Funny Incident - Who run Barter Town?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I was running my game this weekend and the party happened upon some slavers. The slavers were dispatched with little incident, but one of the slavers was left alive. The player who has a character history of being a slave began his interrogation and questioned the slaver as to where he was taking the slaves.

(I had not planned on this.)

As I struggled for an answer, I blurted out "Bartertown". The player got a smirk on his face as he asked "And who run Bartertown?"

I said.........."Master Blaster runs Bartertown."

So now I am getting ready to design a dungeon and a boss. I was thinking a troll Fighter with a gnome caster strapped to his back. This should be fun.

Two men enter one man leaves !

.... ? What class would mad max be?

I didn't think they needed another hero, though.

LOL, good one. I think that will be a VERY fun game when they get to Bartertown....alllll sorts of NPCs to deal with, side missions, shops, etc. Nice unexpected turn of events. :)

Hm... A summoner would technically be one man enters one man leaves even if the summoner rides the eidolon.

And thus new campaign directions are born! And the players will hence forth marvel at your dungeon mastering acumen as you lead them on a Mad Max style adventure. Awesome turn of events, good luck!

I am thinking about master blaster as a gnome sitting on the back of a troll in a baby backpack like caddy.

Since I want this to be an adversary that the adventurers can't stop easily I am thinking Die Hard as a good feat for the troll.

Once this is done I can have fun with spells like enlarge and haste. Anyone else have ideas?

Fire and acid resistance for the troll. If the Gnome is a caster that will be much easier.

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32, 2010 Top 8

Just give the troll vulnerability to sound instead of fire.

Brilliant. Also, once they depose Master Blaster, the party could help establish the new overseer. Thusly gaining some renown, new quest options, and some new enemies.

Be sure to throw in the line "Dyin' time's here!"

Instead of a caster, try alchemist for Master, then Blaster as a Barbarian.

An alchemist can do lots of interesting things and still buff with infusions if you need it.

My first thought was gnome/halfling summoner Master (not a master summoner, however) with huge/large biped eidolon mount as a blaster. With some replacement feature for summoner's summon monster ability.

1. Amazing Mogart like usual most of your posts are in fact solid gold.

3. http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/fighter/archetypes/paizo---fig hter-archetypes/unbreakable is the class that naturally comes to mind when I think of a troll with a gnome sorcerer on his back

Did your PC's understand the origin of the reference?

If not, my advice to you is to claim as much credit for an "original idea" as is possible with them. They'll never know until years later when you will get a late night phone text starting with " Why you sunnuva..."

From the mentioned smirk on player's face I guess that he asked that question deliberately and knowingly.

4.bear trap!

Thanks Lobolusk

A few of the players know the movie.

Aah the days of the bear trap. Yep after the bear trap hammer came into existence the players started getting creative. Bear trap arrows, bear trap chain weapons with reach, bear trap nets, a wand of magic missile-bear trap, a tank like vehicle with auto-resetting bear trap wheels that would roll over people and do multiple bear trap damage as it rolled, the list goes on. The DM eventually made a blanket statement that bear traps simply don't exist in his campaign.

On a side note.....

My players acquired a potion with a label on it that read, "Potion of Ultimate Power Warning: Do not drink this."

They got it identified: The potion contained the spells Permanency and Eagle's Splendor.

So.........the male Monk chugged it..........and made a fortitude save (I set the save to 17)........and passed out...........and woke up as a Woman with a +2 Cha bonus.....

Since the Monk is not a normal player race he/she is somewhat exotic, so I will have a business man approach him/her to see if he/she wants to take part in the oldest profession in the world. If the Monk says yes, funny stuff will happen.

(Messing with players really is half the fun)
