So here's the deal, I have a player who plays a Synthesis summoner and for one reason or another wants to MC as a Barbarian. So from my understanding, synthesis and his eidolon are still separate. So if he rages as a barbarian, the stat boost goes to his natural stats and not the eidolon stats right?

While fused with his eidolon, the synthesist uses the eidolon’s physical ability scores (Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution), but retains his own mental ability scores (Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma). The synthesist gains the eidolon’s hit points as temporary hit points. When these hit points reach 0, the eidolon is sent back to its home plane. The synthesist uses the eidolon’s base attack bonus, and gains the eidolon’s armor and natural armor bonuses and modifiers to ability scores. The synthesist also gains access to the eidolon’s special abilities and the eidolon’s evolutions. The synthesist is still limited to the eidolon’s maximum number of natural attacks. The eidolon has no skills or feats of its own. The eidolon must be at least the same size as the synthesist.
While fused, the synthesist counts as both his original type and as an outsider for any effect related to type, whichever is worse for the synthesist. Spells such as banishment or dismissal work normally on the eidolon, but the synthesist is unaffected. Neither the synthesist nor his eidolon can be targeted separately, as they are fused into one creature. The synthesist and eidolon cannot take separate actions. While fused with his eidolon, the synthesist can use all of his own abilities and gear. In all other cases, this ability functions as the summoner’s normal eidolon ability (for example, the synthesist cannot use his summon monster ability while the eidolon is present).

While in a rage barbarians cannot use any ability which requires concentration. I would take that to mean any ability which might require a concentration check. This would prohibit the casting of spells, use of spell-like abilities and supernatural abilities. I believe this precludes the use of barbarian rage in conjunction with summoning an eidolon.
Thats just my take on it though.

I seem to recal that JJ (I think) posted that while fused you should just think of them as one creature.
If thats true then rage should be A-OK.
Personaly I don't see a problem with it.
Yes Synth are really good, but from what I have seen in real games it's not that bad, and frankly Vanilla Summoners (or god forbid Master summoners) are MUCH harder to deal with.

I agree that an already-raging synthbarian would be unable to summon his eidolon. However, if the eidolon is summoned first, and the character begins raging after, then there should be no issue. Further, as the character is using the eidolon's physical ability scores when the rage begins, these are the scores that are increased; when fused, effects cannot target either the synthesist or the eidolon separately.

I would rule that the synthesist does not gain the benefits of raging when in eidolon form. The rage would add to the stats of the summoner, not the eidolon. In this case, he still can use his ability to rage, but to no benefit.
They don't have separate stats when they are merged. They become one creature with one set of stats. They are not one creature with two sets of stats.

My apologies, I do not know what AFAIK means.
Summoning the eidolon is a spell-like ability and thus requires concentration.(Explained under the Summon Monster 1 Spell-like ability that the summoners gain as a class feature. This is the power they use to summon their eidolon. It says so.) Additionally, under the Fused Eidolon ability in Ultimate Magic it states the ability is otherwise the same as the eidolon ability from Advanced Players.
It sounds to me as if activating the rage ability even after fusing the eidolon would only result in the immediate dismissal of the eidolon due to lack of concentration.
Again, that is just my take on it though.
