Long range healing feat?

Rules Questions

In my group we have a character who is playing an oracle and we thought we had seen a feat that allowed you to cast a touch healing spell at a range does this feat exist or are we remembering incorrectly? If it's in 3.5 but not Pathfinder please tell me what book since we use both and one of us thought we might have seen it in a 3.5 book

Silver Crusade

From the Pathfinder Advanced Players Guide:

Quote:

Reach Spell (Metamagic)

Your spells go farther than normal.

Benefit: You can alter a spell with a range of touch, close, or medium to increase its range to a higher range category, using the following order: touch, close, medium, and long. A reach spell uses up a spell slot one level higher than the spell's actual level for each increase in range category. For example, a spell with a range of touch increased to long range uses up a spell slot three levels higher. Spells modified by this feat that require melee touch attacks instead require ranged touch attacks.

Spells that do not have a range of touch, close, or medium do not benefit from this feat.

Just remember that spontaneous casting metamagic spells is a full round action instead of just a standard action. So a cleric/oracle doing this on a spontaneously cast cure instead of a prepared cure won't be able to move in the same round they cast it.

Thankyou very much for the help

Reach Spell. +1 level adjustment metamagic feat. Increases the range of a spell by one level (touch->close, close->medium, medium->long); doesn't affect long-range spells or ones with a fixed range (like "50 feet" instead of "close"). Not sure which book but it's a Pathfinder feat.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

There's also Sacred Bond as a spell.

It's pretty poor healing and only 1/day per target, but Witch's healing hex, when combined with Scar hex, can enable healing an ally from up to a mile away.

Best bet is reach spell, though.

witch + familiar bird can also be useful for delivering touch spells healing or dmg spells

Reach spell was already mentioned.

You might also want to consider the magical lineage trait for the healing spell the oracle is using the most to apply a 1-level reach increase without extra cost :-)

The trick of using a familiar to deliver touch-range spells has already been mentioned; I'd just like to note that that trick works for anyone who takes Eldritch Heritage to get the Arcane Bond feature from the Arcane sorcerer bloodline. I've got a cleric cohort right now who uses her thrush familiar to deliver healing spells that way, and it's very handy.

Though it is something a familiar can do, I would be *very careful* using my familiar for that purpose. As a bad guy, would definitely try to squish that little bastard. And it's going to draw lots of AoOs by moving alone.

Particularly in higher levels enemies will know about familiars and their dangers.

Others have suggested the Magical Lineage Trait and Reach Spell.

I would like to add to that combo:

(From Ultimate Magic)

Spontaneous Metafocus:

You can focus to combine one of your known spells and metamagic feats.

Prerequisites: Cha 13, one metamagic feat, able to spontaneously cast spells.

Benefit: Pick a single spell that you are able to cast spontaneously. When you apply metamagic feats to that spell, you can cast the spell using the normal casting time instead of at the slower casting time.

Special: You can take this feat multiple times. Each time you select this feat, choose a new spell that you can cast spontaneously; the feat applies to that spell.

So, have the Oracle take Magical Lineage as a trait (I would pick either Cure Light Wounds or Cure Moderate Wounds).
Then take Reach Spell and Spontaneous Metafocus (for the same spell that Magical Lineage is for).

Just out of curiousity: Has that full-round action casting time ever really been a problem for anyone? I have never had issues with it, I was always able to solve things with a 5-foot step or to avoid being in a tight spot in the first place.

So I wonder why one would ever burn a feat for spontaneous metafocus...?

I obviously haven't tried it out yet but in my campaign we have a cleric who also doubles as a fighter so in that situation it could be a problem if he needs to cast and back up from a few ppl hes fighting thats all I can think of at least

I don't always play a spontaneous caster, but when I do - I have a mount.
