How many targets when a Single-Instance Cantrip is used as a wand?

Rules Questions

Light is able to create a single instance of an effect when used by a player.

How many instances of the effect are possible when the spell is used by via a wand?
One per charge?
A single instance for the player, independent of his ability to cast it as a cantrip?
A single instance for a player including his ability to cast it as a cantrip?

Each time a wand is used it cast the spell (typically at the lowest caster level needed for the spell.) and uses one charge.

To me it appears as though the wand is the caster, not the person holding it, therefore you would get one light active for per source (wand or cantrip slot)

Dark Archive

I think what TheeGravedigger means is that when you cast Light, any previously cast Light's are dispelled. So when casting from a wand, can you have more than one Light active.

I would say one from the wand and one from the caster.

I'd say the wand acts as 'the caster' for that spell, so you'll get one per wand, and one per caster, like CrackedOzy.

Want to have three effects at a time? Get two wands, and cast one yourself.

Liberty's Edge

Actually wouldn't it be 1 per class also. So if you have the wand and 2 classes that can cast the spell, you could have 3 up.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

When you activate a wand, you're still the caster. Otherwise, you'd never be able to benefit from any wands of personal spells. Therefore, it's one casting of light per person, not per wand. This does mean you can pass a wand around and let everyone use it to get their own casting of Light.
