Magical horseshoes on a non-horse mount?

I completed the Quest for Perfection series, in order, with my Inquisitor of Pharasma. Got the "axebeak as a mount" boon. Chose cavalier class for next level. Can i purchase 'horseshoes of speed' for an axebeak?

Liberty's Edge 5/5

I believe they need to actually have hooves.

The magic item specifies hooves. Unfortunately PFS doesn't allow reskinning them to clawtips of speed or something.

Dark Archive

They'd also need four limbs which could be shod with the shoes... since all four shoes must be worn.

They would have to be hooves. You can not put them on a dog, axebeak, snake, pig, or any other animal that doesn't have hooves.

Pigs have hooves.

I stand corrected then. I've never met a live pig before so was unaware.

Pigs have hooves.

But a pig has cloven hooves. I don't believe you can put horseshoes on them.

LOL. While this is undeniably a fact, I can't imagine that a pig would fit them, as a pig has two cloven hooves on each foot. And they're much smaller than horse hooves. I can imagine a centaur, or even hippogriff wearing them, however.

It got a smile out of me, though.

Horse shoes for cloven hooved critters

Who doesn't want to see a flying pig?

Well there's something new I've learned about today.

So all the tasty pig's feet I have been eating is a lie ! Pickled pigs hooves don't sound nearly as tasty. :(

Dark Archive 4/5

This is yet another argument for my gnomish boar-riding paladin.

Grand Lodge 5/5

While a pig might have hooves, as already pointed out, they are cloven. Despite there being hooves specifically for cloven hooved animals, I still wouldn't think RAI for this magical item would allow for a pig to wear them. They are called Horseshoes of speed, after all, and horses do not have cloven feet, meaning these are probably not cloven shoes.

Yes, and if Michael Brock says so, I suppose the bias towards horses as mounts will stay. :(

Whoa there - could I ask you to spoiler that next time, or give us a warning in the title? Thanks!

Yea, there should be some love for non-horse mounts, horses are pretty passe, any discerning mounted combatant should have a cooler mount. At least it seems pretty clear that horseshoes for pigs and camels exist though.

An axebeak or wolf could wear rings though, right? How about a snake wearing bracers or a belt?

No they can't. This was addressed a month or so ago in FAQ.

Then direct your hopes and wishes toward Ultimate Equipment, as that is the next best chance for something like this to be put out by Paizo. :)

The final answer is no horseshoes for pigs, or can boar-riders rejoice?

When the design team puts pig shoes of speed into the rulesbook, I will be more than happy to make them legal. :-)

If there is pasta in heaven, may there be hope for pig shoes of spider climbing.

How about a pig shoes of flying?

...nah, that'll never happen.

All we need to do is convince them to release a magical item supplement for animal companions and familiars. I'm sure some Pig Shoes of Speed would get in there.

So I guess getting my tiefling witch's little hooves shod is out the question. ;-)

She'll need another pair of legs. "All four shoes must be worn."

Can the design team make them a saddle of speed instead?

My druid has acquired his bag of holding.

Now he needs the anvil, mw blacksmiths tools, THEN he can get the horseshoes of speed...
