Alternate classes

Rules Questions

So Samurai and Ninjas are alternate classes for Cavaliers and Rogues, respectively, but they don't seem to work like the other archetypes, in that they don't say they replace specific class features. My son wants to play a rogue who becomes a ninja a little later in his career once the local ninja school notices him and invites him to join them. I'm not sure how I would make this work, although I suppose I could just ignore the rule and let him do it for the sake of roleplaying.

This being the rules forum, was there a rules question you needed clarified? I'd love to help, I'm just sort of having trouble finding the point you'd like to discuss. Rules as written, you dont need to give him ninja levels to make him a ninja. Take the rogue talent that gives you a ninja trick, pick up whatever one he feels neatest (probably vanishing trick) and keep goin with rogue levels.

If you want to multiclass rogue and ninja, you're totally outside of raw, and this would be better in the homebrew forum.

All I got without clarification, sorry

You could just swap levels, 1 for 1.

I didn't see the ninja trick rogue talent, sorry. I guess it wasn't that much of a rules question after all. Anyway, thanks.

You can even gain ki powers as a rogue. Your class does not have to say "ninja" to be a ninja. I hate this limitation people put on themselves.

Class names are just meaningless labels. He's a ninja if he says he is, not if his character sheet (which his character has no access to) says he is a Ninja.

Let this be a lesson to never let your son watch Goemon again.
