Questions for my Tiefling Ninja

Rules Questions

Firstly, is there a ninja/rogue trick anywhere that gives the abundant step ability? If not, how would I go about getting the ability? I of course want this for the Dimensional Dervish feat in Ultimate Combat.

Second, is there a feat/trait/anything that would allow my tiefling's tail to be prehensile?

They have something like it called Ghost Step, it's a Master Trick, though it only makes you incorporeal.

Not that I can recall.

If your GM allows it, you can trade other stuff for a prehensile tail via the alternative race guide.

Dimensional Dervish will not function with ninja. You got no such abilities.

Tieflings have tails? I thought that was a 4e thing.

And 2nd edition too. Annah of Torment had one, IIRC.

Guess they have them in PF too, huh.

But nope. The only PC race with a prehensile tail are the Vanara.

Outside of PFS, you can ask your GM to create your own Tiefling race with the advanced race guide.

Then you still can take the Tiefling feats and dice for a tail.
If i remeber correctly there is one.
Or tkae the feat and ask your GM to allow you the tail.

Its Fiendish Facade and Fiendish legacy i think.

This reminds me of the blue teleport guy from X-Men. :)

All tieflings have horns and tails, but the appearance varies wildly. At least, that's how I understand it.

Hayato, that's Fiendish Heritage, and there's nothing in there for tails. And in any case you have to trade the 1/day darkness ability for it, which is damn useful for a ninja.

Tiefling vary in appearance so wildy that they could resemble just about anything humaniod. The alternate tiefling need not a feat to look different. Read closer.

Ok i was mistaken.
Just thought something like a tail was in there.

Anyway it´s possible to make it up with this feat or the alternative race guide.

The Shadowdancer has a dimension door ability. A few levels in alchemist can give you a tentacle capable of manipulating objects, and nothing say it cannot be like a tail.

What/where is this alternative race guide?

Grand Lodge

Council of Thieves, Bastards of Eberus.

Officially the pathfinder race guide won't be out until april, but for the time being the playtest of it is still available.

As far as tieflings appearances, in the forgotten realms setting if I recall they were subtle differences between themselves and humans, in general it listed them as having 1 trait from their ancestors, whether it was small horns, a tail, glowing or animal like eyes etc...

Of course to me that made a good deal of sense, and actually permitted tieflings to conceal their race when possible, which is in general a good idea when you are a race that has strong evil tendencies. I still had to facepalm at 4e both making tieflings a core race, and making them look like they walked straight out of the 7 hells... So why would any society in their right mind not grab their pitchforks and torches when he sits down at the tavern?

I want to be straight ninja, so no shadowdancer or alchemist. So, short answers to my questions are no and not yet?

Well if you think about it, if you grew up and had seen tieflings your whole life, they probably would not look evil or even strange, because you know thats what those people look like. Might not even associate them with evil if they are just as common as people of another skin color in this world.

exactly. or follow my first suggestion.

Okay, new question: My ninja is primarily a thrower. In what circumstances can I get ranged sneak attack? From what I've read I get the impression I can only get a ranged sneak attack in a surprise round.

Hopeful bump. I'm playing the game with this char in two days, and out of 7 long combats I've only gotten one sneak attack in.

Yes, she did. I'm gad I'm not the only one who played that.

Ranged Sneak Attack is difficult.
Remember, if you didn´t pick the ninja trick for it or you don´t have sniper goggles you can only get it up to 30 feet.

You can get it in:
1. Surprise rounds
2. Sniping, but its only one too
3. Full Attack and vanish as a swift action
4. After level 10 using invisible blade (probably best way)
5. Being invisible or hiding in general.
6. With the help of your teammates. The key to it is in feats.
Combat Expertise - Gang Up - Teamwork Feat - Enfilading Fire.
Teamwork Feat would best be outflank, since it gives you another +2 to hit. First you need to convince best two other people to take those feats.

If someone else is going for ranged combat, you can both take snap shot and improved snap shot, which lets you threaten with ranged weapons. In combination with Gang Up and Enfilading Fire you then get your ranged Sneak Attack on them within 15 feet i think.

It´s very feat heavy though. Combat Refelxes would accomplement that nicely.

The tactic would be in coaxing people to attack you, but stay away from them. While they come to you, you give them a volley with AoO´s with Sneak Attack. On your turn you move further away.

Yeah, still level one and don't expect to get to 10 for quite a long time. Looks like I'm taking vanishing trick at 2nd level. Thanks Hayato, you have been most helpful.

As a side note, anyone who wants to use thrown weapons, invest in chakrams. 1d8 damage and a range of 30ft, and only 1g each.

Then there should be a flurry of chakra(m)s ;)
