Help me build a Melee warrior with Massive Saves.

Advice

Hi.

I wanna come up with a Melee themed Character who shrugs off magic like it was nothing.

I'm feeling a Dwarf Inquisitor.

Dwarves get
+2 Con, Wis ( the main saves)
+2 vs Magic (plus a feat which bumps it to +4. Can't remember the name if somone can remind me?)

Inquisitor gets-
Stalwart!
Good Fort and Will saves
Judhmnet of Purity

And with a good divine list of spells should buff up well.

Melee is his thing.

Unsure about other feats (2 handimg and Intimidation)
Or Deity/Domaim

Human Barbarian with Superstition kinda knocks the socks off high saves vs magic.

A Dwarven Paladin with high Cha and Steel Soul can have some killer saves, too.

Or is your question how to make a Dwarven Inquisitor with high saves? That's a bit of a different question.

Go with a monk build. You START with good saves on everything and get evasion on top of that.

Paladin Synthesist with a quick dip into Master of Many Styles or your monk archetype of choice that doesn't give away evasion. It's ultimately more valuable then stalwart.

Have you considered Samurai, Order of the Warrior?

You can spend a resolve point to roll x2 for FORT and WILL saves (Resolute), you can use Honor in All Things to get +4 to a save and you can spend a resolve point to remove a fatigued, shaken, or sickened condition if you do fail a save. You can regain a resolve point by defeating a foe with your challenge and when you're high enough level (8th) that you get more resolve than you're likely to need for saves you can spend a point of resolve on Way of the Samurai to take a standard action to focus, giving you the opportunity to roll x3 for a single attack, skill roll or saving throw.

Also, you get heavy armor, a d10 hit die, full BAB progression and a nifty challenge ability that increases your damage plus gives you untyped DR against your challenged foe (perfect for nasty creatures with lots of low damage attacks). Oh yeah and a companion mount that follows the druid companion rules.

Halfling paladin. Save bonuses all over the place.

For some reason I read the title of this thread as "..Melee warrior with massive slaves"
...
Was going to make a completely different post until I realized what it actually said.

LOL

Would make a great baddie, though. Rampaging barbarian warlord with a personal retinue of ogre or cave troll bodyguards chained up with spiked collars. My players would be chomping at the bit to get a piece of that action.

Halfling paladin lancer.

This.

I'm in 6 pbp's now.

On is a Human Barb invul rager going superstition
One is Human Samurai
Elf Magus (good will )
Imp Iron Will Fighter
Human Ranger
Human Cleric.

I'm wanting to put together an Inquisitor. Full build, but I want his saves to be awesome and good at melee. Spells straight away is nice too. (The Magus is my fav so far)

Never done an inquis. Looked like some good synergy with Dwarf (maybe use alt favored bonus for more uses of domain powers.)
20pt buy.

Str 16
Dex 13
Con 14
Int 10
Wis 16
Cha 8
(I think with level bumps go dex 14, str 20 but maybe wiz instead? There are a fair amount of offensive Inquisitor spells)

1- Steel soul
2-
3- Power Attack
4-
5- Furious Focus
6-
7-

Other than that I have no idea yet. Definately 2 hander, probably Warhammer for something different. What domain? Growth for swift large? Animal for Tiger flank buddy? Destruction Domain has the cool destructive smite and Aura of Destruction.
Not sure if offensive casting is worth it or not. Human is very tempting for extra spells. But dwarf with steel soul his pretty high early saves.

I ultimately want a char that can (most of the time) eat an offensive spell and keep on chugging. Should I be considering an archetype? Sin eater gets more healing for self sufficient.

Never played and inquistor before so not sure where to go.

If you're going inquisitor and want saves, the Protection domain will give you +1 to all of them. If you take the Defence sub-domain you'll also be able to give your entire party a +2 deflection bonus for 1 round/level.

Isn' t protection the same bonus as a cloak though?

I figured Hi wis/con scores, best fort/will, purity judgement and steel soul would get it done.

I'd just go for good Will and Fort saves, in my experience Ref really isn't all that important especially if your a class that has access to resist energy. The only Ref problems I run into outside of energy damage are the occasional web and grease spells.

Dark Archive

Yeah, it's the same, but it will increase for every five levels you have. What it will do is free up a cloak slot for a cloak of displacement.

Still not sure about Domain.

It shapes so much about a Divine char. Protection is good but I want a tough guy feel.
Maybe worship Gorum and 2hand a greatsword. Destructive smite is cool. Maybe go with Rage subdomain for RAGE. Sorta a divine berserker (could even take superstition and stack with steel soul and Purity judgement.)

GLory of Old is a Dwarf trait that adds another +1 to saves.

Dark Archive

Actually, if you're making a dwarf I would go for Travel.

Just read Glory of Old. That's aweome.

A 1st level char with a trait and Feat having +5 vs spells, ought to shrug off alot of magic

With the ability scores I listed Fort is +7 and Will is +9 at 1st level.

So traits are final:

Glory of Old. (+1 vs spell saves)
Optimistic Gambler (1d4 rounds persistent morale bonus)

Rage Subdomain- Destructive Smite grants big hits on standard attacks.
12- Superstition Rage power grants +3 morale to saves vs spells at 12, +4 at 16.
(downside says I need to make saves vs friendly spells. While raging. if i drop rage the save bonus will persist for 1d4 rounds but I wont need to save vs friendly spells.)
16- Rage Power ?? Reckless Abandon? By 16 AC matters less so maybe more to hit.?

also, not sure if I should take the spellbreaker archetype.
It gets to roll twice vs mind effecting spells
AND gets save bonuses vs arcane schools BUT trades 6 teamwork feats for it.

Witchunter might be better. ID a spell via spellcraft and get up to +5 AC or save against it. Sounds better.

Dwarf
Traits- Glory of Old
Optimistic Gambler

Inquisitor (Witchunter)

1- Steel Soul
2
3- Shake it Off (Teamwork), Power Attack
4-
5- Skill Focus (Spellcraft)
6- Outflank (Teamwork)
7- Furious Focus
8- RAGE
9- Paired Oppourtinist or Broken Wing Gambit ( not sure of BWG works for allies), Combat Reflexes
10-
11- Improved Critical
12- Lookout (Teamwork), Rage Power- Superstition
13- Critical Focus
14-
15- Sieze The Moment (Teamwork), Sickening or Bleeding Critical
16-

20

With witchhunter this could work well.
At 20:

Racial +5
CON or WIS + Belt or Headband(6) is +5/+6
Base Save +12
Cloak +5
Judgement +5
Is a 32Fort/33Will save

Now IF the dwarf can ID the spell via Spellcraft +5
37/38

If he rages add another +3 for +40/+41 save

Vs average DC for a equal level (30 Caster stat)
9th level spell = 39

Just to mention: ring of evasion is quite a valuable investment, so you don't need the class feature. Especially when you can craft it...:-)

Dotted for notetaking.
