So he is not quite a BBEG, just the BBEG for the mini campaign w/in out larger campaign that I am running. However he is a lvl 10 Mind Chemist, who fights with lots of explosive bombs. I don't want to give too much away in case their is a trolling player on the forums. He is evil as can be.
What would be a good body guard for him, for the final confrontation, there will be several much lower level mooks that will serve as more of a distraction, then danger. But I am not thinking I want something to spice up the fight.
The party is a Magician Bard, Sorcerer, Cleric, Barbarian and Monk (assuming none of them dies beforehand) with an archer ranger NPC along for the ride.
Thoughts? The character can be lvl 8-10

I thought about that actually, but since it is not really the BBEG, I decided not to do it, and hamstring the next DM or the one after with having to deal with it. But I did think long and hard about that!!
As far as that fighter idea goes I like it. I am thinking polearm master level 10. human
so we would have
dodge, mobility, combat reflexes, lunge, combat patrol, weapons specialization-spear (or whatever), Iron Will, powerattack, and what else?

If you really want to protect your BBEG you will need trip or something to stop the PCs movement as the Barbarian (esp at 10th) can just run by take one hit and then really mess up your BBEG. Combine that with an archer and your BBEG will go down quickly.
If you want to have some minions around give them Combat Reflexes, Bodyguard, and In Harm's Way. That way they can dive in front of hits for the BBEG. Human Warriors can get that set up by level 3. You can also mix in some of the shield feats which help against archery. If the Barbarian has the Cleave, Great Cleave, Cleaving Finish, Imp Cleaving Finish then I wouldn't recommend using this strategy as any weak monsters near the BBEG will just give the Barbarian more attacks.
Terrain can help protect your BBEG depending on what spells the casters have prepared and how much they utilize buffing. Especially if there is only one path to the BBEG you can protect him better however spells can remove that protection (fly, dimension door, etc).

If you want to give your BBEG alchemist a demonic edge you can give him a bodyguard that's loyal to the demon lord Haagenti. Haagenti is the demon lord of alchemy, transformation, and invention. His followers are alchemists, drow, non-werewolf lycanthropes, and shapechangers. His minions are golems, magical beasts, mutated animals, non-werewolf lycanthropes, oozes and retrievers.
Other ideas:
-alchemical golem
-animate dream (BBEG synthesized one of his hallucinations)
-annis/green hag mentor to BBEG
-manticore he has addicted to his drugs

I'm planning an encounter with an Alchemist BBEG and homebrewed goblin sappers (essentially goblins with different alchemical bombs strapped to them).
The goblins are all suicide bombers drugged and conditioned into service by the Alchemist. Should be interesting :) .
"I don't suppose we could teach them to throw the cursed things?"

you might want to look at the non-standard Bodyguard type - pop something the players aren't going to expect.
I used a crazy combo in a one shot game resently.
BBEG was an Rogue shooter, and he had a Bodyguard that was a Sorcerer with a wand of Vanish. The Sorcerer cast Invisiblity just before the players showed up and then the BBEG got his ending speach ... and went poof - they thought he had teleported until he popped in and shot one of them.... and vanished. Each round on his turn the Rogue would appear shoot and vanish (the Sorcerer had delayed, and was right after the Rogue in Init.). The players knew where the BBEG was, it's just they had a 50% miss chance, and he was getting his Sneak dice each turn.

Thanks all!!
I like the reach fighter, I might couple it with some mooks with the body guard, in harms way and combat reflexs.
On another note the alchemical golem is NASTY! If he had that nearby it would be a guaranteed wipe, but I think I will be using it in an ambush by its lonesome i think (muahahahaha)

i have a suggestion for a memorable bodyguard.
a kuthite advanced human monk 4 (martial artist)/inquisitor 7 with a Kusarigama. combat reflexes, combat patrol, bodyguard, and as many hit points as possible. you also want to maximize kusari gama damage using buffs and consumables infused by the alchemist.
essentially, a large robed figure who kills things with a 2handed chain flurry while pre buffed out the wazoo from reach and dives in Alchy's way to protect the BBEG.
bonus points if you say this bodyguard was created in a lab. if it's a young female (not neccessarily a child, and not the template), even more bonus points.
