Rogue Talents and Crafting Magic Items

Rules Questions

Liberty's Edge

I tried searching the forums for this, but I couldn't find it.

Do the Rogue talents Minor/Major Magic allow the Rogue to qualify as having a caster level for the purposes of qualifying for Magic Item Creation feats?

My other GM buddies and I are at an impasse regarding the ruling on this.

The Exchange

As I understand it, the answer is No. A rogue who gains a spell-like ability uses it as if he/she had a caster level equal to his/her rogue level. That's not the same as being a "1st-level spellcaster."

This was my interpretation as well. Any other arguments?

No dice.

But they can take Master Craftsman.

Agree. The specific wording of the ability on the PRD is "The caster level of this ability," not "The Rogue's caster level."

Like the others have said, it isn't considered a true Caster Level.

Although, like Cheapy said, a Rogue can take Master Craftsman and then a Item Creation Feat.

The specific reason why not is that you gain the spells as a spell-like abilities, which the FAQ indicates doesn't even let you activate magic items with that spell, let alone craft them.
