I couldn't find anywhere in the rule book where it said exactly how many feats a new character was allotted. It said somewhere "based on their level and class..." but it didn't give the formula. Also, how many hit points do I add each time a character is leveled? Examples would help immensely. Thanks for looking and helping a newbie.

Check the table on page 30 of the Core Rulebook. It shows the number of feats each character gets by levels.
Then the level progression table for each Class shows if and when the character gets any bonus feats from their Class. For example the Fighter's table is on page 56.
Also, Humans gain 1 extra feat at character creation. See page 27.
For hit points refer to the text on page 30 second column under Advancing Your Character, last paragraph. It says to roll for additional hit points.
Actually gaining more hit points depends on the campaign you play in. The GM in a home game may require you to roll for hit points or take a set amount. In the Pathfinder Society campaign you use this formula:
( Class Hit Die / 2 ) + 1
The Class Hit Die for each Class is located just above the paragraph titled "Class Skills" in the entry for each Class.
For example a Fighter is d10 so the formula is: ( 10 / 2 ) + 1 = 6
A Cleric is d8 or: ( 8 / 2 ) + 1 = 5
So it all depends on your GM and the campaign, but all PCs in the campaign should use the same rules to apply hit points.

Dont forget to factor in the Con bonus and the favored class bonus if you choose.

The main thing is to persevere for the first few learning processes. After you play a few games, you'll get the hang of everything and everything generally makes sense once you've learned the basics.
Except avoid the knotty rules debates on the forums until you're ready, because those are just insane.
