Only if it's non-magical, you'd need Make Whole (and a high enough caster level) for magic firearms.

Are there any advantages to this over just doing it yourself with the Gunsmithing feat? Casting the spell would save a day of work, I guess, if you can wait for level 3. (Especially if you have a cleric or druid, who doesn't have to spend anything to have the spell available on a day off.)

The rules for crafting anything non-magical are hell. Taking forever, which most campaigns do not allow. The spell just lets you bypass all the time and hair pulling crafting comes with.


Yeah, it's kind of jacked, the way that magical crafting is no big thing, but at lv 1, mundane crafting is the pinnacle of arts.

I'm talking about this specific line:

If you are a gunslinger, this feat [Gunsmithing] grants the following additional benefit. You can use this feat to repair and restore your initial, battered weapon. It costs 300 gp and 1 day of work to upgrade it to a masterwork firearm of its type.

That seems pretty neat and packaged up to me. Am I missing something about it?


I guess that I should answer the OP though... Yes, since firearms (any, pistol, musket, advanced, etc.) are mundane items, mending can make them fully functional, as advertised. It almost seems that Pathfinder creates rules out of thin air to satisfy 1-on-1 roleplay with a GM. Most classes are based on a "stand alone" principle and have to disregard the possibility, nay, probability, of a group dynamic. Which, is, of course, understandable. I mean, really, how do you base a class, other than stand alone (at least as a base), BEFORE adding group dynamics.?.?.?.?

Anyway, mending takes care of ANY mundane item, no matter the cost, so long as the caster has 10 minutes of "downtime". Of course, the GM can roll a "natural 21" as per rule 0 to make it so that something ALWAYS interrupts, but that is a different discussion altogether.

I would say, at least for a campaign that I'm running, that the mending spell restores an item to is original "fully functional" value. The masterwork property is a special circumstance, possessed by the original firearm of a gunslinger, at least in this instance. The gunsmith feat, at this point is just gravy.
