Armor Training and movement

Rules Questions

Certain fighter archetypes replace Armor Training; some replace all Armor Training and some just replace some Armor Training. So how does that impact the elimination of the medium & heavy armor speed reduction you get at levels 3 & 7? Examples:

Archer - Trick Shot replaces all levels of Armor Training. Does this mean that an Archer always moves slower in medium & heavy armor?

Dragoon - Spinning Lance, Piercing Lance, and Leaping Lance replace Armor Training 2,3, & 4. Does this mean that the Dragoon only gets the speed reduction penalty removed for medium armor, but not heavy armor?

Quote:

Armor Training (ex):

Starting at 3rd level, a fighter learns to be more maneuverable while wearing armor. Whenever he is wearing armor, he reduces the armor check penalty by 1 (to a minimum of 0) and increases the maximum Dexterity bonus allowed by his armor by 1. Every four levels thereafter (7th, 11th, and 15th), these bonuses increase by +1 each time, to a maximum –4 reduction of the armor check penalty and a +4 increase of the maximum Dexterity bonus allowed.

In addition, a fighter can also move at his normal speed while wearing medium armor. At 7th level, a fighter can move at his normal speed while wearing heavy armor.

All of the above are correct. If you're an Archer, you don't have any business fooling around with heavy armor. Same thing with a dragoon, these types have forfeited some or more of the aspects of armor training for more specialised options in combat.

There is nothing stopping you from remaining a straight fighter and loading up on Archery feats.

They could have broken that down a bit more clearly, but I think the intent is as follows:

Armor Training 1: -1 ACP, +1 MDB, and he can move his normal speed in medium armor.
Armor Training 2: An additional -1 ACP, +1 MDB, and he can move his normal speed in heavy armor.
Armor Training 3: An additional -1 ACP, +1 MDB.
Armor Training 4: An additional -1 ACP, +1 MDB.

Hmmm my understanding was that if it replaces the first few time, when you do finally get it, you get the starter version...?

Do you have an example of something that replaces Armor Training 1 or 2, but not 3 or 4?

I don't think there is one, because I looked specifically for an example on the SRD list and there wasn't one.

The thing about Dragoon in specific I'm questioning is that the heavy armor section is in a separate line and preceded by an "in addition," as well as Dragoons getting the ability to ignore mounted AC penalty. If they don't HAVE an AC penalty to ignore, what's the point of the feature?

The entry states every four levels after 3rd (7, 11, 15), then specifies that they get to move normally in medium armor and then at 7th they can do the same in heavy armor.

You would be correct though, if such a thing existed. If you replaced Armor Training 1 and 2, but not 3 and 4 (for some reason), your fighter archetype would essentially grant the bonuses of Armor Training 1 at level 11 and Armor Training 2 at level 15 (the levels when AT 3 and 4 are normally granted).
