Does my familiar go both ways?

Rules Questions

Quick question regarding this class feature.

Share Spells: The wizard may cast a spell with a target of “You” on his familiar (as a touch spell) instead of on himself. A wizard may cast spells on his familiar even if the spells do not normally affect creatures of the familiar's type (magical beast).

Say hypothetically my familiar gains the ability to cast spells (I am fairly certain spell-like-abilities do not work this way though I cannot find the text I am thinking of.) Can the familiar target me in the same way I would target it? Come to think of it, if my familiar does go both ways would it be be able to target my character with spells that have the target of "you" via wands?

it doesnt say that it works backwards, therefore it doesn't work backwards.

Heh. I am so immature, couldn't read this title without assuming innuendo.

That's why it's innuendo. ;)

I think I've seen this discussed before, but can't find it.
{the search function is not the greatest}

IIRC the general opinion was:
No, by RAW.
However, many GM's would allow by house rule or RAI.

Maybe someone else has saved a link to the thread. Or remembers enough of the text for the search function to work better.

Yeah, as written it doesn't work, but I might allow it as GM as it's cool, flavourful, and frankly unlikely to be too unbalancing.

Alright I'll ask my GM thanks for the clarification guys.

If your familiar starts casting spells, it's become a type of creature which is not supported in the rules set. I basically rule that a familiar that becomes a spellcaster is no longer a familiar but an independent character in it's own right.

Or you know a faerie dragon.

I see no reason why there couldn't be a familiar casting spells or, more frequently, using wands. As useful as it would be if your wand jockey familiar could buff you with personal spells I can't find any support in the rules for it. There are many other useful wands for familiars though.

My GM pretty much ruled I could do it with a few exceptions (only one thus far is true strike).
