What would pathfinder languages sound like?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

As the title says, what do you think languages like dwarven, gnomish, orcish, giant, infernal, abyssal, aquan, etc would sound like?

have fun.

This really makes me want to create written and spoken actual languages, but as that's far too much work (and really sort of impractical) I'll give a few general impressions.

Dwarven - Scandinavian/Germanic/Icelandic. Maybe similar to Skald, the language of the Ulfen probably.

Gnomish - a clipped, stacatto dialect of Elvish or Sylvan, with a lot of long words.

Orcish - guttural and harsh. Klingon-like?

Giant - almost elemental, and deep. Fee Fi Fo Fum.

Infernal/Abyssal - there actually is a lot of occult stuff you can reference here, but it's more fun to just take clips from the Exorcist and slow them down a bit.

Aquaan - Pinocchio underwater.

common - Esperanto
Infernal - Latin, but spoken softly with a hint of malice.
Orcish - in my head, I think it would sound like the Navajo language

Abyssal should sound like a recording played backward --

!kcab nurT !kcab nurT !kcab nurT !kcab nurT
.t'nsi emit tub, elbisrever si cisum ehT

Celestial - Mondoshawan (or whatever the hell Leeloo speaks in The Fifth Element).

The Exchange

I have always thought that Orcish sounded like German, Halfling sounded French, and that Elvish sounded kind of Oriental. Unimaginable, right?

In our game, as we have a Swedish player, Elvish is Swedish.

My character speaks Ignan, which I usually describe as "like the roaring and popping of a hearthfire".

Aquan is gargling. If you don't have a drink, you can't speak Aquan.

I give you

Draconic as spoken by a Kobold

You could just cut up all of the names and place names presumed to be from each language into individual phonemes, spam that all over a few paragraphs and do you best to read it out loud.

Based on a wide range of fantasy films I've seen, they would all sound an awful lot like English, or possibly like Italian in a low-budget game.

Well if we base it off of where the myths of the different races come from.

Humans speak lots of different languages.
Common is Latin from the look of the monster names.
Dwarves speak some sort of Scandinavian language.
Elves also come from Germanic folklore. Maybe instead go with Finish like Tolkien.
Gnomes speak Swiss German (Which if you know German is really its own language).
Halflings speak Welsh I suppose.
Goblins are found all over Europe so I dunno.
Orcs don't come from RL myth but seem to be based off something like Mongols or Huns.
Angelic and Demonic languages could be anything from Hebrew to Persian.
