The stores who participated in "Free" RPG Day paid $120 per unit for the privilege. If they are selling leftovers, let them.

This, exactly. Just as Free Comic Book Day is a money maker for Diamond; Impressions makes a little bit from Free RPG Day as well. Since the kits cost money not every store can or will participate. International participation is also lacking. So long as there is demand for the product and someone (Impressions) is already making a profit from it I don't see any harm in leftovers showing up on eBay.

That being said the best way to combat this is for the various gaming companies to make free PDFs of there RPG Day materials available....which Paizo (and other companies) already do.

So what I hear from the the VCs and such is that trading Boons is allowed!

AWESOME!

Since a Boon is essentially a a Chronicle Sheet, that means we can freely trade those as well! AWESOME! I just found a great way to increase my character level without bothering to play my character!

So seriously, are you guys nuts?

Right, because taking someone's words and applying them to something they weren't talking about at all in order to produce a really bad idea clearly makes them "nuts".

A boon does not give XP or Gold.

A boon does not equate an adventure chronicle.
A boon does equate to a chronicle sheet.
A boon is tradeable.
A boon is not tracked

An adventure chronicle is not tradeable.
An adventure chronicle is tracked.

There is a way to level your character without playing...it's called GMing and dumping your credit on a character you don't like. :P

There's also cheating... just figured I should point that out.

Grand Lodge

yeah... you guys obviously missed the sarcasm on the part of me doing it.

So if a Boon is not tracked but IS tradable... there should be no problem with him selling it if he wants to. Suck it up and deal with it.

You want a Boon to not be sold then make it a Chronicle Sheet.

And just for the record... the line between a Boon and a Chronicle Sheet is VERY fine. Especially since the only way to get either is to play in the game that awards it.

Face it, you make it widely known that Boons are tradable (and if tradable they are available for sale also) then you will have people start selling and trading their Chronicle Sheets.

That is a BAD idea.

PFS is not a tradable card club. Don't screw it up by trying to make it one.

Actually today's Boon post is quite handy for me.

Interestingly the Boon sheet IS a Chronicle Sheet. It specifically says so right on the sheet.

So no way you can claim a Boon is not a Chronicle Sheet.

Allowing the trading of Chronicle Sheets is wrong and needs to be stopped.

sigh.

and the Chronicle sheet for owning a Pathfinder Tales book is a Chronicle. and in order to attach it to a PC you need to own the book.

In order to attach a Scenario Chronicle to a PC you have to play the Scenario (the first time you play it) with that PC.

Anything else is cheating.

Please stop adviseing people to cheat.

One way to get this to stop would be to stop offering boon only chronicle sheets or just eliminate additional races all together. Would probably save Mike some headaches.

The Exchange 5/5 RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16

Krome, your objection seems to be centered on nomenclature. If the racial boons and other rewards handed out at conventions ("Unexpected Inheritance" "Devil-slayer", etc.) were laid out differently from the Chronicle sheets, say in landscape format or something, then you wouldn't have a problem?

For what it seems, there is a term for someone who thinks that [the racial boon sheet] and [the Chronicle that rewards fame and experience] are easily confused: "Krome".

Analogy: some people eat hamburgers. Nobody thinks it's a good idea to eat children. But nobody thinks that it's likely someone will confuse sandwiches with children.

Some people want to trade racial boons. Nobody thinks it's a good idea to trade Chronicle sheets that reward fame and experience. But nobody -- other than yourself -- thinks that it's likely that someone will confuse the two.

Be careful folks. I've already removed one post for uncivil personal attacks. If it continues, I will lock this thread.

The convention give away Chronicle sheets that provide a small boon or a new character created with an alternate race are allowed to be traded. Tales Chronicles and the Holdiay boons are free downloads for everyone. Chronicles from scenarios and modules are not allowed to be traded.

Mike, thanks for the clarification.

I'm assuming that "racial boon" includes all the other boons that we can win at conventions, like "eastern exotic weapon proficiency"?

Yes, convention boons can be given away to other players if you are not going to use them.

:| Totally unecessary there, nosig. I think that it's just the nature of the beast that the company has to be ... <ahem> overly particular about this kind of thing. It was funny, and even *I* had to think about it for just a second. It was fairly obscure. No affront to Chris, but, I didn't think it necessary, but, he's just doing his j-o-b. ... I'm glad that he's there to do it. :)

Brock, however, is making completely obscure remarks ... about a "CFL"? What's that? Is it a new item in Ultimate Equipment?

Oh, and just to keep it on topic ... I'm celebrating my 39th birthday on the 8th at PaizoCon (the trip is my GF's birthday present to me)! If anyone feels the need to not sell boons on eBay, and give them away at the Con instead, I certainly wouldn't mind! You know ... I'm just sayin'.

It happens when you are talking about a completely obscure football team....and I use the term football team very loosely.

Glad to help out. Howie's Humor Function assumes that the number of connections required by the reader is an exponent. HHF: f(x)= Ix^n, where I is the coefficient of inherent funniness and n is the number of connections. Note that f'(x) (how quickly the reader gets the joke) then is nIx^(n-1). Horking coffee, of course, is a condition that lies on the curve f''(x)=n(n-1)Ix^(n-2).

HA! you're the GM. She brings brownies to the judge at a game (or chocolate chip cookies - her witch has profession cook), lord knows what she'd bring for the GM!
