To me, the PRD says clearly that they replace the 4th level and 8th level witch's hex.

Ugh, the feats and traits and skills on the character sheet are quite wrong. Ostromir couldn't take power attack (he doesn't yet have +1 BAB) and birthmark was one of his traits. Sigh. I cut and pasted the format from another character and took a bunch of other stuff too it appears. Oh well. I'll go fix them now.

Grand Lodge

Ok. That's fine. It means we will have either a little less healing to go around or less arcane spell slots as I would have to divide the, for the day during prep. I'll see if there is anything else I can do about that.

For the record this is how the opposite conclusion goes:

Every archetype ability follows a strict formatting.
"At level x..."
What the ability does.
"this ability replaces x class feature"

So- when you get it, what it does, and what you lose.

For example:
Loremaster (Ex) At second level, an archivist may take 20 on knowledge checks once per day, plus once per six levels beyond second. This ability replaces versatile performance.

The last part does not always correspond to the level where an ability kicks in. The only entries I see where you don't have the "At level x..." clause are ones where a 1st level ability is being replaced so it is unnecessary and then the hedge witch where it just causes confusion that they omitted it. I haven't gone through them all by any means so I may have missed others. I might be missing something in the versatility of it, but the 8th level hedge witch ability is particularly lame for something you would wait til 8th level to get. By the time I could choose to take the poison or disease effect from a target onto myself, I could already cast remove disease or neutralize poison as they are 3rd and 4th level witch spells. That assumes you learned the spells and prepped them which may not be the case, and it is useful as a stopgap to help someone live another few rounds in hopes of making a save.

Maybe it was edited recently, but from this description- the very last sentence- it's pretty clear that you get spontaneous healing instead of your 4th level hex.

PRD wrote:
Spontaneous Healing (Su): A hedge witch can channel stored spell energy into healing spells that she did not prepare ahead of time. The witch can “lose” any prepared spell that is not an orison in order to cast any cure spell of the same spell level or lower, even if she doesn't know that cure spell. This replaces the witch's hex gained at 4th level.

If I may be so bold as to offer another solution: it replaces the hex gained at 1st level? That way, you get early access to it, while still paying for it when you get it?

Just a suggestion.

And James Jacobs agrees with you. Someone asked him the same question in his thread a couple of weeks ago. Ah well.

No worries. I'm not looking for a rewrite or anything. I just thought that was the intent.

Think you guys will be set to start up next week?

yup!

Grand Lodge

Sounds good.

Male Human Inquisitor 1

Sure, I'll be ready. Either connection to Falko works for me, Dreaming Warforged. I'd go with both and recognize that Ostromir has reasons to be suspicious of Falko.

I'll have to work on Gareth's connections to other characters, and need to make sure I have everything all cleaned up, but I'm otherwise ready.

Things have gotten kind of crazy over here; so much to do at work before Christmas and then the Frog God wants to push up production on the last three chapters of Tsar to have the illustrations done in a month. And my friend surprised me with a copy of Skyrim, so that's killed my productivity at home. A perfect storm. So it may still be a little while before I can get rolling, guys, sorry.

No worries on my part.

What's Skyrim? (I know, I could just Google it, but it won't have the same quality of information...)

It's the fifth game in the Elder Scrolls video game series- open world fantasy RPGs. It's a Nordic style sandbox game with tons of stuff to do, dragons to kill, wildflowers to pick, etc. Absorbing like a gelatinous cube.

Better for me too. :)

December is the worst month for me with long hours at work and 6-7 day weeks. Though I have to say this year has been a little light what with greece's potential default hanging out there like a shadow over everything.

Waiting is no problem for me. I've starting running an AP in real life, which is taking up a lot of my time, especially since I don't really know the rules.

Waiting is okay with me. I'm a little overwhelmed with life and work, not too mention holiday activities, so I'm good with hanging on until the new year.

I'm not sure how much internet access I'll have during the holidays.

In any case: Happy Holidays to you all!

Male(s) 27 Ducks in a James suit Duck 27/ Expert 5

Happy holidays one and all! No coal in sight, I hope!

Happy Holidays, everyone!

Male(s) 27 Ducks in a James suit Duck 27/ Expert 5

Happy new year!

Grand Lodge

Whoo hoo! Hope it was good for everyone.

Do we want to set a new ready-by-"x"-date clock over here?

Here's to a good 2012, filled with fun & games, and good times.

I'd say the end of the month?

I'll be honest- I'm thinking it over and considering not going forward with the game. My group in RL wanted to go back to Pathfinder and since we haven't had a lot of luck with the adventure paths in the past I want to try my hand at writing the campaign myself. Plus, I run another PF game on the boards as it is- so I'm concerned about running dry on ideas and just getting tired of the system. Increasingly, I've also thought more in terms of running pbp games as an opportunity to do stuff that my normal group wouldn't like as much- Call of Cthulhu, for instance, or Vampire.

But I'm not 100% one way or the other- I don't want to disappoint you guys and I feel bad about going back on our plans but I also don't want to start it up only to flounder along and then cancel it anyways. So I'm going to try and clear the freelance work off my plate, get back into the swing of things after the holidays and see how I feel about it from there.

Thanks for the frank assessment.

Let us know in a few days. No worries.

Grand Lodge

It was great fun to get the chance to play one of your games so thanks for the good times. I had noticed on your campaigns profile that between playing and GMing you keep up an impressively heavy pbp load. Completely understand if you feel like adding another into the mix would stretch things a little too far. Been there.

Btw- it was your impressive attention to detail and the way you embellish scenes visually expanding them from what is written in the Godsmouth Heresy pbp that caught my attention and brought me to the CC one eventually. I'm sure I'll crib some details from your pbp version if I ever run GH online (especially your version of Yrix). So mark me down as a lurking fan whether we continue with this one or not. :)

Hey, I'm a little overwhelmed myself these days, and was thinking of dropping out before we even begin, so I completely understand.

I guess I should drop in and say that I understand if life and other games are too busy to add another commitment right now. I enjoyed our first game and appreciated the chance to play with everyone.

Male(s) 27 Ducks in a James suit Duck 27/ Expert 5

Hey guys. I am officially going to call this one off, unfortunately. TPK'ed my RL party a few weeks ago (so you aren't the only ones!) so I've moved up the timeline on things that I have to write for myself and my interest has strayed a little from the premise we had for this one. You've all been great players and once I've got a good handle on everything I have some more ideas for pbp games to try out and each of you will certainly find a welcome place when I flesh an idea out and decide I'm ready to get it rolling.

No worries. Thanks for the heads up. It was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to more opportunities to play together.

Please note that I am recruiting for the Carrion Hill module.
