What happens if leadership is banned but the class you took gives it to you anyway?

Homebrew and House Rules

So my GM said ok to a prestige class I picked after skimming it. The class is Night's Watch Ranger from the game of thrones article in Dragon Magazine, which fits with our game of throne campaign.

It is a five level prestige class Full BaB that is isn't all the great over all, except the capstone at level 5 gives you leadership as a feat.

The GM said we couldn't pick leadership for a feat, but the class is giving it to me. What would happen, and what should happen. Should I get the feat? Should I get something else nice instead?

Have you talked to your GM about this? That seems like a good first step.

...ask your GM!

The best solution is to ask your GM to come up with an alternate class feature or bonus feat to replace leadership.

What did your DM say?

Ask him. "Pick any feat you qualify for instead" is probably best.

If the class isn't that great except for this one capstone the DM is banning anyway...why are you playing the class? Couldn't you be a member of the organization w/o taking levels in the class?

Or just don't take the last level.

What they said.

The GM might allow it as a special feature, but if not, look closely at the PrC and make sure you want it without the Leadership.

The Noble base class, from the Freeport Companion, for example, pretty much lives and breathes by the Leadership feat, and I'd avoid it entirely if that wasn't an option.

Well, it is also that I am going straight ranger, and I don't know if this class would count towards your effective ranger levels for any ranger abilities you are taking. We don't know if that is an counts officially but we decided might homebrew it as such, but that hasn't been decided ether. Could someone clarify that, I'm thinking no. I also have a Dire Wolf Companion "just a normal large wolf". I'm not crazy for the class, but just wanted to see what everyone would say. Since it mixes well with my ranger, but just going straight ranger would be better then this class if I don't get leadership.

Maybe I could ask for a free boon companion or 2?

In Pathfinder Society Play Leadership is among the banned feats and in the case of domains or prestige classes that offer it is typically replaced by the Persuasive feat (which isn't a great feat - +2 to Diplomacy and Intimidate - going up to +4 with 10 Skill Ranks).

In a home campaign I would recommend talking with the DM about thematic alternatives but as a player I'd probably consider other prestige classes that offered something better as a capstone ability.

Nothing can be a "great feat" when compared to the most powerful feat in the game.

Aside from the question, that seems like a very odd feat for a Night's Watch ranger. The whole principle of the Night's Watch is that of being a member of a sworn brotherhood that lives on the edge of nowhere.

What does having a cohort actually MEAN in that context? Some other-class character that's not a member of the Night's Watch isn't going to be allowed to go around on rangings with him, and some other member of the Night's Watch should be loyal to the order, not the PC.
