Changing Alignment

Sovereign Court 2/5

Hi

Been playing a True Neutral char for a while now, but been playing her as 'mostly' Lawful, and always Good.

Can I change alignment to LG and get it signed off? This is NOT a Barbarian/Monk multiclass thing, but will affect my choice of my new class now I've levelled. (Human Synthesist 2, just made 3rd Lvl).

Is there some way I can spend Prestige Awards to do this, or do I just need a GM to sign it off? Still keeping my current Faction (Taldor).

(If it matters was thinking of going Paladin for various reasons).

Just looking for a simple yes or no, possibly some clarification if PA's are involved.

Thanks
Paul H

As far as I know, unless your class features are alignment dependent, there is no actual mechanic in place to govern the change. No PA spent, no quests for repentance, etc.

I would recommend listing it in "Conditions Gained" in your next chronicle and making sure the GM is aware of the shift/signs off on it, just to verify that the change is having no impact on your current class features.

I would let your GM know you are planning to shift to Lawful Good. If, at the end of the session, your GM agrees that your actions were in line with Lawful Good, I would think they would sign off on it. And welcome do the Do-Gooder's alignment!

Hi

Thanks for the input. GM's happy to sign off on my last Chronicle sheet.

Being a Paladin (Hospitaler) of Shelyn works well with the character concept (She's a Taldor Dancer) helped.

Thanks again

Yeah, I was thinking of changing a character alignment, too. I figured I just had to note it on the character sheet, since it doesn't affect any class/religious stuff for this character. I just haven't been playing my barbarian as chaotic as originally intended, so I figure he's more true neutral than chaotic neutral.

Congratulations on actually reading the barbarian's alignment requirements! So many folks around here scoff at the very suggestion that a barbarian could possibly be anything other than a raving lunatic who does whatever random thing happens to enter his mind. Please accept my deepest appreciation, good sir.

He doesn't do any random thing that enters his mind. For starters, he doesn't have much of a mind (dumped the mental stats for higher physical stats). But he has learned the value of "playing along" with the rest of the group instead of just attacking everything in site. Though sometimes, when negotiating with bad guys, he will turn to his companions and whisper, "Can I just kill these guys already?" But the fact that he asks instead of just acting is the reason I'm changing his alignment from CN to N.

Yeah, he's the typical big, dumb, brute. It was my first Pathfinder character, returning to D&D after 20+ years away, so I wanted a character that would be easy to create and play.

My wife is looking at running this kind of character... with ranks in Craft Knitting. just the image of the Big Dumb Sword Brute, sitting down between combats, working on a set of pink baby booties is....

Heh. I tried to find some details to make him a little different than expected, but nothing quite that offbeat.

My barbarian sat down and had a talk with Grandmaster Torch after meeting him in First Steps Part 3 and joining the Shadow Lodge. Torch explained to him the value of diplomacy, so now he has the Shadow Lodge trait that makes diplomacy a class skill, and he has enough ranks that he's frequently the party "face". And after visiting the village of Ravenmoor, he decided to take a rank in Profession (Tax Collector), so that's his day job. He figures he'll be good at intimidating people into paying their taxes, but it's a surprisingly lawful profession for a barbarian.

I'm reminded of one-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Rosey Grier, who became well-known for his hobby of needlepoint:

While background stories and roleplaying are all good, with the PFS campaign, passage of time between scenarios is not tracked or recorded, so there is really no time outside the scenarios to roleplay through the changing of the alignment. And mechanically, as a GM I would only be uneasy about it if you were changing your alignment more than once to qualify for a character or prestige class. Now, that said, if you are changing your alignment to take a class that requires the worship of a deity, in a home game I would require you to get an atonement to prove to your new deity that you will be faithful to it and true to your new alignment. However, I do not think that can be required by your PFS GM when you change alignment, unless there is something in the Core Book I missed. I know if you are already a cleric and change both alignment AND deity, there are things you must do and I would think this could be applied to the same situation, but it would still be a grey area of the rules for whether your GM could require it or not.

for your Tax Collector ....

Early Scandanavian Kings used Bazerks as Tax-Collectors... no body wanted to argue with a madman who is apt to fly into a rage and cut people in HALF over back taxes.

Also, my wife plans to use Craft Knitting for her PC's day job rolls, and is having fun with all the role playing potential here. "Glack doing present for sister's baby shower, got to be done by time we finish killing demon raiders!"

I'd be fine with your wife knitting at the game table if she does it too, and its not just a character thing. After all, she would just be roleplaying her character, lol.

My Andoran barbarian just took the PA to become a Lance Corporal of the Eagle Knights. He's planning to buy a Circlet of Persuasion to help him overcome his fear of speaking in public, which he'll be doing a lot more of now that he has Diplo as a class skill.

Hi

Actually Sian is a Paladin (Hospitaler) of Shelyn now. A normally gentle minded attractive dancer, usually only barely dressed, has an inner strength belying her soft beauty.

Imagine a stage dancer that normally entertains the crowds at poular venues, sometimes part of a dance group on a music video, moonlighting as some strong fighting super heroine? That's Sian.

(Day Job Pole dancer, though she is a Paladin)!

Thanks
Paul H
PS problem is where do I go from here? Hospitaler for all their powers? Or Synthesist for the monstrous powers of that class?
