Right now I am playing a Dwarven Pally of Torag. Fantastic when he is in combat, but after the last session i just realized that he is a bit under equipped to handle anything else, during one of the last fights he spent the entire fight struggling to stay afloat after the wharf he was on disappeared and another bad guy jumped on top of him. Since I was in full plate, swimming was difficult.
Any tips on how to equip him so he doesn't have that problem again would be great.
Thanks

Plate armor of the deep?
Or, there is a necklace that allows you to breathe underwater, I believe. Walk to the land ;-POr skill focus and points in swim.
Or that spell that gives you instant armor to replace you cumbersome one?
But I would need more information on what you are looking for. Is it just about swimming?

this isn't a paladin problem, it's what anybody who wears plate armor has to face...
you don't have to wear plate armor if you don't want, or there's things that make it non-penalizing to Swim.
But this is just one very narrow case... Unless you're always on board ships or on waterfronts or rivers, it just shouldn't be that big a part of your game, and occasionally facing difficult situations you're not prepared for is what makes the game fun.
But the way you introduced the subject made it seem as if there was some bigger, broader problem... What is it? You don't like not having many skill ranks, just like Fighters and Sorcerors?

All you need for the walk to land trick is a good con. 15 con allows you to hold your breath for 30 rounds or 3 minutes. As long as you don't do anything that demands a standard action, it's enough to walk across 900 feet. You just have to do two move actions every round to offset the difficult terrain.
Useless in a fight, but an impressive show of badassitude.| WRoy |

Well, the paladin does suffer from not having Swim as a class skill so he's at an even larger disadvantage with water hazards than a heavily-armored fighter.
Otherwise, I agree with you. Anyone in heavy armor needs to be aware of water hazards and either try to avoid them or buy a way to deal with them.
A potion of touch of the sea costs 50gp and gives you 1 minute of competent swimming... useful in a pinch. If you're going on a sea voyage or something similar, either pick up a long duration method of swimming/breathing underwater or buy backup armor and don't wear the full plate while sailing.

Sorry, I belive that the origninal intent of my post was diluted. Yes, water plays a part but not so much as I found that overall the pally doesn't seem to have much to use if the fight flees away from him. Once he has closed for combat it is no problem and I am in my glory.
However, if an enemy ever tries to run away I am at a serious disadvantage.
I am looking for ways of increasing my ability to move around the board. A cloak of the mount Blant (sp?), or winged boots? I have 22000 gp. and i am stuck in Riddleport for the time being so getting goods is almost impossible.
I guess I am mostly looking at mundane or minor magic items that can help me out. weapons and armour can have up to +2 cost on them total.

Sounds like a longbow, a mount or movement-enabling magic item or class ability (there's a Paladin Archetype that gains wings AFAIK) are what you need, and if you want more out of combat utility maybe check out the Paladin spells in APG and Ult Magic. And just accept that you may not always be well equipped to deal with every situation as well as some other class might be... Not steamrolling every encounter, whether combat or noncombat, allows for a more interesting longterm game after all.

OK, so your main issue is enhancing your mobility in general. One solution that might save you a lot of mucking about with smaller items would be a minor ring of spell storing that your party wizard can load with fly: as a reloadable one-shot it would allow you the occasional fight with high mobility. Permanent items have their advantages, but somehow I like this solution a bit better - not least because you can have fly swapped out for water walk, or gaseous form, or whatever other spell you think will best suit your needs for the next day.

Have a good missile weapon. Always. If you can't get to the fight, your arrows can, and you ca still smite with them.
Boots of striding and springing. Or slippers of spider climbing if the problem is vertical surfaces.
You're a paladin. Get a mount. Ideally a winged one.
Have your friends help you out. There are a lot of movement spells the party asters can cast. A wizard's most damaging blast spell is... Dimension door. (delay till after enemy moves, door next to enemy, fighter full attacks.)

Never even thought of a ring of spell storing. Thanks ladies and gents. Much appreciated and will figure it out from there. I always love getting new ideas from this place.
Yeah, I am not concerned about steamrolling every encounter, i just want to be able to contribute to everyone in some way. I don't mind be less effective in some ways, as everyone has strengths and weaknesses, I just like to minimize my faults.
thanks again.

Two levels of bard will give you a TON of class skills, and take Perform: Dance as your versatile skill. Now you'll make your acrobatics checks with an armor check penalty-free charisma based skill. You can make acrobatics checks in heavy armor because of your dwarf ability to not have your movement reduced. Snag some potions of longstrider if you like, get an hour of +10 speed.

Acrobatics checks will still be penalized by armor even if using Dance to make the roll. The fact you are using a Cha based sub for a Dex based skill doesn't make it a non-dex skill. He'd still take the penalty, unless there's a specific rule saying otherwise. Since his Cha is likely higher then Dex, it's still not a bad idea, however. But, has to have the skill points to make use of it.

Your major problem is quite frankly.... you're a dwarf. You move at base 20 which puts you on the slow lane right off the bat. Boots of striding and springing will help you join the 30 move rate club. That's assuming you have a world where you can buy magic to order as you seem to indicate.
At least however, you're not slowed down by your armor, just your race. A Human in plate has the same problem, but at least he'd have the option for shucking his plate for lighter armor.
