Sudden diplomancer.

Advice

Grand Lodge

Okay, I am playing Red Hand, and we have lost our face. We have mostly very low charisma dwarves, and I am the only character without penalties to charisma. As such, I have become the default diplomancer. I am a Orc ranger with 11 charisma, and would like to improve my diplomacy without a huge investment. Any suggestions?

The Exchange

I want to make a shirt that says "There's a Feat for that"

Go with the Persuasive feat that adds 2 to Intimidate (which sould already be high for being an orc) and... Diplomacy.

Also, try an Ioun Stone.

Hire somebody.
;P

Disclaimer: I've never played Red Hand. This is just off the top of my head:

What level are you? At mid/high level, a circlet of persuasion will give you +4 to all Cha-based skills.

Skill Focus will always give you +3, and Persuasive (I think it's that one) gives +2.

You could always go another route, though: Go with Bluff or Intimidate. Both of those skills are useful in combat as well (for things like Dazzling Display and the feint maneuver) and for stealth or interrogation. Because they do double duty, both of them are potentially useful for a ranger.

Or you could take Leadership and get a bard cohort.

- Choose persuasive or skill focus

- Increase your ability score
- Items like a headband, ion stone etc.
- Multiclass into a class that gives you bonuses to it (like spy rogue)
- Skill ranks are the most obvious I guess - as a ranger you get enough

We are 7th level, and hirelings are nonexistant. I really do not want to invest a feat, as I am the core melee damage dealer.

What is a diplomancer?

Grand Lodge

It's a term used to describe a someone who excels in social interactions.

Liberty's Edge

If you're going to burn a Feat, make it Cosmopolitan. That'll get you, say, Bluff or Sense Motive and Diplomacy as class skills, and with a few ranks invested, decent ratings in both, as well as a couple of languages.

Well, it's items then :-)

Why not just call it diplomat?

Are there any item that give a boost, without costing too much. Maybe something that boosts a few times per day?

Pathfinder Adventure, Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

I say just get the Intimidating Prowess feat and do things the orc way ;)

Yea, I know... I'm probably not helping.

Most of the time the "face" of a party is also a caster of sort. It is an older gaming term.

Well, depends. Typically skill bonuses (cheaper than ability bonuses) cost bonus*bonus*100. 1/day would by 1/5 of that, 2/day would be 2/5 of that...

What is "cheap"?

Grand Lodge

I've got about 4000gp to spend.

Because a good (and possibly completely mundane) diplomancer blows away the entire charm subschool of enchantment under some rules interpretations with investments in two skills, a solid charisma score, and a circlet of persuasion.

Charisma is literally magic in D&D 3.x/Pathfinder.

Extra trait : something that gives diplomacy as a class skill: will give you a +4 bonus as well as a second trait to play with.

Is diplomacy a class skill? If not then see what other players in the group have Diplocay as class skill. Identify those and see who has the most skill points. At that point they should be the party face. I mean even with -2 Chr bonus if the skill is class skill they are still +1 better than you are with an 11 Chr and not a class skill.

Grand Lodge

If there is a second trait that is worth it, I may consider it. I may also put the weight on my 3 int axebeak, as we are equal in charisma.

Well, there's Reactionary, which grants +2 Initiative, or the +1 to a save traits. Those might be worth it.

Grand Lodge

I already have armor expert, so no reactionary.

Knight's pennon of parley (4500gp)

Parley: The white knight's pennon of parley, when displayed approaching a negotiation, grants the bearer a +4 enhancement bonus on Bluff, Diplomacy, Intimidate, and Sense Motive checks for 1 hour, so long as the bearer does not initiate any hostile action.

A second idea: If anyone has UMD, see if you can get your hands on a wand of

Grand Lodge

I can dig that.

Liberty's Edge

Dump all your ranks at the next level. Get a circlet of persuasion. At next feat pick up skill focus. You could also take a one level dip in rogue or bard(archeologist archetype) to get the favored class bonus.

Most of this is overkill and really filling out your ranks quickly and getting a circlet of persuasion should be more than enough.

how much is a +2 circlet of int? that gives you effective ranks equal to your level in one skill... of course, if you already have ranks in diplomacy and i missed it just ignore my babbling.
