This spell functions like death ward, except as noted above and it only protects against these attacks from daemons.

Ok what does it protect against exactly?

It's always a good idea to quote the text of the spell that this spell "functions like"...
The subject gains a +4 morale bonus on saves against all death spells and magical death effects. The subject is granted a save to negate such effects even if one is not normally allowed. The subject is immune to energy drain and any negative energy effects, including channeled negative energy.
This spell does not remove negative levels that the subject has already gained, but it does remove the penalties from negative levels for the duration of its effect.
Death ward does not protect against other sorts of attacks, even if those attacks might be lethal.
So the subject is immune to energy drain and any negative energy effects from demons, as well as always getting a saving throw at a +4 morale bonus against death spells and magical death effects used against her by demons.
What's the confusion?

I'm honestly kind of confused because it it's the same level as death ward but restricts it only to daemons. Do they normally have some sort of ability that gets around death ward? Not really sure why this spell exists as it seem the same as death ward but more restrictive and adds a 50 silver cost on top. Is there something I'm missing?
