Magic item creation

Rules Questions

on our last session there was a question coming up concerning the prize of a magic armor or weapon:

until now I was sure that when you buy a fullplate +1 it will cost 3.500 GP when bought. (1.500 Fullplate and 1.000 for being a +1 armor)
Now our new GM (hello brother ;lol) says that the prize would be 3650 since you have to add the supplementary 150 GP for the armor to be of masterwork quality..

But since the rules state that every magic item need to be of masterwork quality before you can create it this would mean that when you buy a fnished armor +1 the 150 Gp extra would already be included for the magic items prizes given or am I wrong. Can anybody help?

Normally yes, you need to add the masterwork price, or rather, for Weapons and Armor, it has to be masterwork, so +300 or +150. However, Full Plate armor is always already masterowrk, s does not apply to it, and you are rght, it is 2,500 GP, or 1,500 GP for the Masterwork Already Full Plate, and +1,000 GP for the +1 Enhancement bonus.

Where did you find this?

Full Plate is listed on Table: Armor and Shields as costing 1,500 gp.

A masterwork suit of armor costs an extra 150 gp over and above the normal cost for that type of armor.

So the price for Masterwork Full Plate is 1,650 gp.

That makes the price of +1 Full Plate 2,650 gp.

This is backed up by the example of Dragonhide Plate which costs 3,300 gp and is Masterwork Full Plate made out of Dragonhide. Dragonhide armor costs twice as much as masterwork armor of that type. This works out to double the price of normal masterwork full plate. (1,650 * 2 = 3,300)

sorry 1500 (plate) + 1000 (+1 bonus) for beeing a +1 armor.

The question is do you need to pay the supplementary 150 gp for masterwork in addition to the listed 1000 gp for an +1 armor. In my opinion those 150 GP are already included in the prize since you buy a magical item and the core rules state on page 460 under the section prize for magical items: THIS IS THE COST IN GOLD PIECES TO PURCHASE THE ITEM IF IT IS AVAILABLE FOR SALE and it also says under armor on page 461 : ALL MAGIC ARMOR IS ALSO MASTERWORK ARMOR In addition on page 153 under section masterwork armor it says: ALL MAGIC ARMORS AND SHIELDS ARE AUTOMATICALLY CONSIDERED TO BE OF MASTERWORK QUALITY and so for me it sounds that when you buy a finished magic item all supplementary costs in creating the item are included.

Creating Magic Armor: "Armor to be made into magic armor must be masterwork armor, and the masterwork cost is added to the base price to determine final market value."

So you have the price for masterwork armor. In the case of Full Plate, that price is 1,650 gp.

Now, to make it magical, you add a price to that item. For +1 armor that is +1,000 gp.

So you take the price of the item (1,650) and add the price of the enchantment (1,000) and end up with the final price of the item if it's sold in a shop (2,650).

Eh? I don't think this is true. At least I hope not. Kinda lets down the party tank who wants that one extra point of AC from Dex.

The cost for the masterwork items is not included in any item except mithral and adamantine items. You must include the masterwork cost for everything else. +1 full plate costs 1,650gp for the base armor, +1000gp for the +1, for a total of 2650gp.

To create magic armor, a character needs a heat source and some iron, wood, or leatherworking tools. He also needs a supply of materials, the most obvious being the armor or the pieces of the armor to be assembled. Armor to be made into magic armor must be masterwork armor, and the masterwork cost is added to the base price to determine final market value. Additional magic supply costs for the materials are subsumed in the cost for creating the magic armor—half the base price of the item.

If you had to add in the masterwork cost, then the masterwork cost can not be included already. Its a separate expensive that is not accounted for on the tables.

No, it is not. You have to pay the extra 150gp to make masterwork full plate. Just because each suit must be individually fitted does not make full plate masterwork. Everything that is masterwork specifically says it is a masterwork item. The word masterwork does not appear in the Full Plate description. It is not masterwork. IF you need proof, page 18 of the Gamemastery Guide. When generating random magical armor, it gives a table for the base armor, and its cost. Full plate suitable to make a magic item is 1,650gp (1,500 base, 150 masterwork.)
