How to keep my enemies alive

Advice

My problem is that we are trying to figure out a shadowy organization, but whenever we win a fight the Druid in out party kills them all (coop de gras). He don't really need a reason he just needs an excuse. Like he hurt my cats. He hurt me. This is not helped by the fact that our enemies seem to be very willing to kill themselves to avoid interrogation. I am getting very sick of it.

Non-lethal damage, diplomacy (to a certain extent), grapple --> Pin ---> Rope (druid should be able to help with this).

same as above poster, but unless youre tying up the druid, it dosn't help you.

Ah, this problem. I'd suggest talking to the Player and GM. The player you should have a shot at through RP, one would hope. Convince the PC/Player that you need to keep them alive at least so you can interrigate them before executing them. As for the GM side, it depends on the situation. Sometimes having self destructing NPCs is good for the story as long as the GM has plans for other ways to get you the information to advance the story. If its a case of the bad GM fiats, then you'll have to talk to the GM.

In an L5R game I played in we were following a lead that led to an NPC. Before we got there the NPC was murdered by an assassin covering up loose ends, which is fairly exceptible for a story. We track down the assassin, capture him, and bring him back to the castle. The guards take him away and we are ordered to report to the Damiyo. While we're their an assassin kills the assassin. Repeat above two more times until one of the PCs sneaks off before he can be ordered to report, hides out in the dungeon, and jumps assassin number 5 before he can kill the guy. The end result of all of this was we learned that they were covering up an attack on the castle by ronin pirates that we foiled in several games before by being brash PCs. We sat the GM down and discussed this with him afterwards to find out where he was going with the whole thing and after that we had no problems.

Kill the Druid.

Don't give the druid time to coup de grace them? Its not instant - it takes a full round action for each enemy.

Or invest in a method to Speak with Dead. Who cares if they are dead - ask them your questions anyway.

I say be a jerk with the jerk: make a council with the other characters and start suspecting the Druid of being associated to the organization and thus killing the guys to not have them say what they shouldn't.

Once you cast a shadow on him, he'll either set his brain to ON (read: won't pointlessly kill) or put it to OFF definitively (read: you and the others will manually switch him to "dead").

And in the end, after all... maybe he's really associate to the organization without any of you knowing it inside nor outside game.

Liberty's Edge

Killing helpless prisoners is a chaotic evil act which ,over time, can cause the druid's alignment to change. Perhaps your druid should have a prophetic warning/dresm about his actions which can cause him to lose his druidic powers/abilities. Other possibilities include the party being contacted by a member of the shadow organization who is either seeking to arrange a deal/ceasefire or alliance with the party or a repentent or cowardly member of that organization seeking protection from his own fellows subsequent to his desertion from the organization.

Sounds like good advice to me. He's either working for the other side or already brain dead...

Would love to but I'm a wizard and am usually a bit away. As for speak with dead wizards don't get it on their spell list nor do druids. We just hit level 3.

Any in-game reason for the druid killing them? What is the characters alignment?

Have you tried to speak to the druid (RP), and told him reasons to keep the prisoners alive?
Does the druid have extremely low intelligence?

Give us some more info and we can probably provide a better solution.

We are all supposed to be lawful good the gm told us so. The Druid dumped all his mental scores, but wisdom. I have only known the player for a few weeks. He seems to have made it part of his character to be vengeful. One time in a bar some orc's tried to trip me and I jumped it. Druid got very aggressive on my behalf. I managed to calm the situation down. Later when the inevitable bar fight happened and everyone was doing non-letal damage inclding the orc's even though they had battle axes on there backs he attacked them with a knife and almost killed two of them. I managed to stop the bleeding and save them. He also is in the habit of going out at night in dark allays pretending to be drunk with his cats stealthiness So far the DM has not had anyone attack him yet, but the intention is clear.

If the druid is set on his characterization try to remind him that characters can evolve, they don't need to be static the entire game.

EDIT: I posted just after you posted what he is doing and it sounds like his character needs a lot of evolution. Or else someone (hint hint) might tell the guards that there is a dangerous drunk wandering the streets putting citizens in danger. being confronted by normal city guards should give any lawful character a wake-up call.
