to get one more license from Bioware.

I'll admit, the first thing I thought, "Wow, Wizards would be OP. I mean, Space Magic can do ANYTHING. The only thing worse would be Bards and their 'artistic integrity.' I mean, Colour Spray working in end-game? Insanity."

There's also this project.

The Firefly-System could also be modded for Mass Effect rather easily.

That said, sure, I'd really like to see an official Mass Effect PnP.

Some ideas:

Krogan Barbarian w. Futuristic Archetype
Turian Ranger w. Sniper Archetype
Asari Sorcerer w. Biotech Archetype

If you make your Pathfinder game into mass effect wont it have a crappy ending?

Thread over.

My complaint is that the Salarian STG prestige class has Profession(switchboard operator) as an entry requirement.

I actually think Paizo doing a Mass Effect RPG could be freaking cool!

In fact, I'd buy it without a second's hesitation.

Agreed. I would totally love to have Sentinel as a class.

Pathfinder's not the best system for it. Sci-fi games usually work better on systems that focus on d10's. Just from my experience.

I would love it, and I've never played Mass Effect (I just love what I've seen of it when my friends play). I think the alien races are all pretty much awesome.

But I agree with the sentiments of the nay-sayers. Too many problems would arise from this.

I'd rather there was a Mass Effect tabletop game and we could just convert it.

I would say just use Star Wars Saga Edition and keep the Mass Effect wiki ready.

with some simple reflavoring I'm pretty sure you could get a really good Mass Effect game out of SAGA.

What is "This?"

But yeah that would be cool.

Bioware works for EA now. You don't license from EA, EA licenes from you.

A White Wolf-esque system with a grid-based tactical combat system would work better for ME since that's what it already basically uses. You know exactly what 3 dots in Throw or 5 dots in Carnage gets you.

And super agree that Paizo is much better off with their own IP than with any license.

Besides that, EA has the worst reputation up and about Wall Street. Electronic Arts' way of doing business makes WotC seem like Mount Celestia. :)
